Wel I just woke up and had breakfast. I catched the flu the last days, so I wasnt at all sure if i would enter.
but at breakfast I had an idea which feels good. you’re playing some kind of drone which has to find its destination with something like a sonar. I’m not hundred percent sure if it will be just audible ping or some graphical clue as well. It just has to be tricky enough to find the target, which could be moving aswell, ideas pop in by the minute i will note them and see what i can implement in time and considering my health.
Anyways I wish everyone a nice compo, feels good to be back again.
For now I will start coding, to get my drone up and flying hope to be back with some screens soon.
And for the tools I didnt take time to do a proper announcement:
code: javascript+canvas
gfx: gimp, inkscape, pixie?
sfx: sfxr, flstudio
I’m not able to run full power as i’m still sick but ive something playable. spent some time hacking togeter the sound stuff, did some gf and music aswell. need to implement somehting like levels now, include the sound better, and make the game winnable/loosable.
I will maybe enter the jam as I dont feel very ambituos.
The game so far looks like a solid, foundation to maybe build further, with enemies shooting stuff and different kinds of missions.
Hey all,
I’m currently writing a 2d framework in javascript which should handle most of the repetetive stuff, that comes up.
I was wondering what would you regard as the most importantor most helpful feature?
Also I’m kind of obsessed with physics, but there is already a pretty good solution in the form of box2djs. Whats your suggestion? Should I implement my own physics or roll with box2d?
Thanks

I’m in aswell,
gonna use my homebrew javascript html5/canvas library http://github.com/jomoho/jomoho
and probably the usual Setup of Photoshop and FLStudio.
I hope we get an interesting theme.
Have Fun everyone.
Got up and read the theme, over breakfast this song popped up in my head originally it had more of a ballad character but for sake of simplicity it kind of went down the electronic vocoder synth road, enjoy!
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/26937089/LD20-TakeThis.mp3Ah and usually I dont sing, so this kind of the first song I recorded, well it’ Ludumdare, anything is possible.

i have tile rendering done but collisions not completed yet.
the game will be about a device you acquire which give you the ability to make copiew of yourself, so you are not alone, you see cause its dangerous.
you will also be able to record your actions with the device and then move to the next copy to record another action.
A little like multitrack recording everything that you have done gets played back the next time you play and record.
Lets see how far I come i guess making intersting levels willeven be the tougher challenge.
I wasnt shure about entering but after reading the secret phrase yesterday, I woke up this moring with an idea aching to be implemented.
the game is pretty simple you go into a tmple where 3 wise men are waiting to answer your questions and when yousay the right thing you can fill in their role to answer questions yourself, the game will run online of course and so with every game the 3 wisemen hopefully become mroe wise as they have more questions and answers to tap from..
what do you think?
I’m going to use node.js and nodester for the server and html5 canvas for the game interface hope I get everything done in the weekend.
After some hours I have this landscape a pyramid and a skybox, not much gameplay yet. The story is about being the chosen one to enter The Pyramid or something like that not yet really sure about things.
Also I got some Music.
I’m kind of exhausted from the week as I had to finish off another project. It worked well but i guess I’m a little behind on my sleep schedule.
I wish everyone a good compo.
After Lazing around for some time and Preparing a nice meal I finally decided to call this Ludumdare of and play some soul calibour..
But somehow I started to work on the gamethis is the current status I’m quite happy with the overall athmosphere but still no gameplay…
It seems this is going to be a pure mood game..
Spend some more time on sounds and foliage,
Gonna sleep now.
hopefully I’ll be able to add some gameplay tomorow.
I’m thinking of a rather linear sequence of events.
The mood is quite nice, something really different from the stuff I have been doing.
Also the music and sounds play nice together I’m quite happy with that.
good second half everyone
I slept quite long and it took my a while to get out of bed.
after getting up I meditated a little and Ideas kept rushing into my head. I don’t think I will finish on time but I feel really good about this game, so I probably will continue to work on it and just submit what I have to the compo aswell as the jam.
It seems there is a bigger story behind this episode…
Spent the last hours implementing a system so you can pick up eggs for use in the ritual. Gameplay means searching the eggs and placing them at the ritual place for now thats ok.
I’m pretty confident to make this happen for the compo.
The island is pretty big so i wanted to add more stuff like being able to fly to save you time…
Finally everything submitted and played through, it really works..
I’m glad with what I have done but there is still more that I would like to add.
Amazing Ludumdare once again.. hope you enjoyed it.
another shot:
You can play on the web or download for windows.
If you like the music go have it.
Thats all from me for today a really tired.
After sleeping 12 hours and looking at the feedback that I got so far I think its time to write my Postmortem.
If you haven’t played it yet, go check it out . and have a look at the screenshot:
What went Wrong?
1. Lack of Sleep Management
I came from a very busy week finishing of a project on Friday and having to deal with the press, I was in a very rushed state. And also pretty tired and went to bed 30 minutes before the theme was announced. I slept for a long time and when i read the theme I was very demotivated and started to laze around not really knowing what to do. I slept for an hour or so in the afternoon aswell and played some soul calibour.
2. Fiddling around with the details
I spent a ridiculous amount of time adjusting the details of the landscape and the texturing, the trees and such. I think in the end this is what makes the athmosphere unique but i got a little obsessed with it and spend a lot of time on placing audio sources on the shore for example.
Also the textures of the landscape changed alot unitl i was happy with hte result.
3. Lack of Gameplay Instructions
Although I had lots of ideas of how to implement I got caught up in the art and didn’t start coding any real gameplay until sunday it would have been wise to do that earlier as It would have been easier for people to play the game if it would have been clear for them what to do. But then I wasn’t really sure about what to implement. so really it was a lack of clarity.
4. Lack of a Plan
I didin’t have a real plan I just started doing something and the game is what evolved out of a whole bundle of ideas. Even though I’m quite happy with the result a proper plan would have enabled me to really sit down and do some focused progress. instead I walked a more playful path adding stuff here and there. this made the process into a very joyful experience but a proper plan would have enabled me to finish more features in the weekend.
5. Lack of involvement with the community
Although I posted some progress reports, I would have liked to get involved with people a lot more. The Chat is just to fast for my liking and also on the central page the messages kept coming up in quite a rapid rate. It would have been nice to get some playtesting done before submission because that would have made the lack of instructions a lot clearer.
1. Starting with the music
I had noc idea what to do so, I just sat down on the piano and played while recording the midi. After 16 bars I stopped as i felt that I had jsut improvised a great harmonic progression I then took this progression adjusted it here and there and built the track from in about 30 to 45 minutes. Hearing the music I felt very inspired and basicaly built the whole game around it, always going back to it once i felt stuck.
2. Going for the Mood
Reading the theme and that there was a mood category this time, it immediately rang something within me and i set forth to take this as my main goal to built an athmosphere, a space of feeling.
I think that is what makes my game unique and where it really paid of to spend all that time on the art and sound, as people just love the athmosphere.
3. Proper Preparation
I took part in the warmup weekend which further enhanced my knowledge of Unity regarding game related functionality, as I have been using Unity in a non game related context.
also making myself familiar with modelling and texturing, proved to be very valuable. Sticking to the known toolset I never got stuck on anything which made the whole experience much more relaxed and enjoyable. I think Unity really showed its value as a development tool as I would never have been able to code something like that from scratch.
4. Getting involved in the Community
I posted progress reports involving screenshots and got some positive feedback which really boosted my motivation. That was good but It could have been more as indicated above.
5. Strong Visuals
I felt it was really important to have a strong artistic delivery as thats what people recognize first and which makes the game stand out among all the other entries. For me that meant having a well balanced color palette aswell as a general feeling for the forms and textures that make the game quite unique and also coherent.
All in all I’m really happy with the game, although it’s not really finished I have something that I want to keep working on and turn into a proper game. Anyonone would be willing to pay for this?
I got this Idea this morning and been working on implementing the basics in the last hours.:
You have 10 seconds to pitch your indie game to a jury of other developers.
If you use the right word you get points and can continue.
I’m thinking of simple adjective and noun combination like “blocky pixelart”, “big explosions”, “scary monsters”, “nice sprites” etc.
The judges are randomly created from different parts, which give you hitns as to what kind of games they prefer.
I don’t know if I can manage to do all of that in the alotted time as I started without any framework and I’m just rendering text now..
I’m using SDL2, Eclipse and Gimp
Anyway if anyone wants to suggest their favorite words please comment or post on twitter #10SecondsGamePitch

YAY! I worked on my Artwork for hours, I’m pretty happy with it.
Also text rendering and input in SDL works…
now for some sleep and then implementing the game.
Also if anyone has any favorite Noun Adjective combinations to describe games please let me hear!!!
examples would be : precise controls, difficult puzzles, fast action, lush grafics,….
everyone who does gets a mention in the game, so pelase help me
You can also post on twitter #10SecondsGamePitch.
THANKS!
I’ve been working on a dungeon exploration game with random fights and possibly some item hunting in the future that runs on facebook messenger.
Richt now my motivation is down, I also did some work today… So I thought I’d share my progress.

There is a lot more to do like making the fights work, rendering the map and the rooms on the server, collecting items etc.
So I guess I will take it to the jam. probably my only choice anyway, because I have to go through approval to open it up to the public.
If anyone is interested to test, just send me a message and I can invite you as tester
