Working on some bits

Some of the stuff I’ve been working on this morning. :)

Mock up
Explosion
Music

Don’t really have a proper idea yet, hence why I’m spending all my time on music and tiles..

You, good sir, are an awesome artist.

Very nice art so far

Got my tiles all ready on a grid!

Also I mispelt my music link last time woops: here

Still need to do some kind of pick ups and other stuff, but I need to get on with actually coding now!

edit: forgot to mention, I’ve re-jigged my 16 colour palette, as I needed a proper skin tone for the large scale hand graphics. I dropped grey for it, replacing the greys with light blue. Also meant I could brighten up the yellow a bit as it’s not being shared with skin-tones any more.

So happy I finished this!
It’s my first Ludum Dare, tho I’ve wanted to enter for a while. I’m on a new PC, so I had to download a lot of tools during the contest, which was quite annoying. Other things I’d do next time are:

  • Get food in the house first! I survived on eggs and toast alone :(
  • Plan tasks before starting
  • Get a good idea?

I started off with few ideas, and hoped if I made a game jumping from island to island I could expand upon the theme a bit. I expanded on the game play, but the island theme itself was never explored any further, which is a little disappointing.

I’m glad I managed to do a title screen and music (first music I’ve done for a looong time), and the game has a sort of ending. I managed to work quite quickly as I stuck to a low resolution and only 16 colours. It’s a palette I’m quite used to, but I had to make some adjustments to add a skin tone in half way through drawing.

Off for some much needed sleep now!

MiniLD #19 London meet?

Myself and Nora Shishi are gonna do our MiniLD19 projects at my flat in East London, if there’s anyone semi-local that’d like to join in, it might be a little more social and fun / less lonely and cabin-fevery! Let me know if you’re interested. (Spare table, wifi etc).

Knock-Off Toy Factory

Inspired by Chinese knock off toys I’ve decided to make a knock-off toy factory puzzle game. Here’s some of the assets so far:
Knock-Off Toy Factory

It’ll probably be a fairly basic standard gem-drop type puzzle game, but I’m racking my brains for play ideas to make it more interesting right now.

it looks good so far 😀

and im so far ahead, is that bad?

Finished!

Super Knock-Off Factory is done!

I’m so happy!
Super Knock-Off Factory

This was much harder than I anticipated, so I’m glad I got my head around the game logic in the end. It was also depressingly not fun until I reworked it a little right at the end.

Well, hope you like it anyway. :)

edit: Tweaked the randomiser very slightly, to force it to give you feet when the tubes are empty (so you always start with something you can drop).

Just my opinion, but you should make it so the boxes fall down the chute of the highlighted area, not block it off. Also, the nature of the game makes getting a match take forever. Other than that, good game. Very polished and nice to look at.

Looking good.
14. Jun 2010 · 20:33 UTC
Damn it that’s hard! I scored around 600 points or so by sheer luck of getting three total knock-offs. Basically though, the game is a long grind when you wait for suitable pieces, and then at some point it actually gets impossible because you can’t keep up with changing the blockers. I think I actually got to a point where I absolutely couldn’t block fast enough because the space between two boxes was the same as the space between the chutes.
14. Jun 2010 · 20:34 UTC
The game is real purdy though. One thing the visuals could use though is to have the different toys have very clearly different pieces so that they’re instantly recognisable as a whole, and especially to make mismatches really look like mismatches.

Hey, this is really cool. It really has an arcade feel to it.

Yeahhh I’m in

I really should be resting now, but I’ve finished my work so I can participate in LD18!

I intend to use

MMF2,
MadTracker2
and Photoshop CS2!
(All the twos).

Good luck all!

wow, awesome style!

unfinished playable :3

Unfortunately I couldn’t get any time off work so I had to cut my dev time a little short. I’m hoping to work on it a bit tomorrow for the Jam, but for now, this is all I have – it’s very nearly a game! To be added: sfx, lives, game over, and some other tweaks.

Arrow keys – left/right/up. Avoid bad things and collect strawberries. The bull kills the ghosts/you (don’t worry it kind of makes sense in-game!)

Any feed back welcome!

Wow, very well done graphics and animations and the gameplay is not bad at all, it just lacks content.
23. Aug 2010 · 10:49 UTC
Holy crap, this is great! I didn’t expect anything this finished or polished, it’s a shame you couldn’t quite wrap it up. Really clever gameplay take on the theme too. Congratulations!

The animation is awesome! Very polished. I particularly like the ghosts :)

JAM!

MARBULL

Yeah I ‘finished’ in time for the Jam! (Okay so I just tacked on lives/game over, and avoided all polish I’d hoped to add, but it’s fully playable now!)

I hope you enjoy it :)

Statement of Intent!

Been working a few hours now with partner – our idea’s not 100% solid, but we’re hoping to do a platformer with NPC dialogue.

Themes:
True Love/Tainted Love

Limitations:
1 button input only
(cheating with mouse I guess – or maybe ignoring all together!)

Rules:
Work with a partner
Wear nothing whilst making the entire game, upload webcam timelapse to amateur porn site when done.

Some painted background (tile-less!) probably be too difficult but I’ll try!

Girlfriend’s currently working on the NPC close up artwork, but she doesn’t want to show yet.

Whoa, great job with the graphics!

Booty Call finished!

Booty Call title screen!

So happy we managed to finish! Definitely my most ambitious LD game yet, makes such a difference working with a partner, although we did argue on game direction a bit (I was convinced we wouldn’t have time to have dialogue, she was convinced I couldn’t paint the background in time)! We both got our way in the end.

Happy Valentine’s day!

Sadly my compy is too slow for the game, but backgrounds are great, and amazing music! Any chance to get a linky to a separate file?

LD20

Ready!

So I’m in Cambridge to LD with the CB2 folk! I took a photo, but I left my camera at someone’s house so I’ll post it tomorrow.

I’ll be using:

MMF2 with SWF plugin for the coding
Photoshop CS2 for the art
MadTracker2 for the audio

All these software have 2 at the end – I’m assuming that’s lucky. Good luck everyone!
Rik

Started!

Gung Jai Mihn
Animating 8 directions is quite hard, so glad to get this out of the way!

My idea’s to be a Take Away (‘take out’ for Americans) delivery service to deliver needed items to adventurers, so I based my player character on the Nissin Noodles delivery boy. Reference.

Time out

There’s now no real chance of anything complete enough to submit. :( But here’s a screenshot of how it looks now:
screen

Also:

Might have it done for the Jam! If I’m not in a coma anyway.

Despite being quite disappointed making less progress than usual, I’ve had a good time and met some really cool people this Ludum Dare, so I’m still quite happy overall!

LD21

Givng up! :(

Giving up, but thought I’d let you all see my progress:

Best of luck with your own entries!
