Progress! also a waste of a minute and thirty six seconds

Please ignore the floating anchor, it isn’t supposed to be there and if we all just ignore it maybe it’ll just go away on its own.

I'm in again

Had a blast last time. Super excited for teams!

We'll probably be working with: - Unity - Aseprite - Visual Studio/Mono - Something for music - bfxr

Bureaucratic Deity Simulator 2018 - Become a flat world deity today!

FeatureGraphic2.png Bureaucratic Deity Simulator 2018

What is this all about?

Turns out there are a lot of small asteroids out there and the powers that be (your boss) have decided that they should be transformed into living worlds. The catch is that your boss is really into flat world, like really really into it, they chose all flat asteroids, oh well that's divine life.

Capture5.PNG

How do I change the world?

That's easy, just drag the tiles from you scroll of power and place them on the asteroid, simple.

No wait, that's not true, not completely. Sometimes when you place a tile next to another one it'll change. Mountains erode from the sea and a river next to a grasslands allow for a village to settle. There are a complex set of rules so its not actually simple at all... sorry... Oh, but there's a handy cheat card so it's alright (so sayeth the boss).

This Ludum Dare

Last time @douglass and I made a game about a proud blimp pilot, you don't have to play it, I won't be upset. This time around we added two friends into the mix (@musluk who did all the music and sounds for us and @growlands who did all of the art).

This time around we decided to add an extra challenge to the jam, we wanted to see if we could make the game mobile friendly, and I think we did alright. Leave us a comment and let us know what you think.

The web player works, but we recommend the Android version for the best hand feel, a link to the play store is available on the game page (don't worry its the same apk available on the itch page, the submission apk).

I want to play your mobile games (and others)

If you made a mobile (Android) game I'd love to play it, comment below. If you made a mobile inspired game, I'd love to play that too, also comment below. If you don't fit those groups but have a game you want me to play well..

Actually I'd be happy to play it, and maybe check out our entry and leave a rating while you're at it.

Available on the Play Store

And on Web/Win/Mac/Linux

Rate Here.

I'm in!

Third time participating in the Jam

We previously built Bureaucratic Deity Simulator 2018 And Steamjunk Racers Nine Thousand

We'll probably be using: * Unity * Blender/SketchUp if 3D, Asperite if 2D (more likely) * bfxr for sound unless we have someone doing sound again this time * some music program or Kevin MacLeod unless we have someone doing music again this time * Jenkins for automatic builds and pushing to itch.io (I'll probably set the server up early but all config for the game will be set up at jam time) * Anything else we need in the spur of the moment * Food

Excited to see all the interesting games everyone comes up with. Hopefully we have a smoother run this time.

Some Games I Enjoyed and you should too!

Since my game has already reached 20 ratings, here are some of the games I've enjoyed that still need ratings

Dash Fister - pkenney (@pkenney)

A game where your batteries power both your attacks and your defense but fall out when used, an interesting take on the theme.

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/dashfister

Dash Fister

Powerless World - Marc Grabow (@marc-grabow)

A game where all power has gone out and you must manage the good people of your world, a bit of a stretch on the theme but a challenging game that I spent more than 30 minutes on.

Powerless World

Escape the Morgue - Jacksendary (@jacksendary)

This is a nice spooky sort of game that constantly had me worried that something was going to pop up and kill me, interesting puzzle components and they include a walkthrough if you get stuck.

Escape the Morgue

Solar Snoop's Star Trek - tweedle (@tweedle), RockinWatson (@rockinwatson), and ropedog (@ropedog)

This is probably the best looking game I've seen yet, the game itself is somewhat simplistic but still enjoyable for a leisurely play. Also some nice voice work done in this one.

Solar Snoop's Star Trek

While True Do - Phobos001 (@phobos001)

This one you don't get any description of, it's really a just play it and enjoy... you'll see what I mean.

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/while-true-do

While True Do

Cosmo Beat - Super Shark (@super-shark), evbo (@evbo), and zorsy (@zorsy)

Their description says it best "A rhythm shooter with an original soundtrack! Beat enemies to the beat!"

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/cosmo-beat

Cosmo Beat

My Game - mmason (@mmason), and Growlands (@growlands)

Feel free to also check out the game @growlands and I did, Zone Slayer. This is a NES era styled game about a robot trying to save the neighbourhood. Fair warning, it has tank controls.

It's a start

I've decided to with a mostly grey scale world with little bits of colour here and there. Not too bad for the first 6 hours. I'm trying to go with a very retro vibe.

Results, with Some Surprises

I don't usually post results, but after 10 Jams either as part of a team or by myself we finally achieved a score higher than 4.0, two in fact. Humor makes sense as we were going for that but we were surprised to see theme of all things.

This makes Philosophy on Rails: An Introduction to the Western Canon our best ranked game in most categories compared to our previous entries.
