LD27

announcement of participation.

Hi. I’m dbro. Though I question my own ability to create a game for LD27, I’ll try every year until (and after) I finish one.

Prepare for a comedy of errors to ensue.

announcement of idea.

I officially have my idea for LD.

You get ten seconds…

…to break as much stuff as possible.

Title is “Break Shit”, assuming profanity is allowed in the titles of LD games.

Shit is totally fine, just watch out for racist slurs and things. No ten seconds “catch the slaves”…I am going to hell….

announcement of (lack of) progress

I have no progress other than a shitty level loader.

Bollocks.

Declaration of Intent

WOO!

TIME TO REDEEM MYSELF!

Language: Lua

Library: LOVE2D

Editor: Vim

Audio: yeah, right

Graphics: Pinta

Level Editor (if needed): Gonna roll my own

Streaming: twitch.tv/segfault__ Probably gonna stream.

OS I’m devving on: Ubuntu with Dwm.

OSes I’m supporting: Windows and Linux first, Mac OS X after the jam ends.

Coding music: a bunch of Warp Records LPs (namely BoC’s Geogaddi, Venetian Snares’s Rossz Csillag Alatt Szuletett and Aphex Twin’s Richard D. James Album) as well as the OSTs from Mega Man 1-3 and 9, Elder Scrolls 3-5, and Journey

Motivation: A constant stream of all the LD streamers I like watching (namely DVcolgan and 0creds)

Progress Update #1 – You Only Get One Dungeon (or YO GOD for short)

Firstly, my programming music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-V7xJ1D8X0 on INFINITE REPEAT.

Secondly, I’ve finished designing the game. It is a one-dungeon RPG. You only get one dungeon (also there’s permadeath)

The state machine implementing is a lot easier than I thought in Lua, considering the lack of OOP principles, in fact it’s easier than in Python! This is because Lua’s variables are global until they are said to be local. The dungeon is always randomly generated, by the way.

Number of Lines: 75, with none of them being game logic. (It’s all state machine setup)
