3 quarters done…?

This is my first Ludum Dare, and it’s been pretty fun so far.

The game I’ve been making is a simple run and gun platformer, but with evolving baddies. There’s three weapons: a machine gun, sniper rifle, and grenade launcher. The baddies will adapt to which weapon you’re using, so you need to keep switching around to make sure they stay easy to kill xD

I’ve got the gameplay done, all that’s left is to do is a sweet looking background, a title screen, music and sound effects, and a little bit of a story, if I have time. I probably won’t though. Oh well. 😀

The end

First Ludum Dare finished! I had time to put in everything I wanted to, which is good. I also had time to fix some slightly irritating (but not game breaking) bugs, so yay 😀

Check out my entry here!

Looking forward to the next Ludum Dare! 😀

Making a game in 48 hours is too mainstream

So I’m in for this Ludum Dare. This’ll be my third one, but it’s going to be rather different from the other two. I’m not going to have time to start for another 24 hours /o\ Also, I’m using Unity for the first time. I’ve never made a game with it before, only know a few basics of the program.

So yeah, making a Unity game for the first time, in 24 hours? This ain’t gonna be pretty. Oh well, it’ll be fun though, and that’s all that really matters!

Tools: Unity, Photoshop, Illustrator, LMMS.

Progress Update

Been going at this for about 5 hours now, I have a little bit to show for my work:

Screenshot (132)

Decided to go with billboarding for most of the objects in the game because I really like that effect in 3d games. Also, I can’t 3d model 😛

I’ve got pretty much all the assets for my game, now I just need to make the actual ‘game’ part…

If you want to stalk me- I mean watch my livestream, you can check it out here: http://www.twitch.tv/lambomann007 😉

Scraith

The product of 24hrs gruelling game making: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-27/?action=preview&uid=15359

Scraith thumb

So I made a little suspense/survival game. You can only move for 10 seconds at a time. While you’re moving the monsters (which I dubbed scraiths) can’t (if they are, that’s just a bug. Just ignore it :P) When you can’t move, they can. So you’ve sort of got to stay away from them and where they’re going, otherwise they’ll get you and there’s nothing you can do about it :3 There’s long grass scattered around though, so if you hide in that they won’t see you. (Again, if they do, it’s a bug. Just ignore it :P). There’s 10 magical orbs scattered around the world, once you find all ten of them you win the game. Obviously though, if one of the scraiths gets you, you die.

I’m quite proud with what I was able to accomplish. This is the first 3D game I’ve ever made, first time I’ve used Unity. Unity is so easy to use! I’m rather surprised by it. :O

Anyway, my future plans for this game are to polish it up a bit, then port it to Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8. I need something to play on my Surface and Lumia 920 😛

\ \ World Shift \ \ Progress Update #1

So 2 hours after my unfortunate late start I have the basic gameplay mechanic all programmed! And I think I’ve figured out the aesthetic of the game.

Which is all very rad, because now I can spend the rest of the comp doing level design and whatnot. Usually when I do LD I spend most of the time doing the mechanics and aesthetics and only have a little time at the end for level design…

(P.S. this is the first time I’ve tried making a GIF of one of my games and posting it here, so here’s hoping it works *crosses fingers*)

I want to play YOUR games!

lambomang plays ludum dare

Hey there you awesome Ludum Darers! It’s your friendly neighborhood lambomang here! I’m starting a Let’s Play Ludum Dare series which will be beginning later this week, and I need YOUR games to play!

I will be doing a series where’ll I’ll play 5 Ludum Dare games I think are pretty cool every episode. Out of those 5 I will pick my favourite, and then at the end of the series I’ll pick my overall fav out of those. The winner will win the only slightly prestigious ‘We need a better name for this title’ Title ‘You’re a winner Harry!’

award
And then once the LD results have been released I’ll do a follow up episode where’ll compare how well my favourites ranked, and maybe play some other high ranked games I didn’t play.

If you want to see your game played as part of this series, just send me a link in this super dooper handy dandy form what I cooked up last night: http://goo.gl/forms/p8H1DxjneI
Just make sure to send me the link to your game on Ludum Dare, not where you’re hosting it. That way I can direct people back to your page to vote for your game!

Anyway, all the fun and action will be happening over at my channel at https://youtube.com/c/lambomang/
Subscribe to that if you want to be kept up to date on all the Ludum Dare shenanigans!

Any hint about when it will start rolling?

Swim Fast

Swimming mechanic for VR complete

Making a sort of underwater roguelike game for VR. Now I gotta do the guns :smirk_cat:

big gun

gun.gif The swimming game now has a gun.

No particle effects yet and that's definitely not the model I'll be using for it xD But it has one and two handed aiming, basic weight simulation, vstock and realistic reloading mechanics.

Now I just gotta make some things to shoot 🤔

shorks

shorks.gif Yeah they have lasers 😎

Shooty shooty

shooty.gif I'm pretty happy with where the gun is at now. Got it feeling real nice to use, though it has used up most of my time on the jam so far xD

Now I gotta make the sharks shoot back. And maybe make the rest of the game before the jam ends...

Finally starting on the environment

cave.png Although I might have to switch from the 48hr to the 72hr. Spent all my time so far getting mechanics working, and after I get some sleep I'll only have a few hours left to finish D:

Environmental Assets are done!

environment assets done_brightened.png A few low poly rocks, stalactites, columns, cliffs and crystals, plus some really nice fog and lighting sure do wonders for making it look like a real game xD All that's left to do is layout a level and add some sounds
