Bon feuled

For my first LD, I knew I needed something special.

Carbs, and three beautifully stacked ones with a side of bacon, eggs, and toast.  There were some potatoes in there but they’re filler.

I of course, am talking about Bons.

So ode to the breakfast we eat, and may it be hearty, and perhaps after 2pm…

Groovy Funky Random 5-leafs!

Worked hard from start to now and got pretty much what I expected to get done, done.

Like all my friends here I started with a sketch page.  Mad did I stumble across a subject matter really quickly, but the actual mechanics are proving the most difficult.  What do I offer the player, to want to be a tree…

I have pretty weak programming skills so I knew I should hop on that first and at the end of my night, I have a procedurally generating tree that evolves through 4 different stages in its life ending up with this magnificence!  The boxes on the right are buttons 😀

Among my organized ideas I have; the layout of how I need to handle creating the actual sprites, an idea about where I can take the soundscape, and where to start with turning a tree simulator into an enjoyable experience!

Couple o’ cans of NoS down, and an early rise for a second Bons extravaganza so have ya’ll a good night!  To my bro’s still working, keep up the drive!

Booyall

Fully grown!

Finally got a piece of random work dealt with.

Got it to look something like a tree after a full randomization grow!  Whee!

Not a very pretty tree but so far it works!

So far the tree spawn two resources to collect, Water and Sun.  Using the two you evolve yourself into a grand tree.

Back to work, thought it looked cool!

Peace!

Sock it to me baby!

Is it common that what you come up with in this practice seems like total shit to you?

I just spent the last six hours re-working all the assets in my game  because I still cant figure out a good hunk of code and what I have found is that I am terrible at UI design in general.  If I looked at my game without any prior knowledge I would just be confounded on what to do, and that is beyond the point of the obvious lack of direction.  I tried to do do something about having to make the evolutionary choices of a tree, but I think that was just a wee bit beyond me!

Anyways I am still in it!  Trying to make it into a playable game in the next 24 hrs is my goal.  Oh and sound.

The Curveball Advantage

Hello LD’ers!

This will be my second run through the gamut and boy am I excited!  Taking time off a service industry job to make a game in 48 hours is a HUGE relief, almost makes up for not doing my own game work lately.

But oh boy do we seem to have a good one coming!  I’m unsure of our Spudly companions but I am sure to I may have a slight advantage when working ideas together this weekend, as I seem to have an curveball advantage!!!   Mwahahahhahahah!

I will be stepping out of the house Saturday night to go see Weird Al in concert.  Give up now and I will understand!!  But this isn’t for winning.  We all know its to make some sweet sweet vidya games!

My tools of choice this lovely weekend will most likely be a huge smattering of Flash and some free sound effect/music composition programs.

Good luck fellow game lovers!!

Doesn’t look like much

But thats kinda the point right!  Right?

Well I’ve been working on the programming as hard as I can as Minimalism is not a graphics heavy concept.  And my programming skills are shit.  So may as well get that as far done as possible right?

Anyways, here is what I have been working on so far: ss

Nice right!?  AAA right!?  Lol, well the solid object is the player, you float around trying to collect things as close to your color as possible gaining you extra speed, the more pointed the object the farther away from your color it is.  Far enough and it slows you down!  Well at the moment the color changes work, and the floating around too.  But the real battle is figuring out a system to handle the color value distances.

Enough for now!  Back to eet.  GL HF!

Finished up!

Time to finally step away from this badboy and bask in the grandeur of another seemingly unfinished but deviously educational LD.

I want to thank you all for being such badasses at making games to keep me striving for a better product and giving me a medium to create without hesitation.

This beers for you!

From the sidelines!

So excited to see how this LD plays out! This is my second time taking a break to just watch the action as since my first time trying to do an LD just under a year ago when I decided that doing it every three months was going to be difficult to pull off with work!  So here I am, sitting out the LD after the Minimalism theme(ouch!) hoping that I get to see a fun and engaging theme come storming out of the final voting!

Good luck LD’ers and prepare for some great gaming action!

Super In !

I’m mad down for my third LD!

My last two taught me a lot in 48 hours and I demand nothing less from my next attempt.  With my programming skills still not being all that up to hard coding, I hope just a wee bit that I can create something akin to a more complete game this weekend.   If not whatever: I love this shit!

My programmer friend is coming over Friday night to participate as well so I’ll be pestering him for code help 😀

Enjoy your wed/thurs/friday morning people!  Save your energy for gratuitous gaming making!

See ya’ll Friday night!

So I got a dude who zips around whipping dynamite into the air… Actually just boxes but I got a quick art mockup done and I like what I see.

Enjoy a gif of tossingness:

and the mockup I enjoyed:

Bacon and beer soon time ladies and gents!

I totally don’t blame this guy for whipping dynamite at those fish…

The Mock-up looks crazy!

Explosions!

The art is well underway now that the coding is near completion.  There are lots of bugs still and small things that needed to be added all over the place.  Still is no way to lose this game so its got a happier tone than I would prefer.  Anyway here’s a new gif of some of the new action!

Here’s my Mockup again for reference and to see how much more graphics tuning I need to do: ps – If any of you have tips on how to paint better in Flash please let me know!

Here I go again

Another good weekend thrown to the glow of our monitors my friends.

My friend is just getting his first LD roped up and submitted as well so all in all it was a fantastic weekend of binge junk food eating and sugar swilling fueled bug hunting rage.

For my last post I’ll throw in my brainstorming sheets + mockup sheet!

Fun theme and thanks for letting me participate!

First night creativity

As the artist of a 3 man team and a friends wedding to deal with tomorrow I must sign myself out for the evening but it is not without progress!  After a solid idea storm we settled into a fun design space and things are going well.  Expect to hear from our programmer at one point, whether the words are frustration or self praise I couldn’t tell ya.  Anyways, signing out night 1: enjoy some of my early concepting! (Ships and planets and misc!)

Kashyyyk’s return

Some steps have been taken in our team jam now that I cannot go back on.  Like drawing a giant hairy testi.. planet.  And our game has turned into a terraforming strategy game so I’m excited!  The wookie manning the C# is showing some progress as we can now zoom around and grab planets!   You’d probably want a face mask or some Reactine before you got close to this planet however: HairPlanetPainting

Yup, definitely some fuzz there.  Here’s the sheet I whipped up for organizational needs and some BROGRAMMER assets for him to use while coding:

BROGRAMMERsheet

Peace for now from these Canadians braving Hoth atmospheres for slurpees.

The Smart Party

What great fun to feel the compo deadline go zooming by me!  No stress that my little synth soundtracks will disturb people from the graves!  Boy what a dooming 24hr reminder that is though; i’m used to the 48 burn now so the extra 24 is MADNESS.  These are the hours where the greatest mistakes are made by trying to cram MORE into the title but NAY, stay your hand from spilling new code!  Instead look to making every little part of the whole that much better.  Five percent improvements across 10 things is a good step!

Just witness from BROgrammer art:

to PROgrammer art!

HUMANsheet

Ignore the little assets but you get the picture!  From cold rock to livable surface!

Last shut-eye before the Jam deadline so get some good rest ya’ll.  Peace from our team!

I really like that red ship.

Doneskies!

Well as done-arino as we can get it for a few tired Canadians!

We might even take this baby on for a couple more weeks to turn it into a game!  We shall see!

Thanks for another blast of a weekend LD’ers!  Much love!

Back to twerk

Screen shakes, all the rage am I right?  Not tooting my own horn here or nothing but it only too FOUR hours to get that shake in and mhmm mhmmmm, it is nice and almost not broken.  At least it looks like it works but I know, I can see its taunting failure!  15 hours left to hammer out the rest of the features I need and we’ll be rocking!  Bring it on sucka’s!

Ludum Dare 37

McBeetus: The First Night Celebration

So its not to everyone’s taste, I know its not to mine, but the tradition of sneaking out to refuel our brains on some kind of product from the dark Golden Arches is with me every Jam.  Outbreak and I are both doing the solo jam, the two of us working in the same space again.  Like usual, its time to celebrate getting some hard thinking done and get that grease in us!  Excited to show off what we’ve managed so far: out stream is a little dull with only a view of our working space but we’d love for ya’ll to drop by.  www.twitch.tv/angelbait

In for the sweet sweet 40

Oh boy am I excited to get down and dirty with another Ludum Dare, August was the last time I've had a chance to program and my last Jam was in January as the artist! Wish me luck.

I'll be keeping it simpler than normal with my crash course needs in Unity C#, and probably editing some traditional arts work within Photoshop. I'll figure out what to do about sound on the day...

GLHF homies, looking forward to playing everyone's work.

The hurt

When you get to that point and things are working as you kinda hoped but everything hurts too much to really see that things are working alright. I mean this is working pretty much as well as I hoped at this point!
Gif of things going horribly okay
