The Rules Regarding Fonts?

Problem:

In a game made for the Ludum Dare Compo, what would the rules be regarding fonts? Because we must make everything in the game ourselves, so would we have to make every font in the game ourselves. Or would we need to use exclusively royalty free fonts. Or would we need to credit the author under a creative commons license?

Example:

Take for example, I had a pixel art platformer where I wanted to display the score in the top right. Because there is no pixel art style font built into windows, I would usually just download a font off Dafont, But for Ludum Dare Compo, I don’t know if I would have to make this font myself, or download a royalty free font or what?

P.S. Could you please provide a list of allowed fonts if possible.

Thank you! @PoV

Make sure you pick a font that all computers have.

Got the main mechanics working.

The player can now change from shape to shape, lowering the vertex count. Screenshots:

*lucky you

Some GUI progress has been made

Of course because I couldn’t think of the music, I just decided to make a GUI:

New Idea, not much time.

I just came up with an idea that means that I am pretty much starting from scratch (as far as code, not graphics). The previous game that I was making was just not sustainable, to for every minute of game-play it would take hours of work! Here is a screenshot from the previous game.Screenshot_10

How do you submit

Noobie question. How do you submit your game once its done. I understand that you put it on  itch.io. But do you have to create a post on the LD website or something???

If you’re making a jam entry click on the icon which says “The jam ends in”. Same for compo.

Thanks guys.

How do I vote?

If I goto someone else’s game, I download and play it. How do I rate it? Where is the option to give a rating?

That’s happening after deadline! You will see small stars at the bottom!

Okay thanks

Could not be happier

I honestly was a little depressed about the game. I thought it was terrible and the idea was unclear. Apparently that is not the case!! The results came in, and I did better than I could have ever imagined. Thank’s to everyone who rated by game, you are amazing!

Final Chance | 10 Minutes

Only ten minutes to go until voting ends. If you would like, you can vote on my game ‘Infinite Vertices’. The game was made in about 18 hours from scratch in C++! That’s right NO UNITY, GAME MAKER or anything like that! COMPLETELY FROM SCRATCH!!!! (I know what a cool kid).  Anyway the game revolves around the mechanic that every time you jump, you loose one vertex. Moving you from one shape to another e.g. a square becomes a triangle. The game is a love story, trying to reach you  love without becoming 2 dimensional and on another plane of existence!

Good luck everybody!

Were in, again!

This might be a little difficult considering we don’t have time to do the entire 72 hours – we have more like 24 hours, so yea.

Software:

  • Visual Studio Code
  • Git Bash
  • NASM (and gcc for compilation)
  • TSC 2.0.1
  • velvet.js  @ https://github.com/VelvetOrg/velvet.js
    • A home-made JavaScript HTML5 Canvas Game Engine
      • Being written during Ludum Dare 37
  • Coffee and a lot of  it

Woah, hold your horses – insane progress

To answer you question, yes, this is the greatest thing I have ever created.Capture5

We're in!

Don't really have a good idea of what we plan on doing. Depending on our idea we will be using: - Unity/Maya/Photoshop/Some sound editor - OpenGL/C++/Maya/Photoshop/Some sound editor - Pure C (yeah I said it!)

My partner in crime is at work for the first day, so let's hope this works well. :worried:
