Ludum Dare 50

It's been a while :)

First off, I want to wish everyone the best of luck during the challenge! Keep a calm mind, and a good flow state if you can. All, I know is this weekend is going to go by in the blink of an eye. I'm devoting most of my time each day into this. Been making a bunch of different game mechanics today, to brush up on skills.

I haven't taken part in the Ludum Dare, since I was 16 or maybe 18? I'm now 34, so it's been quite a long time, at almost half my lifetime ago. I've taken part in other games jams, after getting back into game design & development this past Summer. It's pretty rad that this one is number 50 :). It's a momentous occasion. How could I not join in?

A few of the tools I use. Put an asterisk next to the ones that likely get used this weekend.

Construct 3*

GameMaker

Unity 3D

Clip Studio Paint*

Corel Painter(2021/2022)*

Pixel Over*

Pro Motion NG*

Smear FX*

Pixel FX Designer*

Juice FX*

Spriter

Inkscape

And, with that it's already time to begin.

I hope everyone here has a fantastic weekend :)

Peace

P.S. - Decided to attach a little photo of my "Creation Station". Below is my sanctuary.!

Interesting Theme!

But... What the heck am I going to do with that? XD

Time to grab some rest and brainstorm... I don't even remotely know where to begin with this one. I'm really interested to see what others come up with, and how they interpret this idea into a video game.

Mature Content Allowed?

I didn't see this in the rules. But, what is the limits for mature content? Cursing, alcohol use, blood, gore, etc? I couldn't find it in the rules, and I get a 404 for https://ludumdare.com/rules/

Is anything Adult/Mature a big no no, or is there some limits to the area you can go?

Trippin' Teddy Progress

Trippin' Teddy 1.png

Quick Screenshot of what I've got so far. About 6-7 hours dedicated to it(after coming up with ideas). Trying for another few hours tonight. It's going to be a Jam upload, but I'm trying to stick to the theme. Teddy is trying to delay the inevitable return to "Reality".

No idea how much I'll be able to complete. I'd like to have quite a few interesting "things", Teddy can pick up along the way to extend the "Party Meter", and cause psychedelic/warped visuals. We'll see how the next couple days go. Learned a lot today, and have been able to setup some systems of doing different types of work in chunks to save time.

Took an hour just to setup the tilemap, as my tile assets are all single tile images. And, it took a lot of searching & trial and error to find a suitable piece of software that makes combining a bunch of tiles into one tileset for each tilemap. Wish I had thought to figure that out yesterday, or the day before XD

Either way, it's sure to be a fun experience, no matter what the outcome is. Always something to learn during jam events, which will support the game design/development journey.

Anime, and Sleep... Now That Shuriken Finally Works!

Trippin' Teddy 2.png

I know it's time to sleep, when it takes me an hour to animate a simple spinning Shuriken. Then have a single enemy play a throwing animation, and fire it at the proper point of the player XD. Something that should take me 5-10 minutes at most.

Time for some anime and pass the fu** out, as I melt :smirk:.

Rest easy fellow devs :relaxed::v:. Tomorrow is another day :sunny:

Taking Longer Than Anticipated

This is taking longer than anticipated. I'm not as adept at game development as I used to be way back when, but working on it. This jam is definitely helping me learn ways to implement different things. I've got visual effects added. Along with most of the Enemy AI, Animations, etc.

Tomorrow, I've got Level Design, Audio Design, UI Design(if there is time), possibly more visual effects such as particles. Below are some screens of the various visual effects, in a basic debug level.

Tonight, I catch up on sleep. Congrats to everyone who made the 48 hour mark! :)

Trippin' Teddy - Done just on time.

I think I made my Jam submission properly... Check it out here https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/50/trippin-teady

It's been uploaded and playable directly at Itch.io. Was going to upload to GameJolt, but questionable if they would allow the content. And, realized I have family who subscribe to me there, who would be none too pleased to say the least, haha. I just setup my account there before uploading, so it's the only thing under my profile.

It's been a fun weekend! I'm beat! Planning to sleep at least 10 hours tonight XD. Congrats on everyone who made it on time! I'll be playing through as many games as I can over the coming weeks, and providing each one I play a rating ;).

Rest Easy! Love and Peace!
