LD23

We’re in

A few friends and I will be entering the jam tomorrow. This is the first LD for all of us, so wish us luck.

People:
Logan – Code/art/design
Mike – Design/art
Dre – Music

I’ll be coding in C# using either XNA or MOGRE. I’ll also be doing the 3D art if we make a 3D game, and for that I’ll be using Maya 2012, Photoshop, and SAI. If I need to sculpt anything I’ll be using Sculptris.

I’m not sure what the other guys will be using yet.

This will be a good chance for me to push myself outta this pixelling funk I been needing to get out of

Block placement is in

My team hasn’t been posting much, we had a bit of an issue figuring out what to code with so the whole team could actually run the game (Mike is difficult and likes to use linux…). We settled on using XNA regardless, and we’ll port it after the compo to something more portable.

Anyway, i’m two hours into coding i’ve got block placement and rendering in. Now i’ve got to get block mutations working. This shouldn’t be too difficult, just got to write up a 3D CA algorithm. Once that’s in, we just have some UI stuff, content creation, and CA mutation rules to add to the game. Oh, and polish/optimization of the rendering.

Haha, i just realized i have 16FPS! Optimization is really important now.

CA stuff done, moving onto content creation

I’ve got my cellular automata algorithm working pretty well. There’s still some coding left, as the individual rules for the cell mutations can get pretty complex. But I’d say the bulk is done. And given the late start, we’re doing good on time.

Now the rest of the work is in creating those cell/block types, their rules, and the visuals. This is the fun part where we get to beautify and make the game feel complete. Wish us luck!
