LD34

A map, a player, 2 themes

Bonsoir ! (from Paris)

I started this morning around 8 AM. I hope to make it for the compo this year o/

I’ll stick to the theme “Growth” and I try to make a decent rogue-like.

Here is a screen of the map generation:

Good luck to everyone and have fun o/

Compo progress

Hello everyone !

I added some content and now you can:

  • Fight enemies with Space (A)
  • Move around the floor with Arrow keys (LS)
  • Get coin
  • Get hit ! (You have 3 lives but there is no HUD for the moment)
  • Go to the next floor (yes there is no floor 2)
  • Two graphical themes (Earth and Fire)

The objectif is to find the path to the next floor and gather a maximum amount of coins !

http://youmapthe.world/Web.html <- UnityPlayer link (Works on Firefox and IE)

Next Task:  Add a shop at the start of each floor.

Have fun and give feeback if you want 😉

ReachTheTop: Post Mortem

Hi reader/gamer/everyone.

I wanted to share the experience of my second entry in a Ludum Dare compo (the
first one being for the 30 edition, last year, at the same time but in team).

What went wrong

  •  The themes. I was confused when the two themes where announced because I am a regular twitch spectator of Ludum Dare’s video and it is the first time I saw
this happening. So instead of restricting myself to both themes, I just throw one away (two button controls) although I saw great games these past two weeks that used well the combination of the two themes.
  • The preparation. I used Unity5 for the first time. Yet I should have premade some basecode and that was not the case. I could have concentrate more on content than coding.
  •  The scope. Like last year I targeted too many content (and you can feel it when playing the game).

What went right

  •  Wow, finally a _game_ from scratch made by myself. Felt so good !
  •  Worked all week-end, from 8 AM Saturday to 3 AM Monday with 12 hours of sleep (Paris timezone makes the Ludum Dare starts at 3 AM Saturday).
  •  Feedbacks were awsome! I decided to continue and make a post-compo version. I would love to keep it as a long-term project with constant updates.
Here’s a screenshot. (The graphics are either made by me or @TChassin)

Graphics rework

I’ll probably open a blog and post a roadmap for the post-compo game that I temporary called Adventures of Azimov.

So thanks to every friends and familly that supported me and of course to my
girlfriend who makes the best cannelés in the world :)

And if you haven’t play it yet, try my entry here.

Merry christmas and happy new year !

LD 38

I'm In!

I'll use Unity2017 as usual, Paint.NET/Krita and try to make an awesome game this weekend! I may stream on twitch too.

Check out http://nek0las.xyz to see if I'm streaming (and read my recently drawn comics)

If you want to talk about LD, do not hesitate to reach me @nek0las on twitter :)

Have fun coding you all!

1 Day and 17 hours to go: Let's do this

Good morning ! (From Paris, 10AM)

So, I stayed awake until 3AM to see the theme announcement. Then I brainstormed until 4h30AM. With the help of a nice stream viewer, I decided to focus on one cool mechanic and polish it:

1 shot fired = -1HP for the player

The other execpted main feature is:

With another weapon, a parry/last hit, heals you 1 HP.

I would love to make a metroidvania (I saw lots of them in the past, but never actually tried to make one myself). If I have time, ofc :p

Good luck, HF all!

Ludum Dare 45

LD45 here we go !

At first the theme really makes me wonder if we would participate this time around... but we kept brainstorming on different ideas and finally we ran with it ! Yes, it is a broad theme we would have loved a more specific one, but this is also the charm of Ludum Dare: you don't know what you'll get, and you have to make the most of it in 48(72)hours !

We end up going for a Kingdom inspired game about a dude washed ashore on a, not so desert, island with his crewmate. You have to rebuild your ship from nothing !

Here is the whole brainstorming result and our progress tracker: https://www.notion.so/nicobarray/Ludum-Dare-45-Start-with-Nothing-12f32c30585c4b1eb006e19bba739d42

I'll do the programming in Unity with C# (twitter: @nicobarray) And this time, I'll be joined by bakablue, mostly doing the graphics with Krita and a XP-PEN tablet, and some programming if we need to add extra workforce on it 💪 (twitter: @bakablue)

Keep motivated and good luck everyone !
