Good luck!

Day 1

I started late because of lack of inspiration. I now have an idea, but a goal is still missing. I now have the very basic enigne done. Better luck tomorrow!

Sounds like you’re in a similar position to me, I spent most of today moping around trying to get motivation and inspiration.

Best of luck to you as you forge ahead!

Day 1.5

I finally got an idea for my game, it’s now called Comet Run and will be a 2D time trial race game in space, ofcourse with 10 seconds time. I’m now implementing the mechanics and level functions. Tomorrow I’ll create the actual levels and SFX.

Day 2

Finally most of the mechanics are done. I added one level to test the engine.

First impression of Comet Run

Tomorrow is last day, I definitely have to do this:

  • Finish mechanics and add item drops to make playing more fun
  • Create more levels
  • Menu design
  • SFX and music!

Wish me luck!

Day 2.5

Well, all the mechanics are done, so now comes the levels and the polish! I slightly changed the goal, now you have to bring loot from one star to another.

Day 2.9: Finished!

Finally I’m done with Comet Run! I didn’t implement some things though, because of time lack, but I’m very happy with the result and I’ll implement the things I wanted after the jam. Play Comet Run here!

My hi-score

My hi-score

What went right?

  • Idea: The idea I eventually had worked out very good.
  • Graphics: Only with the use of built- in shapes of TCanvas the graphics look amazing! I’m not a great artist, so I hadn’t to do any drawing.
  • Sound: With the use of FL studio I created awesome techno music and celestial sound effects.

What went wrong?

  • Inspiration: It took a half day to come up with an idea, but eventually the idea was great!
  • Levels, Hi-scores, Menu: because time lack, I couldn’t implement more levels and hi-scores for each. Also a menu is omitted, but isn’t really needed with one level.

It was very fun to do this first Ludum Dare jam and I’m very happy with the game I made. I’m for 99% sure I’ll join next time!

Second LD

Hi, I’m in this time again! I chose to participate in the jam again, because I don’t have the whole weekend to work on my game, but stiull I try to do my best.

Planned was that I would use Java along with LWJGL, but I didn’t have any time to dive into that stuff (and didn’t enroll on the subject Computer Graphics in my study :S), so I use this TCanvas thingy again.

My toolkit:

  • Language: C++
  • IDE: Embarcadero C++Builder XE2
  • Libraries: Pure VCL
  • Graphics: None (using shapes)
  • Sound: Probably FL Studio 11

LD29

LD29 Day 0

I hope my real second LD will go well! Last time I had no inspiration for the theme, so I quit early without submitting. In August last year I made a nice game though, that I still want to develop further. Since I’m not always at home I’m  probably going to join the Jam, and since I made myself familiar with Java and OpenGL, I’m going to use those.

This is my tool package:

Engine: Java with LWJGL and SlickUtil
Graphics: Probably no external program, because using shapes, or else Photoshop and/or Inkscape
Music and SFX: FruityLoops Studio

I wish you and myself good luck!

LD29 Day 0.5

Beneath the Surface… It almost invited me to make another game involving dirt and ground. I had an idea for a mine tycoon thingy, where you have to create a mine where tiny robots harvest for ore, and then you coud sell the ore. But sincie it was probably out of my bounds I decided to not do this. Now I’m planning to create a puzzle game much like Super Collapse! or Hoyle’s Gravity Tiles. I already have some fancy music ready!

LD29 Day 1

Phew, what a day! It took me the first half of the day to come up ith the theme. Although I came up with this idea in the afternoon, I searched till 6pm for a better alternative, which I haven’t found. So that’s when I started to implement the Super Collide!-look-a-like. But it has to sides, a field where tiles will fall from above and a field turned upside down, to create the Beneath the surface-idea. All mechanics work, except for the removal of multiple blocks due to inefficient coding. Tomorrow I will fix that and probably do some polish, since I’m pretty sure I don’t have much time tomorrow. And as extra: here is a link to the theme song: fayl.in/ld29ogg.

LD Day 1.8

I haven’t done very much this day, but at least all mechanics are working! Yay! Now I’m just polishing things up eith animations, but the game, called Ore Genesis, probably won’t get super fancy graphics, since I have to school tomorrow. As extra here is the finished theme music: https://soundcloud.com/purplelum/ld29.

LD29 Day 2 – Playable demo!

Yay! I polished the whole thing up with animations and sound effects and I added a new wave system in which tiles will appear. The only thing I have to do tomorrow is add a menu and highscores.

You can try a playable demo of Ore Genesis in Java: http://fayl.in/oga1

In for the fourth time

Hi everyone, this will be my fourth participation in Ludum Dare! A short summary of my other three Ludum Dares:

  • LD27: I made Comet Run for the theme 10 seconds, I am creating a Java port at the moment.
  • LD28: Failed due to lack of inspiration for You only get one.
  • LD29: I made Ore Genesis for the theme Beneath the surface, first time using Java.

The tools I am using this time are:

Code: Java with LWJGL, SlickUtil and the self written wrapper Gloom.

Graphics: None for the game itself,  otherwise Inkscape.

Music: Fl Studio.

I wish everyone good luck!

LD34

Real third LD I hope

Hi all,

I’ve been away for a long time in Ludum Dare, but I hope to get some time in the next weekend to create a little minimalistic game for LD34! My toolkit is, as usual:

Code: Java with LWJGL and self-written wrapper Glome, possibly with other wrappers, depending on the theme.
Graphics: If I can manage to implement an SVG drawing function, then Inkscape, otherwise plain old shapes.
Sound: FL Studio 12

Good luck and see you around!

LD35

I’m in (sort of…) / Composer looking for work

Hi everyone! My last Ludum Dare is already LD29, although I made a half game for the last jam. Since that game was focused more on music than actual gameplay, I decided to go for another musical game in LD35. If I’m in, I’ll use the following:

Code: Java with LWJGL and self-written wrapper Glome, possibly with other wrappers, depending on the theme.
Graphics: If I can manage to implement an SVG drawing function, then Inkscape, otherwise plain old shapes.
Sound: FL Studio 12

But… I’m also willing to help other people by composing music and perhaps sound effects for their games. I’m mostly specialized in trance and techno music, but I also like to make classical, trailer-ish music and ambient music. My work can be found at purplelum.com . If you need a musician and enjoy my music, then send me a message!
