Annoying Start Time
Ludum Dare starts at 2AM on the 23rd here in UK, so I’m going to have a bit of a late start… either that or get up a two in the morning >YAWNS<
Anyone else got an awkward start time?

After a solid 4 hours:

The Physics works! (apart from the gravity)
Oh well.
Right, so yesterday I started off pretty well, I got physics, gravity, worlds and a little character done. Then I spent about 3 hours trying and failing to implement a wall, so I tore up most of it and chucked it away to start from scratch.
Oh well 😛
Finally, after 1 day of wasted work and another of some work, for my first Ludum Dare I have a retro space game where you have to avoid the CONNECTED WORLDS!
I think it might be a bit loosely connected, but it’s all I’ve got 😛
See it here: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-30/?action=preview&uid=39482
(also, there’s no sound because I have no sound equipment at all)
So, I started off my first day full of ideas and energy, and started work on an amazing HD, high FPS, hundred-level super-platformer. By the end of the day, I had a little guy on wheels who jumped about in a physically realistic world.
By the next day I had realised I wasn’t going to finish, so I scrapped most of it and just decided to make a slightly retro infinite flying game.
😛

First off, I’m already getting excited at the prospect of LD31, it seems to have come around so soon!
I’m new to Unity, and have got the latest version installed (as well as Blender) and was wondering if anyone knows any good resources to help me get a bit further in 3D or 2D and learn in a bit more precise way than the (very helpful) video tutorials that Unity provides. I’m not an absolute beginner as I know a tiny bit about C# and the basics of Unity. Any help would be appreciated as I’m hoping to use Unity for LD31 instead of Pygame (which was one of my most painful and long-winded game programming experiences).
Just a reminder that over the LD weekend I’ll be streaming on Twitch. Unfortunately for America, you’ll probably be asleep due to America’s -7 hours on Britain. Oh well. I’ll be streaming from around 8:00 UTC until around 21:00 UTC with gaps on both days, so check me out on twitch.tv/jthistle and follow me for a notification of when I’m live, if you can. Happy Ludum Daring!
Yes, that’s it. Art, music, code and all that other jazz finished! I felt less rushed than last time, where I scrapped my game after the first day and made another one from scratch on the second. This time round I’ve used Unity 4.6. You can play my game here
I made Crate Collecter for the compo using Unity 2D. It’s a slightly retro-based catch-items-falling-from-the-sky game, with good old powerups. Give it a go here, and rate it if you can
Ludum Dare 32, here I come! Hopefully this time I’ll be able to get into the top 1000, maybe the top 750 ![]()
I’ll be using:
Not forgetting the heroic amount of tea/coffee I usually drink ![]()
Good luck!

Hey guys!
I’ll be streaming Ludum Dare from 8:00 UTC until around 19:00 BST with gaps on both days, so check me out on twitch.tv/jthistle and follow me for a notification of when I’m live, if you can.
Good luck if you’re taking part!
I don’t know, I didn’t realise Ludum Dare 33 had crept up so quickly.
I guess that I might take part. It’s a possibility.
If I do, I’ll be using the same stuff as always: Aseprite, GarageBand, Unity (2D, I’m not skilled enough to use blender) and some other stuff.
The previous 3 times, I’ve taken part in the compo, but this time I might take part in the Jam. No stream this time, I’ll be taking this LD a little less seriously (if I take part).
Anyway, good luck to everyone!
