I’m In

This is my first Ludum Dare and I’m excited.  I am not sure if I am using Python and PyGame, or Godot and GDScript (Godot’s scripting language,  It’s a lot like Python).

I plan on using:

  • OS: Windows 7
  • Programming Language: Python/GDScript
  • IDE/Engine: Pycharm/Godot
  • Graphics: Paint.net
  • Audio: I’ll worry about that if I get there but probably sfxr and SunVox

Finished my game Vine a while ago…

I finished my game and posted it around 6:15, but had to hurry away before I could write a proper finishing post.  Anyway, this was my first Ludum Dare and I think it went pretty well.  I was not able to work on it as much as I wanted but still ended up with a finished playable game so I am happy.

My game is Vine.  It attempts to show what it is like to live the life of a Vine.  Finding water, getting sunlight, and avoiding other animals, using only two buttons to move your vine.

Link to my game.

I would love feedback on my game, especially as this is my first time.  I look forward to playing everyone else’s game as well, and good luck to those still doing the Jam.

A lot of Fun

Hey guys,  seeing as this was my first Ludum Dare it was a fun experience.  I was able to finish a game in the compo, and actually enjoyed the theme even though it thought I wouldn’t at first.  I did learn a few things in the process, especially the importance of looking over my games zip file before I submit it.  I accidentally disabled the tutorial and sound.  In any case, it was a great time.  I have also enjoyed looking over peoples games and playing them.  It is amazing what people can do in 48 and 72 hours.  I just wanted to say congrats to everyone who submitted a game.

Finished!!

Hey guys!

This is my second Ludum Dare, and sadly I had a pretty busy weekend so I was not able to work on my game as much as I wanted.  Nevertheless, I believe that I was able to create a pretty fun game (with crappy music).

The premise of my game is that you have to match shape outlines that enter the screen by changing the properties of your shape.

Here is a picture:

stuff

Your shape is the green one.  To match a shape you move your shape over the corresponding shape outline.

Anyway, I can’t wait to try out everyone’s games and I hope that you guys enjoy mine.  If you want to try it click here.

Post Mortem – Shape Shift

This was my second Ludum Dare, and I really enjoyed it.  My game turned out way better than my last attempt.

I may have taken the theme to literally and actually created a game where you change the properties of the shapes and match them with other shapes.

shapeShift

I learned quite a bit from this experience, such as the importance of messy code, but also the importance of a user friendly interface.  My menu is admittedly a tad messy, and after receiving several complaints about usability I added the option to click on menu items with the mouse.  Hopefully this helps.

I hope to continue this game and have posted it to itch.io here: https://paradxil.itch.io/shape-shift

Five Star Hotel

Despite going to a wedding and an early Christmas party this weekend I managed to find time to make a game: Five Star Hotel.

Premise:

You are running a hotel with only one room. Get your room to all the guests to keep them happy, and don’t forget to give the king extra room time! If you don’t get the room to a guest in time, they will leave and your rating will drop! Survive the fast paced chaos of running a hotel for 30 days, and see how many stars you can keep, if any at all! Lose all your stars… and its game over!

Available on: Android (via Google Play), Windows, and Online.
