There are still robot couples needing help with dating!

We got amazing response from players - having 34 ratings during the first day was something we did not expect. But the positive response got us off guard too, thank you people for trying out our game and giving constructive and positive feedback!

Even sporty bot loves the response, as you can see from the photo we took during his date last night!

But we still have a problem. There are still lonely bots trying to find a matching date. We know how robots are, they are bad at relationships.

HUMAN, GO HELP THEM!

Music that reacts to gameplay? We will do that every jam from now on!

🎶 Did your team compose a song or even a soundtrack to your game?

Our team was lucky to have a dedicated composer/sound designer. He composed a song for our game. Even if it is only 1 song, it is 3 songs in one! We use evolving music track that fades layering tracks in and out depending on the game state.

The implementation in Unity is very simple. Each of our track layers is 1:30 mins long. When the game starts, they will be all started together each as their AudioSource component. Then we use a very simple coroutine to fade tracks in and out during the game. audiosource-fade-2.png

It is very simple and nothing fancy but it does the trick we wanted to achieve. There are more efficient solutions out there but this way we never had to worry about track layers getting out of sync.

Want to see some ALIEN JUICE? Here are our learnings..

🧃 Did your team try to juice up your game?

Our team spent a lot of effort trying to make the game feel as good as possible. It was one of our goals even before we had a game idea in mind. The plan was to keep the game idea so simple that we would have plenty of time to juice it up before the deadline.

Here are things we learned during the jam.

1. Learn your options before the jam

Do some preparation and investigate how you would do basic game feel effects in your game engine. At least check possibilities to do screenshakes, particle effects and sounds. As a bonus you can consider using post processing effects (we did, and they look awesome!).

2. Plan and dedicate time for game feel

We had one team member who dedicated a majority of their jam time focusing on game feel. This is obviously easier when you are working on a team. If you are working alone, limit your scope and make sure you have time to juice up your game before the deadline.

3. Identify core actions of your game and focus on those

You will not gain a lot if you just attach screenshakes to everything and call it a day. Take a moment and think what is the core of your game that should be the fun part. Is it shooting enemies? Great, then make the player actually feel when their shots are hitting. Does your game have a leveling system? Ok, make the moment of leveling up feel like a burst of joy. You will not have to time do everything, so pick your battles and juice it up!

🧃 Here were the three main things our team learned about game feel during this jam. What did you learn? Share your thoughts and ideas in comments!

SUMMOGON is released!

ldjam_cover2.png

We did it, we finished the jam!

Each jam, our team wants to try something new. This year, it was adding voice acting to the game. We are exited to hear what you think about it!

The game is about finding an old deck of cards. And we don't know the rules of the game - that's where you come in!
