I’m in!

This will be my first Ludum Dare entry, I’ve been on the site for about a year now just following updates and such so this should be a good way to get involved; I’ve always been meaning to enter but I just felt I hadn’t enough experience at the previous times. That has changed now and I am ready to win! (not win but try to make a decent game in 48 hours!)

Language: Java

IDE: Eclipse

Libraries: None

Sound: Audacity, sfxr

Graphics: GIMP

Bring it! 😛

P.S: Does anyone know how to change your display picture?

(Lack of) Productivity

The one day that I have spent working on my game has been practically wasted as I encountered an annoying Java bug in my engine. I will therefore have to put in a lot of work today if I plan to get this game finished on time; my concept isn’t too difficult and so it shouldn’t take too long to code and create graphics for and add a simple story that I have visualised.

Things look bad, no matter, I’m still determined to complete this game within the remaining time.

Stupid gravity (forfeit blog)

Well there is no way I will be able to finish my game in time for the deadline. I had a nice idea but it probably wasn’t such a good idea to plan on making a platformer within 48 hours with no previous knowledge on creating an engine that supports gravity.

Over the course of the next three months I will perfect my gravity code and will therefore be prepared to enter the next Ludum Dare!

Insert Generic “I’m in!” Post Here:

Hey guys, this will be my first Ludum Dare that I even have a chance of completing! However I will be away on holiday for the duration of the Compo so the only thing I have to code with is my old crappy laptop (or “craptop” for short). I’m still going to try my hardest even if my game isn’t the greatest ever. I just want to be able t0 complete it! 😀

Anyway, rant over:

I will be using:

  • Java with Libgdx framework.
  • Eclipse as my IDE of choice.
  • LMMS for music.
  • sfxr / bfxr for sound effects.
  • A weird combination of GIMP and Paint.NET for art.
  • Basshunter to get me through the 48 hours.

See you guys on the other side and good luck to every one of you! May the best man/woman/machine win! 😀

I’m In!

This year’s going to be the year. I’ve been working on some apps recently so feel ready to enter and finish a game this time!

  • Language: Java
  • Library: LibGDX
  • IDE: Eclipse
  • Art: GIMP
  • Sounds: SFXR
  • Music: Autotracker most likely

Good luck everyone! :)

Overgrow!

Meet Blossom, a plant content with devouring the planet!

This is the result of probably 5 hours work, next up, enemies and level completion! 😀

I’m in!

Hey there everyone! This will be my second Ludum Dare, with my being 34. Whether or not this is a great idea will soon become apparent but for the past three weeks I’ve been non-stop working on uni coursework which is deadlined for tonight. So I’ll be straight out of the frying pan and into the fire, but in true Ludum Dare fashion would we really have it any other way?

Anyway, my tools will be as follows:

  • Java using LibGDX on good old Eclipse
  • Github for version control
  • GIMP, Photoshop and the occasional PAINT for graphics
  • Sfxr for sound effects
  • Fruityloops for music (possibly)

So good luck everyone, and I hope you all have a fantastic 48 / 72 hours!

First day over, happy progress! :)

So the first day of Ludum Dare’s officially over and it’s my first time making a platformer! I’m really happy with the progress so far, for the minimal amount of gameplay all I have left to do is add a cat that gets a box dropped on its head when you press the button, then you’ll crawl up inside it and burst out with legs!

Happy game jamming everyone!

The Creation

So I managed to complete my entry, and although it wasn’t as long and detailed as I’d have liked I’m still super happy with the end result! It’s my first attempt at a “platformer” and the physics work perfectly for the most part so I’m really pleased with that.

It was also an experience on producing my own semi-detailed pixel animations which I feel I’m getting a better grasp of now, especially during the animation where the cat kills you.

Finally sound effects; I’ve never made my own before and have always relied on generated or open source sound effects, and bashing the keys to my flat against my radiator for that perfect ‘dink’ sound may well have been the highlight of my 48 hours!

So with all that being said, congratulations to everyone who submitted, to everyone who’s working, and to everyone who attempted and I’ll see all you guys in the ratings!

Long Way Down…

So I should probably add some stairs 😀

Hope everything’s going well for you all! Make sure to eat badly and drink poorly, so I have more chance to win! 😀

Now We’re Getting Somewhere!

With just a few hours left of the first day (before going out drinking) I’m pretty happy with the progress I’ve got so far! Only a few things left to draw and a few simple things left to code! Hopefully everyone else is having a great time too! Keep at it! :)

All’s Well That Ends Well! (Except for this scientist guy)

Well that’s the end of another compo! I’m pretty happy with what I got done, my first one-point perspective drawing and more good animations than I’ve done before!

I hope everything’s gone well for you all too, and that you get some well deserved rest now after all that! (Unlike me!)

Thanks for another eventful Ludum Dare, good luck with the judging! :)
