Steve

Long time listener, first time caller….or something like that. Anyways finally decided to take the plunge. I’ve always loved creating games, but this strict deadline is rather a first regarding that so let’s see what happens! Nothing bad can happen, right……right? Crash and burn or rise to the occasion. One man, one theme, one game…..oh right, get on with it then.

List of lists: (because an unlisted list should never be left unlisted)

  • Language -> Java
  • IDE -> Eclipse
  • Graphics -> SAI
  • Sound Effects -> sfxr
  • Sanity -> long gone

Enjoy the madness that ensues and best of luck to all!

And they’re off!

Huh, who knew. I bet many were suspecting (hoping) that “End of the World” theme would win. Either way, I have my game idea and a work plan set out. Time to start working! (At 4:30 AM mind you :P)

Update of the Status Kind

Hi everyone! Hope you’re having fun and still surviving out there. It’s almost the end of day 1 (for my timezone at least) and I just wanna post a quick status update.

I managed to stick to my schedule and my game is basically done. It just needs a good coat of wax and polish before it’s ready to release. Maybe I’ll add a couple of nifty thinga-majigers as well. I’ll see you all again tomorrow!

Oh and uhm….I’ll……I’ll just leave this here:

Aaaaaaand done.

Phew, that was intense! First Ludum Dare entry and I had so much fun 😀

You can play my entry here:

First order of business: rest. Then I’ll see about doing a post-mortem. Good luck to all those that still need to finish!

Late Start

I wasn’t too sure if I wanted to join or not and I had trouble thinking of an idea for the theme, but an idea finally hit me and so I’m in.

  • Language -> Java
  • IDE -> Eclipse
  • Framework -> libgdx
  • Graphics -> MS Paint + SAI
  • Sound Effects -> sfxr

Time’s almost up

It’s horrible, don’t look at it!

Well everything is mostly functional now, all that is left is that important polish. I’m not sure if this game is fun to play though and it’s going to need some balancing. Onwards!

Finished!

Well it was a really late start, but I managed to finish.

I’m not too fond of the art, but it will suffice. I’m also a bit concerned that it might be difficult to get the mechanics, but hopefully the help page is clear enough. Otherwise I’m quite happy with the results, I was able to fully implement the idea I had. Maybe I’ll work on this more in future, flesh it out and add some new mechanics. For now, it’s way too late and I’m way too tired. Good luck to all those still finishing up!

Here goes!

Right so for this Ludum Dare I’m going to go for the jam. I’ll be joined by my friend who will be helping in the coding and then also by Qrchack who will provide all the delicious audio for us.

Tools of the trade:

  • Coding: Java, Libgdx, Eclipse
  • Art: SAI, Flash
  • Music: Qrchack’s choice (link)

Good luck to all!

Concerning Free Assets

Do the Jam rules allow for use of free fonts that are available for personal use but not for commercial use without a license?

For example a font from http://www.1001freefonts.com/

yes, fonts are allowed. If the font says it is only for personal use, it is only for PERSONAL use, i.e. you can’t publish it. If it says Public Domain or CC0 or 100%, you can use it. If it says free for non-commercial use, you can use it only if you don’t make money.

Phew glad that’s done. Finished my jam entry and had a blast with it!

Go play it!

I’m really glad with how it turned out. The art was really fun to make and the music sounds great. Gonna definitely try and make more games using similar assets.

Good luck to all those crunching away during those final hours!

This “in” thing

Originally I didn’t plan on joining this Ludum Dare due to time constraints (familial obligations and such), but after seeing the theme this morning I got an idea that I’m really excited about and so I’m going to give it a go. I’m going to be keeping the game assets to a minimum and focus mainly on the content instead to be able to finish on time for the compo.

  • Coding: Java, Libgdx, Eclipse
  • Art: SAI, Wacom Bamboo
  • Audio: Searching the web for free sound effects

“Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more”

Ludum Dare 37

Possibly in? (Interested in collab)

I’m always up for a good Ludum Dare, but lately I’m more interested in teaming up with others (working by yourself can only get you so far). My current Ludum Dare record stands at 3-for-3. I’ve completed 3 events (which can be found here: Shameless Plug) and attempted 3 which didn’t go anywhere due to familial obligations preventing me from finishing, partners dropping out or fatigue from daily work taking its toll.

Programming is what I’m best at, so if there are any 2D artists out there interested in joining up with someone, hit me up. I’ll use my normal range of tools of Java and libgdx.
