Pong Escape

Well, I just finished my first Mini-LD game. I’ve entered in 4 LD’s, but this is my first Mini.

The inspiration for this game came to me, when I saw the Theme was Pong. For 8 days, I dismissed this because Pong is such a stupid and repetitive game! And then it came to me, I should make a game about rebelling against Pong. In this game, you are a pong ball escaping from the game because you are sick of the repetition.

This game isn’t very good, cuz I only worked on it for about 6 hours. But for the time I spent, its pretty decent.

The Island

I finished this Sunday, Just didn’t get around to announcing it until now.

The Island

The island Logo

The island is a survival/horror game where you wake up on a mysterious island, where it is obvious, something is wrong. Signs across the Island shed light to you, that this isn’t any normal Island, and who-ever sent you there, is no normal person. Loot much of the surrounding, such at crates and bushes to find food and unconventional weapons. BUT REMEMBER, DON’T ENTER THE CAVE!!!
Island 3
I slept like, 3 hours this weekend. I worked all weekend, and I turned it in with 10 minutes left in submission hour, I spent a lot of time and work on this game (I hope you can tell from the quality of the game?) and I think I finally made a epic enjoyable game during Ludum Dare.
Island 5
I’m a ex-game developer and current dubstep producer, and I haven’t made a game since the last LD, so it was REALLY fun getting back into Game Dev, and it was really fun making the song for this game! Please rate me well, Especially in audio. Rate me honestly, but pls rete me well :) .

I’m In! (Unofficial Ludum Dare song)

I’m in! And a tsunami of “I’m Ins” are coming soon

Hey guys! My name is Tanner Daniels and I am a 16 year old Dubstep producer! This will be my 5th official Ludum Dare! I’m super excited for this iconic number, and I can already feel this is going to be my lucky Dare. I began my music production because of Ludum Dares, so I never miss a opportunity to participate. I would never have taken an interest in audio if it weren’t for Ludum Dare… AND THATS WHY, EVERY LD, I CREATE A EPIC SONG TO ANNOUCE THAT IM IN! This year, in the spirit of Ludum Dare, I decided to try something new… I’m experimenting with different ways to make bass growls, choppy bases, and VoCodeing. Another small feature of this song is, I tried a beat-down in the chorus, and it ended up great. I tried hard on this song to keep a Gamey root too it, while giving hardcore Dubstep touches to it. Here’s the song…

I hope you enjoy the song!

Happy Daring!

Ludum Dare Wallpaper

This is the first time I’ve made a wallpaper for Ludum Dare… I didn’t draw this, but took this from a audio visualizer I put on one of my songs, then slapped Ludum Dare on it. I think it looks pretty sick.

Am I insane, or a genius?

My “I’m In” Announcement

Hey guys, I want to share my newest musical project to warm-up my skills for Ludum Dare with you guys! This song is unlike anything ever created. This song is a mixture of something good, and something else good, and I love it! You will never hear anything like this anywhere else… Am I Insane?

Hidden Voices

Hidden Voices is a innovative song unlike any other ever created. It features a heavily synthesized / Vo-Coded Audio sample of my Voice. This song is incredibly complex and unique. (I had a extremely long description written here… But my web crashed and I lost it :/ )

Haha you’re not insane, just proud and not very modest. The track is OK, though I’m sure you could do better.

I understand where your coming from, from the outside, all the verses and such sound quite simple, and the a good majority of the verses are simple, but this song in general, even though it may not seem like it, it quite complex if you look at it closely. In the chorus, over 15 tracks of patterns, drum loops, automation, and filtering are being played at the same time. The verses are quite simple, mainly because the style I was going for, but the second chorus is different from the first, and the difference was complex. I first had to use a time modulating and effect plug-in slice the first verse, then export this, and slice it back into the song, giving it the choppy effect it has. I did a lot of filtering, ALL the sounds I used, I made from scratch. I used 13 different masters to control effects, reverb, and filtering. I Vo-Coded my voice and chopped the samples into a pattern, which is hard to make sound good.

Lol dude, I’m sorry that you did all of this work and still when I listen to it I barely hear it .. it does sound like you put a bunch of effort but I can’t honestly say I hear any of that. I guess it just didn’t pay off.

I think what happened was – it took you lots of work to create the sounds but your dynamics sucked.

And honestly the drum machines beats and time shifts weren’t that impressive. When it doesn’t flow, it doesn’t flow, and sound can’t fix that!

And I’m very sorry but I don’t hear 15 patterns (not to mention that’s not enough for making a riff last 4 minutes). If you mean the vocal pattern in terms of stopping and resuming it (aka glitching it) – it’s not impressive at all. I’m gonna be honest hope you won’t take it personally, once again you are the one who asked me to elaborate – it’s not just boring to my ears it’s boring to my brain. The patterns are plain so you can’t help quality with quantity. That just makes it longer. Also, if you made so much effort to make your vocals make ’em more loud! the freaking annoying repititve synths are all over my face!! Nuffff

The stuff you linked suffered from the same problem as well as your descriptions of them staying wierdly self-complementive. I’ll be honest with you it’s below average. I probably won’t have time to keep chatting with u cause I gotta prepare for the compo but if you want a piece of advice: One cannot judge himself properly, especially when one likes himself (which is almost always the case). Try to ask other people to try to listen to this and check if they finish it without you instructing them to do so. If they won’t, it seems like I’m right. If they do, try random people on the net and ask them if they did. If they did, well; At least you know I’m the only one who thinks that, and you may feel free to embrace or reject my criticism, otherwise you probably NEED to pay attention to what’s being said. Well, that’s my advice Good Luck =]

Post-Compo Projects

I wanted to share some projects I’ve been working on since Ludum Dare. I’ve learned so much from my experience with Ludum Dare on every aspect of a game, and audio. These projects, I could never had made if not for some of the revelation from the 48 hours of the last LD.

I used FL Studio Producer edition to create these tracks.

Strings

Strings is a very beautiful track that features a string-like synth I created, and also features a very heavy, chaotic, gritty bass wobble. The Beauty and Chaos mix perfectly together. This was largely a experiment of trying new ways to make soft synths, then it turned into so much more.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/275699050/Strings.mp3

Pirate Pulse

Pirate Pulse is a very “different” song… I take pride of this one as being one of my most unusual song I’ve created. It has a very beautiful pattern that very much reminds me of Pirate’s! If it remind you of pirates, then it has to be good. This song started as a test of pulsating basses and string like chords synths that have a pirate-y feel to it, giving it its name. The chorus features aggressive bass wobbles, bass growls, and hard synths. This song is very different from anything I’ve heard, but I like it, and I hope you do too. Pirate Pirate Pirate!

As says Scorched, it sounds really good. I love what you did. Also I did my first track for this Ludum Dare session. I am not proud, but finally I started to create my own music for my projects. I wish you the best. See you later ++

Hey guys! Its me again, Tanner Daniels. I’m a 16, and am a Dubstep producer. Enough about me. I want to share with you guys by newest project!

So Much Bass Growl

So Much Bass Growl is the most insane track I have ever worked on! It is non-stop boss growl through-out the chorus. This is also the most complex track I’ve ever made. The bass growls were not easy to make, and even harder to get them to sound well together. This is defiantly the most intense song I’ve ever made, and possibly the most intense I’ve ever heard. The name fits the theme.

I am really proud of this project, and I feel this is a major mile-stone, not only because I created bass growls few people know how to make… I created a totally new type of bass!!!!!!! I call it a Bass Bark… The Bass Bark originally started out as a bass growl created by vo-coding a audio sample of my voice, and I just kept messing with it, trying to get it growly, but I ended with something I didn’t expect, or even thought existed. The bass growl BARKS!!! Like a dog… The Bass Bark is sound in the second half of the chorus, in a beat-down section.

I really enjoyed making this song, and I really hope you enjoy listening to it.

I’m In!

Hey guys! Its me again. My name is Tanner Daniels, I’m 16, and am a Dubstep producer as a hobby. Every Ludum Dare, I create a new track to announce that I AM IN!!! This LD, I created this…

This Ludum Dare track… I focused on created a track with vocals and a hard-hitting breakdown. This is defiantly the most complex and best “I’m In” track that I’ve every created. I created all this using Fl Studio 11, and I created everything myself. I really enjoyed creating this song, and I hope you enjoy listening.

I’m super excited for this next Ludum Dare! Last LD, I reached #26 in audio!!!!!! I was 1 off my all-time dream! This LD, my goal is top 25 in audio. Goodluck guys, and I’M IN!!!

Released a new single on Soundcloud

This is my last non-Ludum Dare related post in awhile, but I really want to share this new single with the community that has made all this possible for me! I would’ve never gotten into Dubstep production without Ludum Dare!

Today, I am announcing my new single!

Anthem is a experimental song, with a new style that I plan to focus more on. I will probably create more songs of this style for now on.

More big news, I’ve officially decided to make Noobsteps logo, a tri-angle. The triangle first appeared on my EP, This is Noobstep, and I’ve decided to stick with it. Me and my sister work on making these album covers ourselves. I actually did all the editing with Pencyl (The default sprite creator in the program I use for game development) . Here is Anthems cover…

Old Announcements Check out my Tri-annual Ludum Dare song! Here! Listen to my First EP, This is Noobstep Here! Happy Daring!

Wow, never thought I’d see you again (I’m your friend/enemy from Stencyl, vic4real or ilogic). I was listening to a lot of your music and I think you’ve come a long way :) Would you be interested in doing music for a group entry we’re doing?

Progress 1 (Heading on to bed)

I have accomplished a lot in these past 10 hours, some of the highlights include :

  • Completed all the basic game functions
  • Created a very unique story and interpreted the theme well (In my opinion)
  • I’ve finished working on gun mechanics for the game
  • Created some neat effects such as the swinging vines in the photo below
  • I’ve got most the vital art done with already
  • I sorta neat lighting thing

Its all still a major WIP, but I am excited to see what I come up with when I start working on it when I wake up. I still have ALOT of work left, and I will probably be pushing the deadline, but I’m confident I’ve found myself a winner.

I still haven’t come up with a name yet, but I will figure that out soon!

Here’s a picture of what I have done so far!

I HAVE MANAGED TO LISTEN TO  MONSTERCAT FOR 10 HOURS NON-STOP!!! I’m proud of myself right now.

Gl with all your games! And if you want an awesome LD track to listen to while building your games, check out my…

SOUNDCLOUD PAGE!

I have no idea what I just wrote.. Its 6 am in the morning right now…

Progress 2 (29 hours)

Deceit Logo

I’m sharing my progress again before I go to bed! I’m super excited with everything that has been done! ATON of new sounds have been added, new levels, some of the storyline is being introduced, and I think I’m doing well giving the game a eerie feel. Here are some photos of the game.

Capture1

Capture2

Overall, I am really liking the feel of the game! Can’t wait to start working on it again tomorrow, or today actually!

Here is the theme track for Deceit! (Listen to the last 20 seconds of it! :D)

Please check out my Soundcloud page!

Deceit (FINNALY FINISHED!)

I’ve finally finished my game! Deceit! You can play is here…

D 1

Deceit is the story of a where a madman loses his memory, and the voices in his head take him over. The voices tell him to do stuff he doesn’t agree with, but he complies out of fear. You play as the madman, where you must follow the voices is this horror shooter game.

I put a lot more effort than I ever have into this Ludum Dare game! This is defiantly my most advanced and complete game I have ever submitted during a Ludum Dare.

MY NAME IS TANNER DANIELS, AND I AM A 16 YEAR OLD DUBSTEP PRODUCER, AND THE AUDIO IS VERY IMPORTANT TO ME! PLEASE VOTE KINDLEY IN AUDIO. This game features advanced vo-coding and vocal time and pitch manipulation. Creating all the vocals and such were incredibly hard, and you won’t find this form of vocal-editing in ANY OTHER LD GAME!I spent a lot of time on audio.
I am not a artist, and I am amazed I was able to accomplish what I did, the lighting is once of the biggest things that brings my game together.
I had a lot of fun working on the gun mechanics (even though they were a pain). I am super proud that I accomplished creating a automatic gun!!!

I am super excited about this game and I really hope you enjoy the game!

Lets get top 25 in audio this LD! (I reached #26 last LD…)

My soundcloud page

Deceit (Post Mortem)

In this post, I’ll be going over what went wrong and right in my LD 34 entry, Deceit. Play it here. ( Hey look, a extra link! )

D

“Deceit is the story of a where a madman loses his memory, and the voices in his head take him over. The voices tell him to do stuff he doesn’t agree with, but he complies out of fear. You play as the madman, where you must follow the voices is this horror shooter game.”

What went right :

  • One of the greatest things that went right, its people loved the Voice Acting in this game. I am a Dubstep producer, and I have 2.5 years or so of experience with audio. As every Ludum Dare, I try my hardest to do something, audio wise, that sets the game apart from the rest. I feel like the Voice Acting throughout was a VERY nice touch.

There was a lot put into the Vo-coding ,and it was very complex! I couldn’t even fit 1/5th of it all in a whole screen!

vo

  • Another thing that went right, was the art and atmosphere was amazing! I am NOT a artist in the slightest! I am probably the worst artist here, but somehow I managed to make some pretty neat stuff.

I guess It was a lot easier to draw when u have everything so dark you can’t see anything.

D4

  • Another thing that went right, was the gun mechanics turned out great! The guns accuracy varies, and the machines gun just felt so smooth. I love the guns.
  • I didn’t have any major glitches that broke the game, but I did have to take away a couple features I wanted due to just not getting then to work and running low on time.
  • I felt the overall feel of the game was complete. This is probably the most complete entry I’ve turned in for a LD.

WHAT WENT WRONG

  • THE BIGGEST THING THAT I DID WRONG! Was I made it where you have to click on crates to open them! For some reason, people are getting SERIOUSLY ticked about this. I did this because if I programmed it to open on collision, it would likely repeat the process in the millisecond it takes to remove the crates collisions. I didn’t want 5 pistols spawning, and you are able to kill all the monsters in 1 hit.

I did this to keep the game from breaking, but people seriously hate having to click stuff… Its weird…

  • The next biggest thing that went wrong, was I messed up on the movements. When you collide with a wall tile, It stops your x movement completely. Apparently, people do not know how to time a jump, and they cant make it over a tile… Idk, I think I got used to that, an didn’t even notice anything was weird, but some people cant put 2 and 2 together and figure out how to time a jump, it is really easy.
  • Another TERRIBLE thing that went wrong… even though I spent 15+ dollars on snack food… I ran out of them on the first night.

I had like 1 beef jerky stick that I had to proportion out to last 30 more hours XD.

  • Let’s see… Another thing that didn’t quite go my way, Is I never had a opportunity to create some sweet dubstep due to the reason, it just wouldn’t fit the theme of the game. I did have some REALLY SICK audio effects! But no Dubstep.

I had to replace where I normally put my dubstep, with dark ambience.

  • Possibly the most painful thing that I did wrong… Was I went for a more metaphorical interpretation of the theme, but people just didn’t see it well. I did this last LD, and it turned out great, but it didn’t cope well with me this LD.

Summary

Overall, I had a blast this LD! I learned so much about the structures of a song. Because of having to create ambience and background effect, I now realized how important the stuff in the background are to the overall song. I also learned, NO MORE METAPHORICAL INTERPRETATIONS! Next Ludum Dare, I am going to stick 100% to the theme, and focus more on the gameplay than the storyline. I’m super excited for the next Ludum Dare, and I can’t wait to apply what I learned in the next dare! This is probably the most fun I had participating in Ludum Dare, so I’m excited to keep it going! Goodluck with your games!
