I’m in

Looks like i’m in for this weekend.  This is my first LD some i’m psyched about it.

Here’s what I plan to use.

IDE: Visual Studio 2012
Graphics Lib: XNA 4
Language: C#
Graphics: Paint.Net / Gimp / GraphicsGale
Audio: SFXR

Can’t wait to get started. 😀

Have a concept and ready to roll

I have a concept ready and now am working on a quick design document.

The game will be a platformer / metroidvania.  As you progress through the game, there will be obstacles and challenges that will hinder the player.
The player then will be able to open portals or rips in the current reality to reveal various parallel dimensions.
The player will collect various items that will allow them to open various dimensions, such as hell worlds, heaven, water worlds, rocky worlds, forest worlds, and worlds that dilate time.
So one idea was the player would come across a river and then open a hell world and bring a lava flow to quench the river.
Another idea was that something is falling fast at the player, and they could open a rip to where time slows down near the rip.

Little bit ambitious at the moment, but will trim down some of the dimensions to make it in the time limit.

We have progress

Took a bit longer to get base engine running but I have a good base now that is working well.

So now I have the basics, some tiles on the screen and a player.

I do have a bug in my input manager for gamepads I have to figure out next, but at least keyboard is working correctly.

Cool concept. I like how you are not taking the topic literally but more like “there is more than just what you can see” Or something like that.

Morning progress

Got some sleep and continuing work on Altered Realities this morning.

Got some basic UI elements done and working, and can move the character around the screen now.
I did encounter a bug with my gamepad input not working correctly but can fix that later.

I also finished up some concept art for the player character.  Very quick sketch but gets the idea across.

Have some stuff to do with kids today, but all other time is being devoted to progress. 😀

24 Hour progress

Well 24 hours have passed and not super far a long, but worked out a bunch of bugs and issues.
Still have one issue lingering with collisions and the player being able to run through walls, but will figure that out soon enough.

I did get some basic animations in, and updated some of the sprites.
I also got the map scrolling working.

Tonight will be the time to knock out a bunch of mechanics.

Day 2 Morning Progress

Well I’m significantly behind the curve this morning, but i’m not out.
Had a major bug last night with collision detection that only allowed me to land on platforms, but allowed the player to run through walls.
After some sleep and looking at the code again, I fixed it within 30 minutes.

So this set back in time was bad, but now i’m at least able to move forward.

So time to crack down and bust out some code.

Continual progress

Well things are still progressing, but I don’t think I’ll make the 48 hour deadline.  So I may push things over to the Jam instead.
Things are starting to come together nicely, and just whittling through my checklists now.

Uploaded a video to show off things better.  Got some sound effects going now, and some reactive sounds for when the player falls off stuff.

We’re in for a second round

This is my second attempt and will be doing the 72-hour with my daughter this time.

I plan to use C#/Monogame for my code base, Visual Studio for my IDE, Paint.Net for graphics, and Sfxr for audio along with a Midi keyboard I just got recently for music.

Hopefully we will be able to get something done in time this time.

Can’t wait for things to start.

Slow start

We had a slow start, but got our site up and running with our base structure set.

Also have our first graphics on screen.  Nothing spectacular yet, but we are moving forward now.

Work continues

Well things are rolling along smoothly.  We have our design document together and have a good idea what needs to be done.  I made some temporary graphics and animations for us to use and now things are starting to come together.

No real gameplay as of yet, mostly just tech but now I can move onto some gameplay elements.

I'm in

I'm in. Hopefully will get enough time this time around to actually finishing a game. At least one of my daughters will be working with me as well this time. Can't wait to get started. :D
