my first ludum dare!

I’m doing the jam.  My kids and I are going to work all weekend and see what we can come up with.  I’m very excited.  I’ve had a game idea on my back burner and I hope this challenge will kickstart that effort.

The viking fling game

It took my kids and I a while to come up with the proper “fling” mechanic for getting a satisfactory viking toss.  You don’t want it too heavy or too light.

I’m in

My kids and my exchange student and his sister are going to make a game.  This will be our 4th Ludume dare.  We are very excited.

new team assembled and we created a game for the pre-game Ludum Dare 35

Just got a new team together, and while they have never worked on a game before, I think they produced some solid work in half a weekend.  We are all pretty stoked about this weekend.  Here’s what we did:

(Unity web game, so works well in Firefox/IE).

Here’s what we work in:

  • Unity5
  • Photoshop/GIMP

any advice on Unity5 WebGL?

I’ve been pushing my games out for the last 3 dares using the Unity web player, but with that now having limited support and going away, I decided to upgrade to Unity5 and try WebGL.  However, that looks like it only just works in Firefox.  At least couldn’t get it to work in Chrome and Opera.  Just sits on the loading screen.  I would have thought that with HTML5 and WebGL, the good thing would be that you don’t have to beg your user to download a plugin, and that it would just work smoothly.  Anyone run into this before?

In Chrome, you may be able to get more information by pressing ctrl-shift-i or command-shift-i in the tab with Unity running and then clicking on the “console” tab.

Happened for me as well, try adding whatever game it is to your collection, and then downloading through the app

Thanks, Delta. downloading through which app? I am just using firefox since it is a web game.

Walk through of “It’s just a Phase” — plays quickly in a web browser, 8 fun filled minutes of gaming fun.

Hello fellow Ludum Dare people.  I made a walk through of our game and posted it to youtube.  Our game is a Unity web game (plays in Firefox), downloads fast since I use my own site, and you can play through it in under 8 minutes and has an ending!  And it is a lot of fun.  I made the walk through for the more difficult parts of the jungle and lava levels.

Molpe the first Siren has been doing some videos of some of our games

She is funny to watch as she energetically describes everything as she experiences them.  It is kind of gold for game developers.

How to form teams?

Can someone help me find how to form a team on ldjam.com? I can't seem to find where to add friends.

Retrospective ...and our game is finally classified correctly as an HTML5 game

ezgif.com-optimize.gif Our entry: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/planets-of-zoltcon

Retrospective

We got the orbital mechanics working...and I put in the magic "HTML5" keyword in the description so it is now correctly classified.

We learned that having an orbital mechanics AND individual levels is a ...bit to much for a 72 hour game. We should have just stuck with an orbital mechanics game...which was hard enough. So, scope was a problem. No surprise there. Also the tutorial which I placed in the latest version really should have been part of the astronauts first journey to a planet. However I have a lot going on in my life right now so we settled for a slide show. In the future that needs to be given more priority with less given to doing more levels.

Also the web version is working better than the windows exe. The windows exe seems to have problems with the player's spawn point not scaling all the time when the planet shrinks, so you end up spawning outside the planet. Need to get that worked on.

What if the little prince* could jump from asteroid to asteroid?

ezgif.com-optimize.gif https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/planets-of-zoltcon

You can find out in this WebGL game. You are an astronaut and you rely on orbital mechanics to jump from planet to planet trying to find out why they are shrinking. Play the latest version: http://ludum.daretogame.net/zoltcon/

*substitute astronaut for the little prince.

Plea for votes. I just need 4 more

ezgif.com-optimize.gif https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/planets-of-zoltcon

I just need 4 more votes in order to get ranked. This is a WebGL HTML game with about 10 minutes of play time if you make a beeline for the artifacts. Here's the latest version: http://ludum.daretogame.net/zoltcon/

Thank you! We are over 20 votes now!
