Ludum Challenge

This is my first Ludum Dare; This is my first programming competition; This is the first real game I’m going to develop; This is the first time I’m going develop something “real” [aka not experimental stuff or academic jobs].

This will be a Challenge.

I’m probrably going to enter on the Jam and develop a NDS homebrew [which can be run with emulators or flashcards], using C/C++ [with devKitArm, libdns]. If I change my mind, I’ll work with C++ [openGL, Box2D] or make JS/HTML5 Canvas. Sound and art assets will be simple stuff, made with sfxr and Paint.NET

I’m joining to learn, so I don’t think I’ll finish the game in 72 hours, but I’ll do my best.

Decisions…

In the last post, I’ve said that I was probrably coming to the LD#19. Since I won’t have enough time this weekend, I won’t be able to finish my project in 48h or even on 72h for the Jam, but I will work under the rules of Ludum Dare.

My plan is to work with JavaScript manipulating the HTML5 canvas element (I’ll work with Chrome mainly, because it has the best performance on the stable browsers so far). I’ll try to keep my work as clean as possible (one of the reasons that 72h won’t be enough) and work as “functional” as I can.

Everything will be created with Notepad++ and stored on GitHub (my LD19 Repository). I will try to work from sketch, but if necessary, I’ll use some JS lib to deal with the canvas.

I’ll try to make the art assets with Paint.NET, but I don’t have any design skills, so I don’t expect beautiful stuff incoming. The sounds will be created with sfxr.

Second time in

I can’t believe it’s been three months already, but here we are. Last time I joined LD just after getting out of my previous job as software developer expecting to guide my career to the game industry. Things went pretty well and now I’m working with gamification on PushStart Studio, developing games and working with web front-end.

This time, I’ll work with Construct 2, since I use on my daily job and the jam is a nice opportunity to try new things on it. I’ll probably go for the Jam, so I expect to use asset from kenney and maybe other sources. My entry on LD32 missed some polishing, specially with the absence of UI and sounds. I hope I can dedicate enough time to this one

LD34

Back again

After a nice first time and a failed second try on Ludum Dare, I’m back again to #34!

This time, I’m using Unity or Construct 2. I’ll try to keep restricted to my own art, but I may end up using kenney’s stuff. I plan to use sounds generated with bfxr, as well.

I’m not made my mind about going for the compo or the jam yet, but I’ll work alone anyway.

The next hour will be filled with my suffering while we wait for the theme announce
