Hoping To Compete

Coming off the fun of Pyweek (i made robosub), i really want to dig in a bit more into pyglet and build something alot more fun (robosub was definitely booooring, i admit it!). That being said, so much going on, so i am doubtful i will get the time to hack, but i figure i might as well join up in the case that i do end up with a big chunk of time and a laptop!

The Minimizing knight

Ok, its a quite a stretch, but when playing with Chipmunk over the last 2 days, i have arrived at some strange form of Knightly bowling. “Minimize” the “castles” with your brutal morning stars.. the fewer balls used the better you did! It really is barely more than a physics demo. i just didn’t have the time i wanted.in game screen

Argh, Knights!

Updated!!

Download it for Windows.. Only needs Python2.5

(py2exe version coming Monday)

Download it

ok, time to go surfing

I’m in (I hope)

I am hoping to have time to get something out there. Minimalism will be the key!

craftyjs setup, now i need a concept

I am going to use Crafy (http://craftyjs.com/). Just playing around at the start i found a nice “beneath the surface” property of combining a floor and the “fourway” input controls.

My entry will be massaged into readiness here:

Now to ponder how to make a game from this..

I’m In

Now time to brainstorm. One room .. escape theme?

  • Engine: Crafty.js
  • Graphics: Blender & Gimp
  • Audio: Garageband, maybe python midi lib
  • Sounds: Audacity

Dug into GDX a bit, but I think I am going to stick to Crafty.js and focus on gameplay!

Good Luck to all, here’s to hoping i finish!

I have room

Put the kids to bed

Blank stare at screen and eat snacks

Room with obstacles

Hopefully sleep will bring more ideas (and less haiku)

Prototype - Sacrifice some sheep to avoid the big bad wolf

Ok, here is a first thought. You chase the sheep around with bolts of lightning (for now a click that they run from) to keep them away from the big bad wolf. Outlast him with minimal losses to win!

Mary had a sacrificial lamb

You are Mary, the God of Thunder, and you must frighten your little sheep away from the Big Bad Wolf with bolts of lightning. Beware, zap too close and you might zap one of your little darling lambs! Some might have to be sacrificed for the good of the many!

TODO - 1. More Fun, 2. More Baaaing and Wolf snickers, and 3. Intro screen and rounds

Web Game!

I think I am going to go back to doing a web game this time. Either three.js or crafty.js or just raw JS.

First steps

We are thinking we are going to have a racing / mario-kart style game where you start with nothing, and have to pick up items, and as you gather them in your trailer you slow down, but get a bonus.

Original plan was to use Unreal, but it is a bit slow to work with, so we are falling back to Godot for now.

Critical Features: 1. PVP Splitscreen - yeah there are two of us, we are hanging IRL, we need some serious split screen fun 2. awesome vehicle mechanics - needs to feel fun 3. joystick support 4. decent vehicle effects (tread marks, etc)

Progress! Split Screen Kart Racing!

We made some significant progress today, despite a day-trip to the Hoover dam (we are IRL in vegas).

The game is shaping up to be a mario-kart inspired racer where you pick up blobs, and they increase your mass (you start with nothing..), and then you get a bit more unwieldy, but you get to cash those in for reductions on your lap time, so it is a trade-off to manage.

Hopefully we fold in a couple goodies like banana peels ,etc!

Initial playable game and backstory!

You are a fearless baby delivering Snaglurk on Zorgon 54, and you must brave Z54’s noxious environment despite never getting a raise from the ruthless corporate overlord Beff Jezos. Flap your Kraal to stay above the lower frothing layers of acid, but don’t flap too high to get irradiated by the cosmic rays. Yet in our precious habitable zone there still are giant floating clouds of toxic gas that you must dodge!

Currently requires some imagination!

Learning Unity3d along the way!

Three.js Pre-Jam Warmup

Working on getting three.js and cannon.js flowing. Going homebrew web engine again this go round with @kevin-mooney :vulcan:

https://blocks.nikolaj.dev/

Work In Progress! Playable web game prototype!

Ok, so our concept is that you are a ship stuck in a Space loop, and you have to get out of each successful loop to escape. Dodge the bad stuff (pink) and pick up the good stuff (green) to progress through the loops to your escape.

Should work on mobile, although better in landscape. Also works on PC, iPad, etc, as it is a Web Game

Made with THREE.js and CANNON.js, etc. Music by kevin (teammate), ship from Kenney.nl (Thanks!)

A long time ago in a game compo far far away...

I made a game called RoboSub for Pyweek 6 in 2008.. kindof feels applicable for this theme

..but of course gonna do something new.

Mourning the loss of Sky Pirates...

But, maybe I can use Sky Pirates for any of these themes

Mutation: Sky Pirates that mutate into slug pirates if they get too close to clouds!

Tunnels: Sky Pirate racing game barn storming some tunnels in a giant rock island

Overgrown: Sky Pirates battle giant venus flytrap island to get the gold

Garden: Sky Pirates growing food on their flying fortress blimp!

The Sky Pirates Warmup..

Since Sky Pirates is no longer a choice.. but I was still craving an excuse to make a little triplane and fly it around in Godot...

Theme selection is again ..surprising

I would love to see a histogram of theme votes to see how this theme climbed to the top!

Anyway, Javascript is our tool of choice.. so let's do this!

setInterval(()=>spawnEnemy(),10000)

Edit: as noted by @patrick-premartin a histogram was posted by Mike on Twitter: https://twitter.com/mikekasprzak/status/1575969839847350272

Initial Concept

We did some initial concepting, and settled for now on a variant of a tower-defense game, where you manage gnome-producing mushroom houses that can build different types of worker-gnomes .. every 10 seconds .. to defend the forest from the mean bulldozers... it's a concept in the making

Platform choice right now is Javascript/React-Three-Fiber/BitECS.. so just getting the basic threads together!

Watch progress here [https://ld51.nikolaj.dev] !
