We are in!

After taking part in the last #7dfps some days ago, we think we are ready for #ld27! We are tired but really happy with our entry: Galaxel, a first person matching shooter where you have to kill enemies by shooting coloured cubes from beneath your feet.

You can play it here (Windows, Mac, Browser versions available). We also have some killer concept art! Check it!

NuevoDocumento 16

Back to #ld27, we will be using #Unity3d. That’s a given for us. Other tools will depend on the scope of our idea, we’ll see when theme is finally revealed!

Until this Friday then! Cheers, everyone!

This epic poster follows me on every social stream :) Tho I don’t say I have anything against it. Its GOREGOUS

[Antarctic Glitch] – First contact!

Well, here we are! After some really tiring brainstorming yesterday evening, we came out with an idea about Parallel Worlds, a Bearded Genius and Evil Institutions! We called our game: “Antarctic Glitch”. It’s going to be something like a brawler with some twists.

We do not want to spoil the story, so we’ll leave you with some art!

Characters

Cast of characters.

We have lots of work to do. But we have been warming up so it’s ok!

Up! And down!

[Antarctic Glitch] Progress

Hi again!

In case you were wondering, we are doing pretty good with our schedule. We have some enemies chasing you, a good amount of the animations already in the game and some cool visual effects.

But wait… What is Antarctic Glitch?

Antarctic Glitch is a game about a bearded doc, evil government agents and parallel worlds.

A bearded doc?

Yeah.

And what about the “10 seconds” theme?

You’ll see!

Be ready for an infinite brawler packed with action, lots of characters and a compelling story!

Cheers!

Jeter, the steampunk doc.

[Antarctic Glitch] Jeter

Well, time is running out! But we are still working on Antarctic Glitch, an infinite brawler about a bearded doc, evil government agents and parallel worlds!

And, hey! This is Jeter, the doc from a steampunk parallel universe!

We are in!

We’d decided to skip this Ludum Dare (busy weekend, one of us turning 30, etc.). But today we had an early meeting, talked a little about how awesome the current theme is (“You only get one”) and took the day off to make a game!

We pitched some ideas, evaluated its scopes and decided on one.

We cannot talk much about it yet, but we’ve made a gif just to tease our entry!

WIP – falling tiles.

So smooth! Looks great!

The skull looks awesome!

faif – post compo version online!

faif – Battling with the odds

faif is our entry for Ludum Dare 28. It features a novel combat system based on… gambling!

INSTRUCTIONS After choosing 5 adjacent tiles you only get one! So play wisely with the odds and kill your enemies before they kill you. * Heart: +1 life * Skull: -1 life * Sword: +1 attack for every skull in the selection.

The concept

faif was a 12 hours concept we decided to make because of… well, Ludum Dare! We love the jam and we really liked the theme, so why not? After finishing and sending an early concept version of the game (no sounds and some single-battling against dumb AI), we started receiving really encouraging feedback. Lots of people seem to love the core mechanics we came up to!

What we’re working on (post compo)

Despite currently working on another game (The Narrow Path), we resolved on making a post compo version of faif. So we started working on a to-do list with some specific goals in mind. This is what we’ve achieved so far:

  • Infinite Battle Mode: fight one opponent after another until you are defeated! Every opponent has different behaviour and intelligence types).
  • New visuals and retrofuturistic aesthetics!

Jam version (up) vs Post-compo version (down). Retrofuturistic turn!

Here you can check some new menus!

We will be improving and uploading new versions of our weird battle game for players to enjoy it, test it and help us flesh it out! In the next days we will add new tiles and special powerups. (Note: Check our post compo version and please use the comment section if you have any suggestion o want to share any feeling about it).

So… are you ready to faif?

Thanks for reading and being so awesome! Cheers everyone!

Just wanted to say that this is an incredibly beautiful usage of orthographic box rotations.
23. Dec 2013 · 22:42 UTC
^ this. The aesthetic is lovely.

Feeling lucky? Just faif!

Faif is all about gambling. Take this spin for example. There is 3/5  chances to get a skull (-1 heart), 1/5 chance to get a heart (+1 heart) and 1/5 chance to get a sword (making +3 damage to your opponent, one for each skull in the selection). So what was the outcome? Victory of course!

1/5 winner spin!

What’s next?

We are currently fleshing out faif, uploading new versions every couple of days here, improving gameplay, balance and general performance. We added a new tile type (gems), a shop (even some “sale” logic into it!) and a couple powerups. We plan to add instant spells (playable during your turn), more tile types (weapons, effect tiles and so), boss battles, story mode…

And we need your help! What features would you like to see in the game? (Please share your thoughts and comments here in this post, at the game entry page or on the post-compo version of faif!)

Scoop!

Next week will be uploading and Android version to Google Play! (iOs version is coming later in the development process).

So Faif!

Cheers and have a great weekend!

[Announcement] Patient 283 – An Impossible Runner Through the Mind of a Serial Killer

One day to go till jam ends. We are tired but happy. This is the third jam working with Fernando Martínez Ruppel (awesome artist and friend of ours). And guess what. Our new game working together is shaping up really good.

“Beneath the surface” was not an easy theme. We thought about making something small, hard but rewarding and crazy difficult (Super Hexagon anyone?). After some initial brainstorming, we’ve decided on a vertical shmup without the shooting, an avoider. Player controls a ship on a layer and when hitting lateral walls, a deeper layer will be uncovered. When uncovered, something bad happens. In order to “cover” this deeper layer again, the player will need to hit the opposite lateral wall. This was the initial prototype we’ve made.

Initial prototype.

So far so good. Thinking about the prototype, one of us remembered Fantastic Voyage (you know, the movie and then a paperback novelization based on the screenplay by Isaac Asimov). We all love sci-fi, so we’ve started thinking about it and Fernando remember something about ”brainbows” (the process by which individual neurons in the brain can be distinguished from neighboring neurons using fluorescent proteins). Brainbows are awesome, so we knew how we want our game to look like.

#gallery-1 { margin: auto; } #gallery-1 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-1 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-1 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */ Brainbows are great. Brainbows are great. Initial concept. Initial concept.

And what about digging deeper on the whole “beneath the surface” theme? We’ve started thinking about serial killers. We’ve read about John George Haigh (The Dissolving Vampire or Acid Bath Murderer), Albert Fish (The Grandfatherly Ghoul), Peter Kurten (The Vampire of Dusseldorf), Henry Landru (Monsieur Bluebeard), Seisaku Nakamura (Hamamatsu Deaf Killer), Nikolai Dzhumagaliev (Metal Fang) and Jeffrey Dahmer (Milwaukee Cannibal) among others. And we’ve decided on creating one.

crimes

Patient 283 is a game in which you control a nanobot to retrieve specific memories from the mind of a serial killer. Because you know. In a not so distant future, memories retrieved by nanobots may be used in federal courts.

Playing and rating games!

We will be playing and rating lots of games today (we are making lists with the ones we find more interesting and we’ll post’em here). Our intention is to melt down our brains with LD’s entries. So yes, something like this…

Moveless Chess!

Moveless Chess is a game about redefining a chess board without moving your pieces… you just “shapeshift” them! Every piece costs Action Points (based on the Chess piece relative value).

We’ve made just one level to show the mechanics, but we’re already polishing the mechanics and reworking some game assets :) We will be working on this prototype until reaching a web and mobile release. So stay tuned!

You can play the game HERE.

Cheers! (We really need to sleep).
