Ludum Dare 46

-Sprout-

Wow... what an experience. My friend and I participated in our first ever game jam this year and are very new to unity and blender. We worked most of the weekend on our game 'Sprout' where you must protect your plant, the last plant on earth, from evil harvesting robots equipped with a water gun. You can kill the robots by spraying them and water your plant if its damaged to heal it.

Ludum Dare 47

HYPED!!! for Ludumdare 47

Super excited to be participating in my second Ludumdare with my friend @huthuthunter this upcoming Saturday AEST.

We have been practicing making small games since the last Ludumdare and are a lot more familiar with the softwares and game creation process now.

We are planning to use these tools:

Unity (Game engine of choice)

Visual Studio Code (IDE of choice)

Aseprite (Art software of choice)

FL Studios (Music software of choice)

Audacity (Soundtrack editing software)

BFXR (Sound Effect software of choice)

Been checking all my softwares are up to date, planning a schedule for the three days and slowly getting through the massive 2500+ entries in the theme slaughter round. Hope the theme is good and can be interpreted creatively in many ways and that our game is quite a lot better than our previous attempt at the game jam when we had no coding or game creation experience... r.i.p -Sprout-

Can't wait : )

My Round 1 Theme Votes

Good Themes in the Round 1 shortlist. I tried to upvote themes that seemed they could be taken in different directions easily. Here are my votes : )

Screen Shot 2020-09-28 at 9.26.19 pm.png

Hoping that the chosen theme for this Ludumdare is broad so that everyones games aren't too similar.

Theme Voting Round 2

Some good themes for round 2 of the voting. Again I tried to vote for themes that could be taken in different directions. So HYPPPEEEDDD!!! Screen Shot 2020-09-29 at 10.48.00 am.png

Ludumdare 47 Background

Made a background for Ludumdare 47 in Aseprite and thought it was pretty cool. Has some of my favourite games in the bottom corners. Enjoy : ) Ludumdare 47 Background.png

My theme votes Round 3

Not as keen on the themes in round 3 of the voting, however some of them were still good. I'm literally watching the clock on the Ludumdare site countdown to the day, Super HYPPEDDDD!!!! Here were my votes themeVotesRound3.png

Final Round Votes

Seems like the best of the best themes got into the final round this year and I personally would be able to go with any of them. However I do hope that the final chosen theme is one of the broad ones so everyones game is different and fun to play. Still super hyped for the jam and am getting ready to make an epic game!!! Here were my votes:

Rough day, new game idea

Today was a rough day :( . My friend @huthuthunter and I decided to scrap our game idea halfway through the jam due to the fact we were not passionate about the idea anymore, felt demotivated and the game scope was way to big for a 3 day jam. After a long discussion and brainstorm we came up with a new idea and began work straight away. Super happy we were able to move on and not feel like we had to finish our previous idea however it felt like we should have switched ideas earlier. Anyways, I've gotten most of the mechanics up and working in an afternoon and done some epic art with @huthuthunter. Just learnt how to do arrays in Unity and create my own custom random obstacle generation script. Learning heaps and am gonna go hit the sack now and continue with the development tomorrow! Goodnight : )

Orbit

Here is our entry for the LD47: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/47/orbit-2

You control a spaceship that orbits Earth. Press ‘spacebar’ to move between rings and smash obstacles while collecting fuel to keep your spaceship alive. If you let your fuel run out, it’s over. If you run into an orbiting obstacle your fuel will be seriously decreased.

gameplayScreenshots.png

Overall we are decently happy with how the game turned out and that we got a playable build of the game submitted, considering we changed game ideas halfway through the jam. Had fun over the weekend creating the game and learning so much about game development. Definitely gonna participate in Ludumdare in April!

ABOUT :

Overall we are decently happy with how the game turned out and that we got a playable build of the game submitted, considering we changed game ideas 48 hours into the jam, leaving us wth a day to create the entire game including all art and sound effects. If we had had more time we definitely could have made the game better and stuck to our original concept for the game. Had fun over the weekend creating the game and learning so much about game development (Learnt how to use arrays confidently, made my first own random generation system, learnt how to use the animator with multiple states with ease) . Definitely gonna participate in Ludumdare in April!

Ludum Dare 55

Wow. What a great Ludum Dare!

So many amazing entries in this Ludum Dare and I am excited to get around to playing them.
Our team had a blast making our submission, Capture the King, where you summon chess pieces to fight in a capture the flag auto-battler puzzle game.
Give it a go and let us know what you think!
