Here is how we wanted the fight to be, but couldn’t make this happen on monday.
We like to start with thanking the people who left a comment. We really like to have feedback on our game. And we love reading your comments (we still get a kick out of it when someone gets eaten right away). Play it here!
Here’s what went well, -bad and what didn’t make it in:
What went well
First time working together
Concepting smooth
The brainstorm session before creating any assets or code
The controls of the playable character
Music (so dynamic!)
Beacons is a combination of a radar and stones to lure the worm
What went bad
Web player version is broken and we don’t know why
Created for the resolution of the web player version
The worms are not the smartest
Not enough information about how to play in the description (or beginning) of the game
Throwing beacons of the map
Could’ve used a better ending
What did not make it in
Save zones (rocks), because fighting 1 worm is easy
Multiple worms
Player stamina bar so the player only could dodge an X amount of times
Some worm graphics were replaced with simple ones
Gamepad support
Swallowing of the beacons by the worm
Grenades (and having the worm swallow them)
Radar (you can still see the green glow of the radar on the characters wrist)
Mouse support. Just felt better with keys
What we’d like to add (if we continue with Wormhunter)
Items or upgrades
Different types of weapons
Different types of worms
Co-op
More complex worm behaviour
Leaderboards
Some stats
Total plays 347
Worm wins 218
Player wins 71
No worm here? 58
Q&A
kyyrma: “The only thing that felt inconsistent was the actual beacon. Why would a tribal looking fellow have what appear to be small radios or something?”
The original plan was to have a lot more sci-fi stuff involved, like the radar and some grenades. It was gonna be a mix of a tribal style and kind of crappy/scrappy technology. All that ended up getting cut, and the beacons remained. So yeah, they’re a bit out of place.
Reinkout: “I felt like a black Kevin Bacon in tremors! Thanks for the game!”
Kevin Bacon will be included in the upcoming Wormhunter DLC
Moebius: “Also sometimes the worm just wouldn’t show up at all – sometimes it just ate me directly after the start”
The worms are not the smartest nor the bravest. There is always a worm each game and with the help of the beacons it can be found.
v_n_j: “I’m still using WinXP
Maybe you’ll make a web version?”
Maybe, not sure yet.
Davidllanos22: “I missed being able to dodge in diagonal.”
That would work with gamepads, but those are not supported. It just did not feel good with a keyboard.
Bazid: “I’d like to see the idea expanded, with more things to collect and fight.”
So do we.
What is next?
We don’t know yet. That’s why we’d love to know what you like and dislike about Wormhunter.
