I’m In!

Hey everyone, I’m LogGiant (known offline as Logan), and I’ve been learning the Lightweight Java Game Library (with the slick util for handy texture loading ;)) since I got out of school near the end of May to keep myself busy, so I thought I would give LD a try! I’m pretty excited, I think I am going to spend this week making sure I’m ready. It’s nice to meet you all. 😀

So far so good, I suppose…

I thought I would share some of my progress so far!
I am pretty new to programming, so I thought I would keep it simple. Here is the monster “evolver” part of my game. As you can see, it’s only about 40% done.

Look at him, so tough with those arms sticking out everywhere

I still need to add in the buttons to actually add things to the monsters (like spikes, lots of spikes), and send them into battle!

Then again, after seeing all these other great games mine looks a little cheesy… Hah!

Going great!

12-ish hours in: I thought I would post a slightly-more-polished-but-not-all-the-way-there screen shot. This one is of a furry monster, I think he might be my new favorite. For a simple game this is a lot more time consuming than I expected! At least it’s a fun time.

What a little badass!

Just don’t ask about the “Skin” monster. It really is awful…

Progress! Woo

After a short break from coding, I went back to it, and got almost all the UI finished, which is a large part of the game!
I don’t think this game will be super great, but it will be mildly entertaining ( I hope) and finished in the 48 hour time span, and that’s just what I want it to be!
Here’s my fabulous title screen with some monsters:

It’s simple, and a little goofy, but I’m no artist here!

Unfortunately it looks like real life is going to be getting in the way soon, so hopefully I can finish it up either tonight or tomorrow morning.
(BTW, all of your games look wonderful. I’m having a hard time concentrating because I keep seeing all the awesome games popping up. Keep up the great work!)

Regarding my Game

Hey, if anybody noticed, my game was not running for some reason and I had to go to work before the compo ended. Well now there is some great news: using JarSplice I managed to get the dang thing working! The game is unchanged from when I submitted it, its just that it was repackaged into a fat jar (and I hope that’s legal and all),  so you should check it out if you wanted to before.

Best of luck to everyone!

Trying the Jam

With one LD under my belt I thought I’d come back for more with friends. Hopefully more people/time allows me to make something a little more playable and fun.

The goods:
Code:
Java through Eclipse with LWJGL and Slick
Graphics:
Paint.net
Sound:
Reaper

It looks like we have a team of 4, with 1-2 on code, 1 on art and 2 on sound. Worst case scenario is an awesome soundtrack!

Jam Progress!

After my team got back from The Hobbit we got right to work! So far we have some wonderful art and some very basic controls and sound. So far so good!Skeleton

Isn’t he cute? Err… evil. Yes, evil. VERY evil.

24 hours to go!

It turns out working in a team doesn’t suddenly make everything easy. With all this school and real life getting in the way progress is slow, but at least we have a pretty game so far. I’m hoping to get the rest of it coded tonight and work on polish tomorrow between classes!

Pay no heed to the red cube

Pay no heed to the flying red cube..

Let’s Jam!

Hey everyone! A couple of friends and I are ready for the Jam this time around.
Tools:
Unity – C#
Gimp/Paint/Blender
And of course anything else we end up needing.

Good luck!

We’re Back and Ready to Jam!

We had such a fun time making our last LD game we thought we’d come back for another Jam. We’ll be bringing a few more friends this time, so we may end up breaking into two small groups to have double the fun!
Our tools:

Unity+C#, Paint.net/GIMP/Blender

Good luck everyone!

LD Strikes Again!

Looks like we’re joining the LD again this time around. It’s two of us this time around and we’ll be using Unity with C# and a few other programs like GIMP for assets.

Almost 24 Hours Down

It’s hard to believe that we started 24 hours ago. We figured the worst kind of monster sits in alleys in the dark in the middle of the city with a white van.

Hopefully we’ll have a lot more interesting things to show off in the next 48!

Play that Banjo

I haven't had nearly as much time as I'd like to work on this LD, but here's a capsule playing the banjo!

So far so good...

Ludum Dare 46

End of the Second Night!

It turns out after our first full day of working on the game we've learned a few things. Mostly that networking always takes significantly longer than expected. I'm grateful that there are so many free 3D assets we can use to save time, it's definitely not our strong suit.

But we've got multiplayer robots multiplayer.png and some neat aiming mechanics ezgif.com-optimize.gif

P.S., if you've got any tips or best practices for squeezing more performance out of Mirror in Unity go ahead and @ me

Ludum Dare 48

H Y P E D for LD 48!

We're back for the 48th Ludum Dare, and it feels like I'm slowly converting all of my friends and colleagues to the LD cult.

There are three of us doing the jam this year. I always love game jams as a great way to push boundaries, but unfortunately last year's boundary was multiplayer in Unity cough terrible idea cough. This year we're going back to basics, and our goal is to come up with a fun wacky hook and some interesting gameplay. We've been really into game design the past few months, and this is a great time to put it to good use!

Our Usual Kit: - Unity - Blender - Photoshop - [insert audio software]

Good luck everyone, I hope you all can make something you're proud of! 😎

40 Hours Into the Jam

We've hit some interesting road blocks in Unity, and we're all about cut-cut-cutting our scope! I've also got a newfound appreciation for all the wonderful 3D assets out there

We've finished setting up this main village, and Mr. Worthington is definitely up to something suspicious... You'll need to go deeper and deeper into our game to find out!

50 Hours In!

Last night we threw together a quick and dirty event system to get the character to note items in the environment, and we've spent most of the day building up the environment itself and filling out content. I think it looks pretty good considering it's built by a bunch of engineers. Hopefully 20 hours is enough time to fill out the rest of our puzzle content!

On an unrelated note, we found this particularly enticing crystal in our temple this afternoon...
