Hi,

This is my 1st LD, at least I hope so. I’m very excited about it!

I wanted to do the LD during summer, but it was so hot over here I was busy cooling down instead. At least this time it’s cooler.

Stuff I’m likely going to use: javascript (using my own very small javascript “framework”), notepad++, gimp, sxfr (or some similar sound program), mappy, autotracker, firefox, python  (and probably more that I can’t remember right now.)

It’s very likely to be a jam as I doubt I can make a lot of programmer-art during that time, but this depends on the theme. Perhaps I have nothing useful and have to make them new.

Also, I’ve got lots of food stored today. Still need to get more drinks, to make sure I don’t have to leave the house as much as possible. (Of course I have to go to a birthday party during the weekend, how’d you know?)

And hi to everyone on the IRC #ludumdare chat! Can’t promise I’ll be there all the time but it’s likely you can find me there. 😛

I should post something too, just as some progress. This is my first “in progress” post too.

I’m still stuck on how to continue and how to finish it , but I’ve got some gameplay fixed.

Also no sound or start screen or ending yet. But I thought I should show it first 😛

I forgot to make a post about the fact that I actually managed to finish a game, so here’s one.

Had to cut some corners, and ended up without any sound, or nice graphics, or something better than randomly generated levels, but I made it! (even if it’s a jam game now.)

It’s not hard to reach the end from here. :)

Took me really until now before I’ve actually recovered from the feeling from furiously making a game.

And people are playing it too, and commenting! Thanks!

Just a very short post to see if I still remembered how to write a post on LD.

This is hopefully my 3rd LD now! I wanted to do LD last August too, but this place got too hot. Hopefully this place wont get too hot tomorrow, and I have prepared lots of iced water bottles just in case…

Anyway, my tools will probably be (depends on the theme too):

• notepad++ (writing code)
• javascript
• gimp (images)
• irfanview (for post editing images)
• (maybe) autotracker
• and (maybe) some soundfx tool i haven’t found yet.

I’m really looking forward to do this LD!

Erm, just wanted to say I'm in... again.

Just checked... I started at LD34, so this is my 5th LD!

The tools are still the same:

• notepad++ for javascript coding
• gimp for images
• mappy for mapping
• some music tools but they never ended up in the final game :(

One thing I need to tell myself is,

NOTE TO MYSELF: PLEASE DO NOT DAWDLE AT THE THEME AND START MAKING A GAME AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!! DON'T WAIT TILL MONDAY AND THEN START PANICKING. :)

Let me first thank everyone who has played and rated and commented for my game, it was very insightful.

Now that LD 38 is finally over, I should write a post mortem for what went well and what went wrong for me:

• I've started my game on Sunday instead of Monday, but i still didn't had any inspiration for the theme and instead I just started on Sunday doing "whatever".
• I finished the game, but there was a lot of last minute stuff, like "programmer graphics" because I really ran out of time. No sound or time for testing too; would have ironed out some bugs.
• I think I got rank 150+ for fun, but the rest was way worse.
• I've played and rated a lot of games (about 50), but this time voting doesn't really gives anything but bad scores.

In the end, this Ludum took me 3 weeks of playing/rating/commenting and 1 week of preparation.

For what? for a 500+ place overall???

Also, the site worked against me... uploading images was a mess (and probably still impossible unless i install a new browser), couldn't really opt out for categories until many people voted (which affected overall score...)

For me, the conclusion is that I might make games during LD for fun, but this rating part is so not worth it... for me at least. I won't spend 3 weeks playing LD games and rating and commenting on them... it feels just a waste of time. (And I know I'm not very good at making games under pressure.)

Don't worry, I will still make games (probably), just not in 72 hours (but, never say never)... This format doesn't work for me. And I will still play LD games by other people, but it won't feel like work any more.

The site is not very fast for me already so I just want to say very quickly that I could probably in.

I just hope I can start make a game despaite the theme, unlike last LD's.

If not, then I will take a long break this weekend. :)

Whoa! I started and finished the game in 1 day (obviously I did reuse 70% of one of my older LD games' code, but I didn't had the time to write a whole new backend.)

I was actually very surprised I could finish making the game in a day, there was a lot of stuff to code... in the end I didn't had time for any graphics :(

But it is "finished"! and that's all it matters.

My last LD was LD43 -- yes, 2 years ago -- but I finally managed to finish in time for this LD!

But I've had missed a couple of times and most of the times I can only find inspiration on day 2. It's always hard.
