Mink's journey

Hey everyone, I wanted to talk a bit about Mink, the main character for our last couple of games!

thumbnail.png

If you have played our game called Keep It Steaming there is a good chance you've seen our boy Mink as a Train Conductor. Even though the train wasn't doing so good this is still Mink's dream job, so be easy on him!

MinkLD50.png

This is actually the 3rd game where you can find Mink!

DrunkHill.jpg

Drunk Hill was our entry for LD49 where Mink had to find his way to his favorite bar for Happy Hour! We had a blast making weird movement for this jam!

MinkLD49.png

Endless8.jpg

In The Endless 8 you play as one of our other characters called Karel, but Mink is definitely there! (can you spot him behind the table?)

In this game you have to figure out who your target is and take them out! While talking to all of the party people you have the chance to discover Mink's dramatic backstory :O

This is Mink his first appearance!

His 3d model! LD47.png Look at those cute hairs~ Mink.png

Need any ideas? We got you!

Our team woke up a bit ago after a good brainstorming session yesterday!

In case you hate the theme or love it but have no idea what to create either way, here are some of our leftover ideas!

I'll split these up in three types: Movement/Combat, Pile Up, Other

Movement/Combat

These ideas are definitely a bit on the more difficult side to implement correctly, but still fun nonetheless!

Ultimate Shooter

Every 10 seconds, a new wave is spawned in, and you can run around and have to survive (killing/pacifist?)

This is your basic enemy shooter game where a new wave of enemies comes in every 10 seconds! You can mix this up by removing the player their gun, so it becomes more about running away from tons of enemies.

Quick-Time RTS

Every 10 seconds, the player has to decide where to move or attack. The player only has x amount of turns to finish the level.

With this, think of Crypt of the necrodancer, Xcom, Fire emblem, etc. The player will be given a goal, and has x amount of turns to complete it. Each turn the player has 10 seconds to decide what action to take (moving, attacking, using items, etc).

Rushed Parkour

Every 10 seconds, the player has to reach the next checkpoint or get teleported back to the previous checkpoint. This could be your basic platformer game (or put an extra spin on it, like Getting over it or Celeste) BUT you have to reach the next point within the 10 seconds which can make the game a lot more difficult and more about finding the best way forward. A lot of balancing involved!

Pile Up

These games are about giving the player more work every 10 seconds!

Minigame Hell

Every 10 seconds, a new puzzle is added to your desk, if you have x amount of unsolved puzzles you fail. The player is given a new tiny minigame every 10 seconds and can choose to work on the minigame or wait for the next one. If a minigame is unsolved for too long OR too many minigames are on the table you lose!

Let us in!

Every 10 seconds, a new person joins the group and you have to check their id/card to see if they are allowed in. If x people are waiting, or if you messed up x amount then you fail.

Kinda like Not Tonight and Papers Please!

Paperworks Please

Every 10 seconds, more paperwork is added to your desk. If you don't complete the paperwork on time OR when too much paper work is added, your desk overflows and you fail the game. (Or if you mess up paperwork)

Same kind of idea as the previous two, but a lot more simplified, fix up paperwork and send it in, don't keep the paperwork waiting or your desk might overflow!

Other

Some games that don't fit a certain type.

Push It

Every 10 seconds, the player has to push a button. A narrator will talk about how to player is pressing the button well, or how the player is messing up.

This is a very story-based game where the player has to press a simple button every 10 seconds, a narrator will talk about the player's decisions and maybe throw some plot twists throughout the game.

Timely Tasks

Every 10 seconds, a minigame is shown that has to be completed in the allocated time.

Very similar to Minigame Hell, but this time the player has 10 seconds to complete one minigame, if they fail they lose, what highscore can you get?

That's it for now, I'll talk later about what idea we went with. Good luck everyone!

Guess The Game

Hey everyone, we are Bonk Inc and we want to play a small game today!

I will show you our main menu and give you a small description of our current team and I'd like for you to guess what our game will be about. Correct guesses might be featured :)

The Bonk Inc Team: We have three developers; two 3D artists, an audio composer with a history of csgo map development and last but not least a voice actor!

This is how you will be greeted when booting up the game: mainMenuuu.png

Any guesses? Feel free to send them our way!

Progress Update Day 1 (and a bit)

Hey all, We from Bonk Inc wanted to show you our progress into YAHG!

As you can see here, the art looks quite nice so far. Loving the barn ^^ fence.JPG

We also have one of our characters here, doesn't it look just... cute? yeah idk. Foot Lettuce sprite v2.png

We are busy creating everything needed for the player and all the other fun characters, designing the map also seems like a lot of work!

Guess The Game

Earlier this jam we started a little game, can you guess the goal of our game in this tread and you might get your name featured in the game ^^

Our biggest brainstorm

Hey all, Bonk Inc here again!

I have to admit, this jam actually went quite fast with designing a concept that would work (even though we definitely over scoped waaaay to much for the time that our dev team has buuuut don't tell anyone that!)

As you can see in our drawings here, we pretty quickly came up with some idea's and yes the smileys are some of the better ideas that we had, you got that right :) biggestBrainstorm.png

I don't wanna show off too much as everyone can still guess what our game will be about in this thread!

Good luck with the jam everyone!

Ludum Dare 54

The Giant's Globe has no more bugs!

We fixed the big audio bug and the wall stick bug, and some minor ones as well :) So as far as we know all bugs are fixed, We would love to find some new ones!

We are also planning on making a post jam version with more improvements and all 9 levels!

Can you beat the top 3?

What makes a game difficult?

When creating our game Gnomin' we took inspiration from games like Getting Over It and Get Out Joey. These games are usually quite difficult, but should still be fair. We hope to be both, and would like your opinion! Is our game difficult enough? Is it too difficult? Are there any aspects you find unfair?

The leaderboard

Similar to our other games, Gnomin' has a leaderboard to motivate players to compete with each other. At this moment, I am still first place, I'd like this to be changed! Help Ink the gnome get to the end of the cave as fast as you can and beat me, Korcalius and Meep out of the top 3!

You can play Gnomin here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/56/gnomin

We need your fanart!

Hello good people of the Ludums, for our game we are gathering fanart of our characters from previous entries.

It does not matter if you are an artist, developer or audio composer (or anything in between), we'd love your fanart!

As long as the art is in 650x650 we will absolutely love it ^^ Feel free to use whatever art style you are comfortable with.

We got a lot of characters to use, down below I will share some of them.

Optionally, you can find more character references in our games: https://bonk-group.itch.io/ (Endless 8 has a lot of characters)

You can reach me on Discord, under the name BasicMilky. We look forward to your fanart!

Karel is our local half-demon boy karel.png
