LD 40

First Ludum Dare!

I just submitted my first (of hopefully more to come) Ludum Dare game for LD40!

FinancialBurdenTitle.jpg

My game is Financial Burden, a 2D exploration and collection game where your wealth literally weighs you down!

Made with Unity 2D (engine), C# (code/scripts), and GIMP 2 (sprites/graphics), the game definitely isn't going to be the best looking one out there (I average negative artistic ability), but hopefully it will offer some of you a little enjoyment and invoke some form of nostalgia for games like Chip's Challenge (a fairly obvious inspiration).

As my first Compo entry, I streamed the entirety of my progress on Twitch, hosted my source and release on Github, and had a blast in the process! Hopefully everyone else had as much (or more) fun with their projects as I did!

LD 43

Second Compo, a year later

I'm in for LD43 Compo after being unable to participate in the previous 2 LDs this year due to scheduling conflicts. That means my previous (and also first-ever) LD was last December for LD40.

Plan this time around is largely similar in terms of tools I'm planning to use: - Unity (likely Unity2D) and VisualStudio for engine/code - GIMP (for spritework) - Git/Github (for version control and distribution)

My goal for this LD is to at least get a ranking, as last year I fell a bit short of the needed reviews on my entry Financial Burden, but the experience was still worth the effort!

Here's to another Compo and another weekend of code!

"Blood, Sweat, and Taxes" - FalseIncarnate's LD43 Compo Entry

Well, it came down to the wire, but I managed to complete and submit my second-ever LD Compo entry!

For your playing pleasure, may I present:

Blood, Sweat, and Taxes

Farming, with a twist!

BST1.jpg

Take on the role of a farmer doing their best to earn a living, growing crops, raising animals, collecting resources, crafting products, buying and selling to the local markets, paying taxes, and making sacrifices to the spirits.

Wait, what?

BST2.jpg

In "Blood, Sweat, and Taxes", it takes more than some elbow grease to run a successful farm. Sometimes, you gotta sacrifice to the native spirits that meddle with your farm to appease them and earn their favors. Ignore them too long and they'll ruin your efficiency and throw tantrums that wreck their shrines, but make sacrifices and upgrade the shrines to gain their boons with better farm efficiency and larger harvests!

Beware the Taxman!

The Taxman is a government official with one goal: to take your hard-earned money or seize the land your farm is on for the government! Pay his taxes regularly, or he'll shut down your farm permanently and kick you out. Stay on top of his increasing tax demands long enough and gain the coveted Tax Exempt status to ensure your farm remains in your hands forever!

Blood Sweat and Taxes, Web Edition!

I just released a Web (HTML5) port of my LD43 submission "Blood Sweat and Taxes", check it out here: https://falseincarnate.itch.io/blood-sweat-and-taxes

Additionally, I want to make a special shout-out to all those noble players who take the time to report bugs and issues they encounter. Your selfless acts are definitely appreciated, and directly enabled me to release a bug-fixed version of my game that resolved some menu display issues and a potential crash! Sacrifices must be made, but you guys go above and beyond!

LD 44

Round 3: I'm in for LD44

Looking forward to participating in my third Ludum Dare Compo this weekend.

As with my last two entries, I'll most likely be using the following: - Engine/Code: Unity (most likely 2D) and C# - Graphics: GIMP - Version control: GitHub - Distribution: GitHub (download releases) & Itch.io (web version release)

My goal for this event is to get my first ranked game (previous attempts fell short on the reviews needed), and hopefully to avoid some of the time-sink pitfall mistakes I made with my last two attempts (more focus and efficiency, less scope-creep).

Previous entries: - LD43 (Sacrifices must be made): Blood, Sweat, and Taxes - LD40 (The more you have, the worse it is): Financial Burden

To my fellow participants, I wish you all luck and look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with, and to all the players and reviewers, here's hoping you all have as much fun as we do making the games!

"Journey of the Homuculus" - FalseIncarnate's LD44 Compo Entry

Journey of the Homunculus

A tiny entity with a big goal: FREEDOM!

JotH_1.png

Guide a tiny homunculus through a miniature world, collecting and spending health to grow new abilities while avoiding being killed by rival homunculi and dangerous hazards.

Don't let the simplistic graphics and mechanics fool you though! Just as your homunculus grows as you progress, so does the challenges of the tiny world. It'll take some thought and reflexes to overcome your imprisonment in this minuscule environment!

JotH_2.png

Complete all 25 levels to earn your freedom and escape the miniature world! See how many or few upgrades you need to reach the end!

Check it out and let me know what you think!
