I thought I’d get over the hump this time and actually submit my game but close is only good in horseshoes and hand grenades, or so I’ve heard. Got sick in the final hours and spent it resting instead coding. Oh well, there’s always next time.

Close but no game

Wow…I actually submitted my game
My first game jam where I managed to get past writer’s block and submit, right on!! Not nearly the game I planned as I removed a lot of content in the end but it’s submitted. My goal was just to finish, no matter how bad the outcome. Now that this hurdle has been crossed, next jam I can shoot for more polish.
My target was to create a text adventure where the hero has to save the princess but each room only has two doors so making good decisions is critical. Started with a large idea for the game map with lots of rooms with even more twists and turns. First lesson: don’t think so big with a 72 hour window. In the end, I dropped a lot of content so the game is 1/5th of what I wanted to do but it is indeed finished.
That was really, really fun.

I’m in…we’ll see what happens
LD35 – here we go!
I think this theme is one I can work (I hope!)
Tools I’ll be using:
- Programming in Go(Lang)
- Hosting on Google App Engine (GAE)
- Creating a text adventure about shape shifting
Strapping on for a long weekend, here we go!

I’m In!
Giving it the old college try…once again! LOL!
I’ve yet to complete a game but maybe third time is the charm. ‘One room’ is one of the themes I voted for so maybe that’s good karma. As usual, I’m attempting:
- a text adventure
- write this using new tools from scratch but for the jam since I consider myself a noob until I finish a game
- come up with a new game mechanic
- to work solo again (maybe that’s been the problem all this time)
Well, here goes nothing (hopefully something this time!)!

LD38, here we go...
Text adventure
Writing from scratch (partially) but I'll be the Jam (still a noob since I've not finished a game in LD yet!) using Go(lang), HTML5, CSS3, Javascript
Hoping to finish this time (small goals) :)
See y'all on the other side!

I'm in (5th time is the charm!)
Yet again, I'm in this thing and ready to go!
Just hope to finish a game this time (lol!!)
What happens when your map runs out of power? I'm going to try to make a game that finds out...here we go!
WooHoo!

I'm in for LD41
I'm in...perfect weekend for coding and creating a game. All I know now is it will be map based, written in Go(lang) and hopefully fun to play...
Let's do this!
Progress! I think??
Well, after several LDJAM attempts to submit a game and not getting far, this time I've actually made progress: I finished a short game design document! So even if I don't get it finished today (16 hours to go!) I at least finished writing my idea down. For me, that's progress. Still going to try to build it but this time I know when the clock sounds rather than just shelving the multitude of ideas I had in my head over the weekend, I'll actually have a firm idea I can keep coding on.
Progress!

I'm in
I'm in for LD42! Creating an interactive fiction game this time, can't wait to get started. I got as far as getting my design completed last time but hit writer's block and there it went. This one will be the one I complete, I'm ready to get after it!

Try these on y'all:
- Where are you
- What's nearby
- Mass Production
Here we go!
This is it, I will finish!!
Ludum Dare 57
I'm in!
I've been looking forward to this since October! I missed the last few events so I watched as y'all had all the fun.
My stack will be:
Editor: Nano (via GCP Cloud Shell)
Code: Python
Engine: None
Art/Sound: None, text based
I'm really into logic puzzles these days so I'm attempting to create one based on the theme with some levels and missions included. Also going to try using AI as an assistant with some of the writing, get me started on a blank page then I'll take it from there so some derivative work will be included.
Viva le Ludum Dare!
night one coming to a close
Overall a successful night one. I have a working prototype but I'm still debugging. I might have to switch from Python to JavaScript, we'll see. Having more issues with the right amount of clues to provide for the puzzle. The classic case of too few makes it too hard but too many make it too easy.
Game balancing is an art form to itself.
Coding is hard. Game Dev is harder.
Don't let ANYONE tell you that game dev is easy. Coding can be hard but as usual writing JavaScript (yep, I had to switch from Python to JavaScript) is not the issue. Game balancing and testing for win conditions, for example, at a basic level (cause I'm a basic level game developer) is harder. My game is a simple logic puzzle with check boxes. Mad respect for anyone doing complex game play with 2D or 3D, physics, sound, all that. Anyone doing that, YOU are skilled my friend.
After just completing what I have completed, I managed to have enough left tonight to add a splash screen

Here's my puzzle

Shooting for the Jam tomorrow, if I can think of anything to polish I'll add it in. My intent was to add a few puzzle levels, that may have to come in the Extra comp.
Mad respect for y'all. I've been following Ludum Dare for years, never really got a real game going, judged a few. I work in GIS and data for a living and I've got Python code I've written that moves around 250 million rows of data a week. That's peanuts, not anywhere near how challenging this is.
And I loved every minute of this!!!
This will be my day job when I retire. I've loved my day job, might as well keep it going with something else I love doing. I'm exhausted and it feels great!
One hour to go for the jam...and I've got a bug!
One hour to go and I've got a bug to fix...I think I can make it.... I hope!
In the Jam with 30 seconds to spare
Ambitious start, lol. I made one puzzle with one level with a paragraph of story line. Used AI code assist to get through some bugs but other than it was a LONG weekend.
I did it though, Deep Discoveries Logic Puzzle is out there! Hope everyone had a great LD57 weekend!
