Ludum Dare 37

All in one room!

One hour and thirty minutes. Many ideas thrown away.. but I think I have something I can work with!

I’m going to make a Dungeon Keeper/Darkest Dungeon type of game where you must protect a single room from would be adventurers.

My original goal was to make a menu based game so I could practice my UI skills, and I think I can do that with this.

Using:

  • Unity 5.5
  • PyxelEdit
  • Gimp
  • Inkscape
  • Krita
  • Audacity
  • LMMS
  • ChipTone

Starting a little late, but why not?!

I was going to work on some other stuff this weekend, but I can't resist a good Ludum Dare!

Let's see if I've learned anything since my last jams... Not making a full 3d animated character. Check. Not making a procedurally generated world. Check.

Okay, I might be able to keep my scope reasonable this time... NAH.

4 am progress

Whoops, I ended up throwing a character together, rigging it, and started on doing some animations.

Loving the animations glitches, might end up animation features if I don't figure out how to fix it quickly.

Making Progress

Okay, I'm at the point where I need to buckle down and add content now.. let's see how much I can add before the end!

Pretty happy with the basic core gameplay.

P.S. is there a way to embed imgur gifs in these posts? Uploads keep failing for me.

Oh. I'm in!

Looks like I'm joining a few hours late, but I'm relatively free this weekend!

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with this theme yet... hmm.

Maybe a game where as you gain knowledge about your world you realize how sinister everything truly is.... I think I can work with this! Now to figure out gameplay....

Tools: Unity Gimp Inkscape Krita Blender LMMS Audacity

Making a little progress

Since the game I'm designing is going to be text heavy, I figured I should spend some time on the text boxes system.

7 hours of text boxes.

Okay, I also modeled a simple duder to stand behind the boxes. But other than that it's just been working on getting this message system into something I can work with. I ended up using function passing with the messages so I can have callback events to trigger things like new questions and stat changes etc with each message.

Updates!

I've managed to come to a solution to organize all of my branching menus and conversations. It's not super elegant, but it's manageable. I also setup saving and loading of all character stats and progress! Hooray for serializable dictionaries!

Entering the fray

I'm going to be super in this time. This will be my first time streaming my gamedev. I'm both nervous and excited! I'm also determined to have some audio this time around, so I'll be practicing with some generators before the jam. If anyone knows of good midi generators let me know!

Planning on using at least some of these tools: * Unity * Blender * PyxelEdit * Gimp * Krita * Audacity * Autotracker.py * MelodyBrains * LMMS

First time streaming LDJAM!

I'm a bit nervous excited. This will be my first time streaming game dev in general. I've lost track of exactly how many game jams I've done, but I know it's over 15. Hope everyone has a great jam!

If anyone wants to stop by, I'll be at: https://www.twitch.tv/ursagames

Starting the Stream back up!

In it to have fun

Wow, this will be my 12th Ludum Dare! Planning on doing the solo compo like usual. The final themes ended up being better than I thought they would be, so good job voting everyone! I tend to wait until the theme is announced to really come up with an idea for the theme, but they all look doable this time!

Tools I will likely be using include: * Unity * Blender * PyxelEdit * Krita * Gimp * Audacity * autotracker.py * https://www.beepbox.co * http://sfbgames.com/chiptone

I will be streaming all development at: https://www.twitch.tv/ursagames

I also plan on playing people's games on stream after I sleep from the compo! That was a real blast last time, you guys all make some crazy cool stuff!

but first.. I have a dentist appointment to go to.
