Looking for an artist

Hi guys, I’m a Java programmer and I’m looking for a PIXEL (why? I want this game to be something like the old-school games from the 80th, the old 8-bit games)聽artist for Ludum Dare 34, if you are a pixel artist and you want to help me out, write down your e-mail in the comments 馃榾 I’ll really appreciate it.

I鈥檓 in, one more time this year :D

Hey guys, If you are reading this now, you are going to learn about my plans for the next Ludum Dare, which is going to be the 34th Ludum Dare, so far.

So I’ll get up at 3am (the LD jam starts at 4am, but I need at least 1 cup of coffee) in the morning and that sucks. Then I’ll聽start creating and setting up the projects (the game core, client and server), if I’m doing a multiplayer game, otherwise I’ll just create a project and start coding.

And just because I’m lazy and I don’t want to type anymore I’ll put the other things in a list:

  • Coding, coding and coding…
  • Adding some sprites, textures
  • Some sleeping
  • Going outside with friends for 2-6 hours
  • Then coding as fast as I can, skipping one night
  • Thinking how terrible my game is
  • And submitting it in the last 5-10 minutes

Tools I’m going to use:

  • Eclipse : as Java IDE
  • Java : as programming language
  • Paint.NET : as image editor
  • Blender (if I’m creating a 3D game) : as 3D modeling tool
  • LWJGL聽(if I’m creating a 3D game) : as Java OpenGL library
  • Bfxr : as sound effects generator
  • Chronolapse (maybe, with ‘maybe’, I mean around 15% chance to use it) :聽find info here

That’s what I’m doing during a LD jam!

Good luck, everyone 馃榾 And don’t forget the rule: “Just have fun!”

How did you learn to program in Java?

TheNewBoston’s tutorials are actually pretty good, you can try them, but when it comes to game programming try watching TheChernoProject. 馃榾

Two posibilities?

I want to ask you, what do you prefer, to create a multiplayer game, or singleplayer game. And I’m asking just because I haven’t done a multiplayer before (now I’m working on a multiplayer game), and I want to know, is it worth to risk with multiplayer??? 馃榾 Write your answer in the comments below.

Thanks in advance.

Hmm, for a Jam. No. It’s not worth it. It’s painfully slow to test and run.

There are upsides and downsides to doing a multiplayer game for a jam, here are some major factors i’d consider when thinking about doing a multiplayer jam game

Single for ludum then make it multi 馃榾

If you have spare time try making it multi but have a backup

Don’t go for multi (not during the dare). People will be unable to find partners to play your game. If you are highly determined to do multi always make option of playing with bots.

(Big) Progress!

Nice intro screen, don’t you think. We’ve made the text to be animated, but we cannot show you on a plain png file :D, hope you like it.

Commit: Added some more features

After our second day, we got almost our game finished. Amy managed to handle every request from me :D. And we got this, it’s kind of an endless runner (platformer)!

P.S.: Added screenshot taking feature, just press Up.

Growing Ice, finally released!

After around 2 days, me and Amy finally managed to complete our game and post it on itch.io and Ludum Dare as jam entry.

Click here to visit it, and hope you enjoy it. 馃榾
