Update and Goodnight from the SeaDads

Day one is over here in Australia! Today after some long morning discussions, both myself and @DuzzOnDrums went to work, getting busy coding up the scene setup, controls and animations and are pretty happy with the basic loop and progress so far.

And here’s a concept from earlier in the day by @gavku who is now starting to do more final artwork and poses!

Good night and god speed fellow jammers!

End of Day Two!

So today we did a first pass on implementing the awesome art @gavku has been churning out and I think shows the great progress we’ve made when viewed next to yesterdays progress gif!

@DuzzOnDrums did a rework on the “Frankys Hand” controls and added a pretty neat “snapshot/polaroid” effect when you make a successful pat, while I spent most of my day trying to keep up with the deluge of assets and effects were trying to jam into the game and also figuring out if we could use Unitys WebGL to distribute the game (probably not).

And we also got some great vocals and music to implement from @YeOldShrimpEyes and @SunraHeadgear/@ToiletChildren respectively!

Good night all and happy jamming!

We’re in! End of “first day” progress

So finally finished our “First day”, which was actually our second day, but the real first day we instead decided to have a big BBQ together and drink far too much.

Our members this year (so far) are just Jon (Twitter) and Dave (Twitter).

We made a pretty hasty decision to just start working on one of our early ideas which was a sort of snake like control scheme with a constantly growing body. Dave sketched up a few theme ideas to get the ball rolling!

For further snake homage, we decided to then maybe do the art style in a proper nokia snake retro style so Dave did this quick SeaDads logo.

And here’s a gif of the gameplay prototyped so far…

We’ll see what we can do to finish this Jam out for the last day, hoping to start getting more art groove in and improving the obstacle generation on the code side!

Ludum Dare 37

SHUT UP AND SLAM JAM Karate Basketball

Another LD down, what a ride! We made a NBA Jam style game with fly-kicks!

I’m really glad we got to make a sports game, it’s been on my list of things to try making since playing Tennes, and heightened by seeing Dan Marshall tweeting about Kickmen. They seemed like the sort of gameplay that’d be really fun to code. And it was too! Although boy I’m exhausted now. It’s probably the most complicated LD we’ve done from the programming side, with AI and whotnot, (it’s bugged all to hell i’m sure), but learned heaps, and so I’m pumped by how it turned out.

Anyway, if you like dunks and kicks, go have a play!
