First Ludum Dare ever, very excited although not sure I’ll get anything done in time xD
Happy game making everyone

Somewhat late to ludum dare, but still early here (8 am) 😀 Let’s do this!
Since I was all excited about the Ludum Dare, my husband joined in and we’re now doing a team project!
Not really much to tell there since we’re both kind of generalists (or noobs, depending on the viewpoint), but Caellon will probably stick more to the programming part and I will do the art stuff.
The idea is not totally fleshed out yet, but the keynote is an arena setting in comic like 3D graphics, simple enough art style and mechanics so we can get this done.
Now to decide how to make full use of that “One Room” theme apart from, well, having one room. 😉
Wanted to do a longer recap after the first day, but… i’m too tired…
Progress could have been better, but doesn’t seem bad so far. A first prototype is done. There’s even a cute little ball that follows me around, although it isn’t able to attack yet. And there’s a startscreen!
Currently my partner is working on the level, fleshing out the design of our arena.
Here’s a screen of our prototype. The build in graphics and textures of UE4 look too damn good o.o
It’s all still placeholder graphics, was practically just a test of how it could look and what can be done.

Maybe I’ll get the recap done tomorrow morning, got some sketches to show and maybe I’ll get a small video done
Schedule for tomorrow:
– Combat
– Finishing our own models (yeah, got something done there too)
– Looking into texture making
“One room, one fighter… and every demon from the desert!” – Caellon while brainstorming over our idea

We’ve been doing a lot of planning yesterday, but since I didn’t get that done in the night, here’s a short summary:
We’re using:
– Unreal Engine 4
– Sculptris and Blender
– Gimp
– Audacity (if we get to the sounds)

The game will practically only be about surviving in an arena, while enemies spawn. Optional would be things like dashing forward or jumping back to avoid getting hit, but we want to keep it simple for now
We’ll be busy enough adding our own models and textures.
What’s done:
– Startscreen
– The base level
– Simple player controls
– part of the enemy ai
– base model of what you will see of the player
Still to do:
– combat system
– enemy spawning
– exactly one animation!
– finish the arm model
– textures
– maybe a hit and get hit sound

Since sunday was practically fully spent in bed and today started with a visit to the doctor for both of us, our game won’t make it. Yay for a good start in the first ludum dare -.- Health issues suck.
Anyway, great to see so many people still working (or submitting). I’m looking forward to playing some cool games.
Keep it up, folks! 😀
