RAWR

I’ve added transformation into a wolf: http://gfycat.com/MadeupDefensiveBobolink

Getting this to work was way harder than it should have been. I’m making good progress, but I’m also very glad I decided to do the jam instead of the compo. The rest of this should be pretty easy.

This is by far my most liked post this contest. Perhaps my game should have been about PIZZA POWER.

Collectin’ Stuff

Going for both themes here! Check this out:

Any resemblance to BIT.TRIP VOID is entirely coincidental.

Next on the todo list: white dots you have to avoid, and something that returns you to your original size. I think it’s a good time to turn in, and put some solid work in. I’m already feeling a lot better about this than I did with Weredude back in LD 33.

This is really coming together. The player is limited to moving up and down, and must collect black dots coming in from the sides to gain points. Each time a dot is absorbed, the player slightly increases in size. White dots will cause a significant decrease in score. Grey diamonds will shrink the player back down to normal.  The larger the player is, the more points they will gain from black dots– but they suffer greater risk of losing points by colliding with white dots. Whether or not to collect a diamond is thus a careful risk and reward assessment. Players must consider: is it even possible to get through the next obstacle at their current size? If so, do they have the finesse to make it through without colliding with white dots, or would it be better to play it safe and get the diamond?

There is no real fail condition, the goal is simply to get through the level with as high a score as possible. Next up: further level design, music, and maybe sprucing up the background further.

Elevacuum is out!

Collect black dots and avoid white dots! And be wary of those grey diamonds!

Bullets!

Working on a game! GIF uploading doesn’t seem to be working. Let it be known that this post would have contained far, far too many bullets.

Bullet Heaven

BULLETS.

[CLICK TO VIEW ANIMATION, animation takes a second to kick in] This is a work in progress. The final game will contain more bullets.

Insecurity

Everyone’s showing elaborate games with fancy assets and I still have an unplayable mess of standard Unity assets.

Me too, i have NOTHING!!! Had an idea but thrown all away some minutes ago because Unity had some issues with my fast moving objects and so my idea was useless…

Unhealthy

Here’s the concept: Normally your firing rate is low (once per .75 seconds, to be exact). You can use right click to switch to a super-powered form (highlighting the player in green), which shoots at incredible speed! But, of course there’s a catch: bullets fired in super form leach off of your health. This combination of mechanics leads to some interesting strategic decisions.

Next up: enemy waves, game over screen, and non-placeholder sprites.

Fight!

This is starting to shape up pretty well. Still needs art assets, but I’m leaving that for tomorrow.

Nice, is it your first LD? :)

Quick question

How do you post gifs to blog posts? When I post mine they don’t animate, requiring readers to click the image (and that’s assuming I remembered to set the link up right). I’ve seen others post working gifs in posts, how?

You can host them on imgur and put it’s URL on “Insert from URL”

This helped me as well, thank you!

The gif works now! Hooray!

Regular blue form shoots very slowly. Powerful green form shoots really fast but its bullets cast from HP.

Whoa!

Ludum Dare 37

Is this a game?

No

CRYSTAL OF POWER

CONCEPT: A first-person platformer where the contents of the room do not change. Instead, you collect gems that, when touched, change physics:

Once a gem is collected, another one spawns elsewhere in the room… but suddenly every surface is bouncy, or you move really fast, or you jump really high and get stuck to the ceiling, etc.

I may or may not have achieved nothing except for making this gem spin
