It’s the end of the world!

Ha! Stupid zombies will never destroy my mighty towers!

Need towers to save me from zombies

I decided that I could use “Alone” as “Alone in a post-apocalyptic city which you can rebuild, only to have it destroyed by zombies”. So I did. 😛

The Land is Dead!

It's a blob shooting toxic missiles. Is all you need to know. So, I finished up my game in time. I thought it’s be amusing to kill not people or flowers, but to infect the very land itself. And so it was, that Deadland was born. You are a purple sentient blob-thing, who’s made it his/her business to infect all of the land in sight with his disease. Sometimes using missiles.

Alas, I didn’t have enough time or skill to add any decent sounds or music, and it’s missing some animations that I would have liked, but this feels like something I’ll work on again in the future. Why not take the opportunity to try it now, and let me know what you think!

Good day to you!

DODGE

My game this time around is constructed around the simple yet highly effective move: The Causal Sidestep.

As the theme is Minimalism, I have limited myself in many ways. These are those:

-Use only black and white pixels

-Use only 4×4 blocks of pixels

-Use only one level

LD26_Dodge 2013-04-27 23-31-09-02

It is, essentially, a time trial game where your task is to dodge things.

Dodge

Bit late in making a post on this, but I’ll do it anyway.

Dodge is my entry to Ludum Dare 26. After receiving a few feedback comments about it, I can now analyze the merits and problems with this game:

Merits:

It runs on a very simple concept: Dodge enemies. However, you are limited to motion in a very small area (There are only 9 possible places you can be).

The graphical style certainly fits the theme of minimalism. As much as I despise the theme, I think it’s brought out some of the best in my graphical ability.

I seem to find it difficult to resist playing again after failure. And seeing as one playthrough usually takes under a minute, it’s very hard not to. I don’t know if it’s just me though.

Pitfalls:

By far the main complaint I receive is that the sounds are too harsh. I agree with this (althouhgh I can’t fathom why they don’t just turn the sound down.)

Also, it’s a bit lacking in content and variety. Even though there are three difficulty levels to try, it still becomes repetitive fairly quickly. (Again, not sure if it’s just me.)

Do feel free to give it a go, if you so desire. I’ll see you again next Ludum Dare (Or the one after.)

Let’s Play Ludum Dare 26 games

I thought I’d have a go recording some of these.

Apologies for the quiet voice. If you want your game done, tell me and it shall (maybe) be done.

LD27

The world’s most generic platform game

This is what a few hours of work looks like.

Woo, tileset!

The point of this game is that it is a standard platformer, but you start each level with 10 seconds in which to complete it. It will be possible to get more time through actions such as killing enemies and reaching checkpoints.

2 down, 1 to go…

So, I finished a game. It is Dodge, which is nigh-identical to my LD26 entry, because not many improvements can really be made.

I also took it to market, if you can call it that. What I really mean is that I took it to GameJolt (Here it is).

As for making $1… Well, it seems to be harder than you’d imagine. After about a week and a half, I’ve accumulated the grand total of $0.01. Jubilation!

Not all that intense, though, seeing as I am using the 'Potato' cheat while taking this picture.

Intense times!

Dammit, how does anyone do this?

Chain reaction-like situations

Runner 2013-12-14 20-28-58-46

You only have one shot. Fortunately, you’ve got some pretty nifty weapons to take that shot with, including this giant snake-like thing that lives on the flesh of your foes (the red rectangles), pushing back its inevitable death by eating them for you!

LD29

The one thing you should not do

If you only have two days to make a game, if you plan to eat/sleep/poop during those two days, if you want to succeed, the one thing you never do is try to make a story-centric game with multiple endings.

I am trying to make a story-centric game with multiple endings. It is not going well.

Dodge, quite a while later.

Back in LD26, I made a game called Dodge. I thought it was pretty great, and it seems that the community agreed. Recently, I built it again from scratch, with a bunch of new features, some levels and the greatest options menu ever to exist.

The midst of a default game on Level Infinity.

Runner 2014-06-13 16-31-29-54

The midst of a slightly customised game on Level Infinity.

Whereas the LD26 version featured the ability to endlessly dodge black squares on a 3×3 grid, this version allows one to dodge black squares and black rectangles on an ever-changing (if you want) grid and possibly also collect outlines of squares, if you want to do that. You can very heavily customise the game, to make it as easy or as difficult as you please.

I am now in need of other people to tell me of the flaws and merits of this game, and if they so desire, make suggestions. If you would like to do this, do say so and I shall give you a link.

Dodge is a minimalist arcade game involving the act of dodging squares. In the eventual Steam version, this would be possible to do infinitely, as in other versions, or it would be possible to complete prepared levels. A level editor is included. The eventual Steam version would be greatly improved over the other versions, shipping with a level editor, 50 levels (they take about 10 seconds each, if done in one try), more customisation for the endless Level Infinity, and a few other things that I don’t care to mention.

Feel free to vote it up. Or down, if you really want to.

Intense Wizardry: A game where you turn your foes into cockroaches

Or freeze them or blow them up or burn them, or freeze them then burn them. It’s really your choice. More options coming soon.

Intense Wizardry is an intense top-down game where you play as a wizard who is stopping some burglars or bankrobbers or something. I didn’t think about the story. There’s guys in black hats and you kill them. Maybe they’re clones. Maybe they’re all not twins or triplets, but a few levels above that. Centuplets or something.

A big thing I like about IW thus far is that there’s a lot of stuff left behind on the ground. When someone dies, there cadaver will remain there forever. When you walk, you leave faint footsteps. Explosions scorch the ground and cockroaches do not mysteriously vanish. The level looks a bit bland to start with (which I want to fix ‘tomorrow’), but over time, you will literally decorate it with the blood of your enemies.

The spells I have done so far are: The Fireball Spell, The Freezing Spell, The Clockblocker (slow down time), The Spell of Discord (Teleport spell. Also does an explosion), and the Cockroach Spell (Turn an enemy into a cockroach).

Ones I have not done are: The Healing Spell, The Black Hole Spell, The Level Up Spell, The Change of Heart and the Unholy Swarm.

A sips_ fan?

Intense Wizardry: Top Down Wizarding game.

You play as a wizard who has taken it upon himself to defeat a bunch of people wearing black hats whilst being shot at. You have many spells at your disposal, unlocked from kind-of-rare enemy drops. But your bread and butter will be the Fireball Spell:

But you also have the Black Hole spell, the Freezing Spell, the Clockblocker and six more. Simply murder the people/snowmen in black hats until you are defeated. Use the final spell to get a sense of victory.

Play it here: Intense Wizardry.

Dodge soon available on Steam

Originally made for Ludum Dare 26 (Minimalism), Dodge is an arcade-y game in which you must avoid endless armies of projectiles whilst fixed to a grid.

Here’s the Steam page.

I’m not sure what I wanted to do, so I did this bumpy bouncy thing in Game Maker.
