End of day 1 - 68 hours remain

Currently the idea is that the more leaves you have, the worse it is.

I'm aiming for something between jmtb02's coin box hero and something from ferry halim's orisinal page; sort of a zen-like unbeatable score game where you rake leaves.

I'm pretty sure at this point I'll fall pretty far short of both marks.

Art is definitely the hardest part of this, even though I've yet to try programming any of it. So far I've got a disembodied rake, a very badly drawn garbage bag, a very very badly drawn leaf, and some wind sounds.

So far so good.

That's a wrap on my first twitch stream ever

So that's cool. Here's a screenshot of the finished game:

Kind of a shame the image doesn't convey the sweet music I wrote for it :P

Most of the twitch VODs are available at https://www.twitch.tv/markopolodev/videos/all if you want to see a replay of how this was made.

New Crux Swarm Post-Jam Version

0.4.0

All areas have been more or less completely redone, although the general shape of the world is still the same. * the world is roughly three times bigger than the jam version :D * some areas got some new art * lots of small bugfixes and tweaks * lots of new bugs I haven't discovered, no doubt

So that is pretty neat, I would say.

Also, I finally uploaded the vods to twitch, so you can watch the entire jam weekend from start to finish if you want to see exactly how I made some of this stuff.

Crux Swarm Soft-lock Bug has been Fixed

It started as pride. Ha ha ha, players are finding my game challenging.

This turned to a bit of frustration, since so many people seemed to be unable to complete it.

The most recent emotion was horror, after watching @rebecca-kremer play it on stream, when I discovered that through a perfectly normal interaction players could accidentally render the game unbeatable. :frowning2:

It was a simple bug: Cores were deactivating when their shields reached 0 without checking if they had been activated or not. This meant players could accidentally repeatedly deactivate the same core, which borked the music layers, severely handicapped their tower inventory, and ensured the chain in front of the victory doorway never opened.

So yeah, that's fixed now.

In other news, I'm working on a post-jam version with some cool changes, some of which are environmental: ld41emscary/emheademsneak/empeek.gif

Ludum Dare 48

I'm extremely salty

LD48 seemed like my best entry yet, but it has the worst ratings I've ever gotten for a completed game.

just wanted to vent. :slight_frown:

Ludum Dare 50

extremely extra disco ball for an extremely extra game

after doing the compo for years, it's weird to say "eh, I don't need to finish this for like another week at least"

It's been nice to get deep into juice / polish / etc and get stuff to where I like it before having to call it done.
