Ludum Dare 46

Web-based tech tree library I made. USE IT!

tl;dr: react-based MIT-licensed tech trees for the jam

Show, don't tell: other11.gif

All of those trees (NOT THE ART) were made using a library I just released, that I plan to use for this game jam. It is available on npm

You can click on each node, SHOW TOOLTIPS, and other cool stuff.

Please star it on github

And visit the website for more examples!

Art used

_ note: I didn't make any of the art, I am just showcasing what you can do with this library _

ps: MIT licensed, so very open source.

pps: I forgot to add, I 'm in :D !

Does it run? Let me quick-test your game

So! I've seen at least 2 projects that don't run on my macbook, and I thought this is the perfect place to test that your game runs.

Post a comment with a link to your game and I'll try it on - a 2019 Macbook pro

  • a chromebook

  • my iphone SE

I will attempt to install and run the game and I'll report the results back to you. I WILL NOT PLAY your game. This is only to make sure that you are, you know, actually building something that someone else can play.

Adrestia: Async Multiplayer Update

Adrestia is my entry for this year's Ludum Dare. It is basically an RPG battle simulator.

It took longer than what I wanted, but you can now

  • create your own waves and share them

  • load other people's creations!

I'll write a post-mortem for my game soon enough, but the gist of it is: my game is barely a game as it is, but with more time and different mechanics and a clearer UI, I can totally see it becoming a wonderful game. In some sense, I want to open source this an use it as a basis for my next LD jam entry.

Anyways, here's the game

On results

tl;dr: going the Mumen Rider route

So let me begin this by saying that my results are prettty bad ratings.png

Also, unlike many people here, this is certainly not my first Ludum Dare.

Now, let's do a proper post-mortem

As a reminder, this is my game: Adrestia: Sublime Balance

On effort

I tried really, really hard to make a game this time around. Even for post-jam updates, I got multiplayer working and even some tests!

The point of this part is that I didn't sleep much while I was making the game. And getting everything to work took a lot of time. Seriously. So I will not excuse myself by saying that I could have tried harder. I gave it my best

On feedback

The fact of the matter is that my 'game' is - barely playable - unfinished

A streamer was kind enough to play my game and immediately pointed out something to me: a mechanic without anything to support it is not a game. Building cool systems that nobody gets to play do not make for an interesting game.

Balance, Fun, and other elements are far more important when making a game. It is why some of the best entries for this jam use a limited set of mechanics and have a good balanced game. On the comments for my game, and for the previous games that I made, there is this sentiment that I have wanted to avoid, but I must make explicit:

Creating cool things because they are cool to program and to think about means nothing if the player cannot have a good experience in the end.

I am a very stubborn person, but I write this for the future me: limit your scope. Make a playable game.

And finally, be like Mumen Rider (character from One Punch Man).

Am I the best game maker out there? Nop. Will I continue trying? Hell yeah.

top 1000th next time for sure!!! :D
