LD30

Finally a free weekend that matches LD :)

Ok, everything is about ready for the weekend. The #ludumdare IRC channel is running on one monitor, the background music have been selected (Slay-, Scene Sat- and Scene King- Radio) and friends and family have been told, not to contact me from Friday evening until Monday morning.. :) Only thing missing now is shopping for food and drink.

Success criteria for my first LD;

  1. Submit a game. That’s about it, if I get that far it will be great 😀
  2. Submit a playable game.
  3. Having a bit of graphics (Don’t fail me now Gimp)
  4. Having some sound effects (Bfxr to the rescue)
  5. Having music (Never made music for anything before…)
  6. Having amazing graphics (not going to happen, I have to do it!)

Tools I use:

Engine: Unity
IDE: Visual Studio
Audio: Audacity, Bfxr, PixiTracker
Graphics: GraphicsGale, InkScape, Gimp, PyxelEdit, Blender, Spriter

Good luck to everyone.. :)

LD30 Startup scripts.

Hi all, :)

As the rules states “Base code and personal code libraries are allowed, but should be declared and shared with the community prior to beginning your entry. To do this, make a blog post.”

So I’ll share the two small scripts that I use in almost project I make in Unity.

  • AudioController.cs for playing sfx’s. I normally use this when I destroy an object that should play a death sfx. I can just play a sound an destroy the object instead of having to keep it in limbo just to play a sound.
  • CameraScript.cs for following player or any other object with damping.

Download Startup scripts

That was it.. Rules obeyed :)

Good luck all. =D

Screenshots video of my progress, and good night.

Brain fried.. Off to bed.. Almost at zombie level of activity.

Thanks for a intense weekend, resulting in a new view of myself and what I can do if I spend some time creating..  This will NOT be my last LD.. =D

I created a short screenshots video of my progress http://youtu.be/-nw7FbFOEJ8 .

Hope you enjoy the game “Join Us!” and do leave a comment at the Ludum Dare game page.

Now, go make games 😉

Good night… .. .  .   .     .        .           .                .                     .

Join Us! Mini let me play video.

Hi all,

First thanks to all that have tried my game and rated it.

As many have mentioned the flotiness of the controls, I thought I would share a video of me playing the game to show, what I think is a good play/run. In the video I get a time of 128.8 seconds which is 20 sec over the maximum difficulty which is reached at time 100 sec.
After the 100 seconds you are you own worst enemy, because of the wrapping around of space letting your bullets hit you in the back :)

Hope this shows that the game isn’t suppose to go on for more than a minute or two.

Hope you enjoy. 😀

Now, go make games 😉

50 games rated, and there are still sooo much time, and sooo many games that I have to play :) Loved it!

Hi all,

I’ve now rated 50 #LD48 games, and are having so much fun playing the games and seeing what you have all created :)

I definitely hope to be able to do LD31, LD32, and so on. :) Great experience, and rough.. You DO feel the pressure, even though the only one pressuring you, is… You. .

Most fun so far have been “Zanlings Match” by Franklins Ghost, only game that have made me laugh out loud. Great humor. 😀

Most moody and aesthetic pleasing graphics I’ve seen, was “juxtapose ” by zillix.

Have fun playing LD games :)

Now, go make games!

Escaping The Well - Almost there.

Seeing what others have been able to create from scratch all alone, is amazing :)

I took the Compo rules 100% serious, and created everything my self, even the crappy font, and music! For the players mental health, I did add a mute button to be able to opt out of the repetitive audio loop.

Enjoy jumping from atom to atom, maybe you will even remember some of the names :)

This is what I ended up with. SS001.png

There is no end to the game, just an endless line of atoms. Score are only for your own enjoyment, and has no consequences to the player.

Rules of the Game:

The energy of the photons needed to escape is indicated by the color of the outermost orbit color. In the bottom you have the same information, plus a valid range of energies (colors) that you can safely hit. If you collect a photon with to much energy, you will be overexcited for a couple of seconds, if you hit a photon with to little energy you will just be pushed around a bit.

When absorbing a photon, locate yourself so the momentum will carry you out of the atom to escape.

Atoms with very low and very high masses, are very hard to escape from. Photons needed to escape the low Atoms are limited in energy and most have way to much energy. For atoms with high masses only few photons have enough energy to allow you to escape.

"Just relax and wait for the right one to come by and let you journey out into the world." ;)

Hope you will enjoy playing it, when the submission page is up and running.

To join or not to join....

Hi, all you lovely LD jammers out there! :)

Last jam was a disaster, I didn't have the time, and the game ended up not even being a game.. :/ This time the jam falls on my birthday, so a good chunk of the time will be spend enjoying the company of friends. :D Should I join and aim for a very, very small game, or just let it go?

I want to join! I missed so many LD jams, it just feels like there is always something getting in the way.

Maybe, maybe..

Help me decide

LD 44

Know I shouldn't but I have to try..

I'm in.. Just had to get that out of the way :D

I'll, for the first time ever, try to make a low res, pixel-perfect game, using Unity.. :/ Should be possible :)

Anyone else set up some restrictions on resolution, engine, #colors or something else?

Good luck to everyone!

Rules for myself!

I need to keep reminding myself, to just do it, and not think to much about the logic of the game I'm making.

So here are my 4 rules for LD46 to help me do just that.

  1. No idea is stupid, weird or to dumb. Allow yourself to create something completely nuts.
  2. DON'T optimize anything, or implement everything according to design patterns. Make unoptimized spaghetti code.. Just make it work!
  3. Try WORK BACKWARDS! As suggested by Christer McFunkypants Kaitila in his tweet. Photoshop a beautiful mockup (the screenshot you wish it was) for the 1st several hours
  4. Art doesn't have to make sense! Look at a C64 game like Monty on the run, where you are met with enemies like floating smiling heads, teapots, heads with feet and huge noses, angry ghosts, flying mugs, clocks with wings, the list goes on.

That's it, if you have any suggestions to help NOT limiting myself, then please share.

Good luck to everyone. - INCD021

Ludum Dare 54

It's done.

First Godot game is done!

It was a special experience, but I'm still very positive about a future married to Godot. I'm not a 3D AAA game developer; I'm a hobbyist and won't need all the power of the bigger engines. I want to be able to create, and I do see Godot focusing on making it easy to create. Using ray-casts was way too easy! 😊

The game isn't anything amazing, but it wasn't planned to be. I just wanted to learn to use Godot. I think it was a success.
