LD 42

Cover me, I'm going in

Finally decided to take the plunge and participate in LD42 after a colleague of mine did LD41.

Going to be using Unity and doing the Jam. Even taken a couple of days off the day job to do this :-)

Good luck and have fun, everyone!

Well that could have gone better ... but the game is as done as it will be!

So my first Ludum Dare and I've managed to get something running :-/

Main problem was allowing myself to get distracted by domestic activities in the middle 24 hour period, especially when I ran into a bug that I tried multiple different ways to fix, but in the end resorted to an ugly kludge.

Also, haven't had that much experience with Unity before now (only seriously started playing around with it in the last couple of months), so getting used to its idiosyncrasies also slowed me down somewhat!

Ended up using programmer art, as I couldn't find graphics assets with a consistent art style that I could use. Sound assets are okay, though.

Overall, I enjoyed this. The theme wasn't the one I was hoping for, but I didn't have the classic LD "the theme sucks!" moment.

So, without further ado, my game is here.

Got through them all...

Finished the theme slaughter. Database needs some serious de-duping, and past themes should also be excluded.

Done my picks for the final round

A bit disappointed with the selection (but is it really Ludum Dare without the disappointment?). On the first pass, only had one green selected, but managed to summon up the enthusiasm for a couple of the others. Hopefully I'll get inspiration on the day and everything else will go like clockwork. Must feed the monster that is Ludum Dare!

Okay, I'll stop now... :octagonal_sign:

Bleeurgh...

So the theme sucks IMHO :anguished: but I had an idea for another theme that I can jury-rig to fit this one. Still, it's a bit of a struggle and I'm not sure I'll get finished in time

And of course, Unity has decided to pack up  so now I'm trying to reinstall :shrug_tone1: Ironically, it got stuck in the "failed to load window layout" loop...

Ludum Dare 48

In for #48

Right, calendar cleared; taking a day off work and getting ready for my third jam 😸 looking forward to hating on the theme 😂

Ludum Dare 49

I'm in for 49

This'll be my 4th LD, and looking forward to it.

Getting Unity and VS up-to-date, not going to bother with doing a web build this time since it never seems to work 😾

Ugh

So I've been brainstorming for a couple of hours, and I think I've got something that could meet the theme.

Sigh. Here we go...

GL HF everyone!

Ludum Dare 50

Finished!

Of course, when I say "finished", I mean "finished ... for now". My Trello board has still got plenty on it

Anyway, I'm amazed I managed to get this finished, even for the Extra category. The last three weeks have been full of ups-and-downs (including family issues, illness, technology issues....).

But here it is for you consideration.Banner.PNG

Ludum Dare 51

I'm in for LD51

Here we go again... 😋

The usual toolset for LD51: Unity, Aesprite, lots and lots of coffee. One jam I might try something different, but it is not this jam. 😄

Ludum Dare 52

Done!

Ludum Dare 53

I'm in again

Leave from work booked, ready to go in a little over 3 weeks

Obligatory theme suggestions list: - Mysterious origins - Hopepunk - Fishing-horror (yes, I've been a watching a lot of "Dredge" gameplay videos...)

I'm very proud that I stopped myself from submitting "spam" or "spambot" as a theme suggestion.

As usual, will be using Unity & Aseprite. Will also use Trello again for planning, as not doing this until day 3 last time wasn't particularly useful :grimacing: .

100% slaughtered, bring on the voting

Finished the slaughter, I think I've been a lot harder on the themes than in previous jams. Must be getting cranky in my old age :stuckouttonguewinkingeye:

Theme Slaughter.png

That was TOO close

Finished coding literally seconds before the jam period ended, then spent most of the submission hour begging, pleading, bargaining, cajoling, and finally outright threatening Unity to actual build something.

But it's done, with HTML5 and Windows builds. I'd like to think I learned some things from previous jams, particularly in terms of time management and planning. Still need to work on knowing when I've over-scoped for what's possible in the 72 hours, had to do some rescopong in the last few hours, when I should've done that a lot sooner.

Hoping everyone had fun, now the joy of playing and rating begins  . And if somebody made a Kiki's Delivery Service game, please let me know...

Ludum Dare 55

I'm in again

This will be my tenth LD, the ninth in a row, and the first one using Godot instead of Unity.

Ludum Dare 56

Here we go again

Ready for my eleventh LD (10th in a row). Will be using Godot, Aesprite, Krita and I'll figure something out for sounds.

Good luck and have fun!

Well , bother it

I didn't outright hate the theme, but I struggled to come up with an idea for a fun game that I could put together in 72 hours. Could think of lots of tiny creatures, but nothing that would make (for me) something fun to play.

Finally got a good idea after about 10 hours, spent the next two hours doing design and a couple of early art pieces, decided to go to bed to get a good night's sleep, hitting the code early the next morning.

Of course, next morning arrives and I'm violently sick. Always wondered why it was called "violently sick". Now I know.

Spent all of Sunday (NZT) in bed, hoping it'd just be a 24 hour bug and I'd recover to do something in the remaining time. So of course, Monday rolls around -- a day I'd taken off work specifically to do LD56 -- and I'm still feeling a bit dodgy, but this time with a migraine thrown into the mix.

All this to say, I couldn't even look at a computer until a few hours before the jam deadline. I'm hoping I'll be able to put something in for the Extra category, but I've got to go back to work tomorrow.

I hope everyone else had fun over the weekend. Even though I can't vote on your games, I look forward to playing through some and offering some constructive feedback.

Still going

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get something together for the jam -- a combination of not having the leave to take time off work, family commitments and general intrusions into my time.

I'm still working on something that I'm intending to submit in the Extra category, but in the interim, here's a clue on the subject matter:

Finally got something together

Took a lot longer than I anticipated -- too much of life getting in the way -- but here's a 4-level build of my submarine game. It's only in the Extra category, so I'm not going to plead for ratings, but I'd appreciate any feedback. Screenshot 2025-04-22 002829.png

Ludum Dare 59

I'm in too!

In for the 13th time!

Toolset: * Godot 4.6 * Blender (if I do anything 3D) * Aseprite for pixel art * GIMP for any image manipulation

Any audio will probably be from online sources, since I've never learned to use the tools (I know, my bad!).
