6fu.png

Howdy, people of the interwebz! I'm one of the developers from 6 Feet Under, a 2d platformer with a TWIST. Zombiegirl Kevin rises from her grave. Dig, jump and gimmick her way back home so she can finally rest. A CHALLENGING 2d platformer, completely made in 1-bit (multiple palette options for the fans) and a little bit of a story in the ending. Download it here.

Some sprites from our game !

Here are a list of some sprites from our game, enjoy !

Enemies

Archer

Archer.gif The archer roams the first levels of the game, they will try to shoot at you from a distance but do not have a lot of health.

Skeleton

Skeleton.gif Skeletons are summoned by a mystic creature we will showcase in a future post. They come in merciless horde and will not spare your life.

Zombie

Zombie.gif Zombies are quick but do not jump very high, use verticality to get rid of them.

Imp

Imp.gif Imps are the opposite of zombies, they jump very high and will try to reach you no matter where you are. They haunt the deepest levels of the dungeon

Knight

Knight.gif Knights are slow and tanky, they are easy to damage but can survive a lot of hits.

Slime

Slime.gif Slimes are primitive creatures, easy to kill, they only present a threat when in group.

There are more impressive enemies in Dungeons & Potions, we will most likely do another post to showcase the remaining ones.

Check out the game if you feel like it :)

Preregister for our Play'n'Rate session coming up this saturday!

Hey,

my team and I want to stream some of your submissions this saturday. After playing it we will rate it and discuss our feedback. But we would like to extend our stream with one interaction - a short tech-talk/retrospective/whatever you wanna call it with you. While we play your game, we would like to ask you question about the idea finding process, challenges, learnings, achievements, ... so you can share your acquired and gained knowledge with the audience. So you can discuss your game with us and the chat while wr are playing it. This might be a great opportunity to give more insights into your game and talk about the things you were not able to communicate within your game.

The interview will be completly optional, no need to participate. You can preregister yourself here: Register Form

We will choose the games randomly we will play, but we will call you out if we are going to play yours.

The stream will start this saturday between 15-16 CEST and will have an open end (or until we call it a day).

Gladly looking forward to play your games and have a nice chat with you :)

update.png

Yep, Trapdoor in the Garden is getting a quality of life update that will be released once the voting phase ends. I'll wait until then because this update changes the gameplay experience a lot and I don't want that to influence the voting phase.

Deem Rewritten Devlog #001

Currently parsing all of the tiles of a world. I made a program that smooths out all corners of a set tilemap so that i can save time on just drawing the bases of the tilemaps instead of manually smoothing them out, but the main problem is that the program takes forever on such a large world. The good thing is that when it finishes, it will download a record of the smoothed tilemap, so that the next time it loads the world generates like 10000x faster. See ya on the next devlog!

Edit: 18 ROWS LEFT FOR THE FIRST WORLD!!!! Edit: First world finished parsing, 102.400 total tiles parsed. Flat doesn't need parsing. I'll do with this world first and then release the other worlds as time goes on, this parsing took 10 minutes.

So many great entries - and such a fun time! WHY DIDN'T I DO THIS SOONER!

I am absolutely floored by the stuff I've been checking out lately - and to sit back and realise this is what can be done in the span of 72 hours or less!

The one main take away I have gotten from this process - I need to stop spinning on my ideas and just get stuck in. throw it on the wall, make some basic gameplay, work on the iteration process, and see what comes out the other side.

For every game that I come across with amazing artwork I'll play another that has 'programmer art' (which to be honest is still awesome!) with just as much love and care in its mechanics. One things for sure - I've already marked in my calendar for October!

So, in this last fortnight - other than playing and rating - I've been making the task list for a full Fathomless Release, and continuing to work on the Github + Unity CI template that I had played with before the Jam. I am looking to extend it to not only build and release WebGL builds, but also to create Desktop builds as well and upload to a release inside Github. I hope this will help others in future game jams by removing one of the more tedious tasks of development.

For anyone that might have missed our entry, and has a love for difficult platformers, feel free to check out Fathomless and give feedback.

Condemned Update v1.0 !!

Hi everyone! Thanks so much to those of you that have taken time to play Condemned and leave some thoughtful feedback. It’s been great to see what everyone thinks, and I’ve had a blast playing & learning from all of your projects, as well. I’ve slowly been addressing your comments and fixing various bugs/issues with the game, and finally have the first update ready & available!

For those that haven’t gotten a chance to check it out, Condemned is my contribution to LD48 where you play as a Knight delving “deeper and deeper” into a claustrophobic & increasingly hostile dungeon, filled with skeletons that want to touch your face. Kill them!

(Download & Play v1.0 HERE: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1sh0q-pQFrLifdXtVuXSAQxlrkbzLa4by/view?usp=sharing)

Features: + Retro graphics & shaders inspired by classic dungeon crawlers. + 10 Floors of skeleton punching, sword swinging goodness. + A medieval artstyle that clashes with more futuristic scenery the deeper you go. + A lofi synth melody on loop, which I made using 1BitDragon.

CondemnedScreenshot2.png

Update v1.0 Changelog: + Tweaked stamina cost, damage, and attack speed of the sword & fists + Set the perspective to 3rd person (formerly 1st person) + Overhauled lighting to better fit dungeon setting + Adjusted Depth Fog Shader to blur the player’s sight past a certain point + Added particle effects when either enemies or the player is dealt damage + Changed how enemies deal damage (fixes former bug where enemies deal damage to player without attacking) + Removed enemy health bars & adjusted skeleton max-health + Fixed blocking, player is no longer dealt damage when attacked while blocking (but does lose stamina with each hit)

CondemnedScreenshot1.png

I’m very curious to hear your thoughts, and already have a slew of changes planned for update v1.5 (expected in 7-10 days).

Currently Planned v1.5 Changes: + Adjust how enemies are spawned, waiting for the player to be within a certain distance. + Add enemy knockback to player attacks. + Add one NPC the player can talk with to learn more about the setting. + Increase variety of level paths to make dungeon maze-like. + Add a brute enemy, with more health and heavier attacks than the skeletons. + Develop game’s song further, increasing length to decrease repetitiveness

This was my first LD Jam, and my first Jam working alone. It’s been a blast so far, and I’m excited to see where all of our projects go from here. Cheers!

99 annoying bugs in the game, 99 annoying bugs...

Hunt one down, patch it sound. 100 annoying bugs in the game!

Screen Shot 2021-05-01 at 5.13.07 PM.png

So it turns out in the process of fixing some bugs I managed to add even more bugs. I suppose you could argue those bugs were always there and fixing other bugs simply revealed them.

  • Fixed bug where units get stuck behind each other when units with different speeds collide. This was due to another bug fix that addressed units not having different speeds (oops). Now units in the same group (player or enemy) don't collide with each other. This does mean they stack up, but I think its better than the alternative.

  • You can win now! It turns out I merely imagined hooking up the dialogue box that says you won but didn't quite have it all the way wired up so the dialogue box never pops up.

  • Fixed a huge memory leak caused by adding units to building queues that was probably causing freezes and crashes for some players. The game should play much better now.

  • Fixed a bunch of bugs related to setting position transforms on arrows before adding them to the world.

  • I tried really hard to fix some race conditions that prevent me from making a release build. In theory a release build will have better performance. Unfortunately, the bugs that prevent making a release build are very tightly coupled. There are some things that can be done to address this that result in yet another memory leak. I've decided it's not worth pursuing further.

  • Some players have reported that buildings don't go away from the tooltip after placing. There was definitely a bug related to this that I swear I fixed. However, the UX for that whole thing is frankly not very good so it could just be confusing UX now.

In all likelihood I've managed to add new bugs in the process of fixing these bugs. Anyway, you can play and rate the game here.

Recommendations!

It's just about time for one of my favourite parts of the game jam - recommendations! There have been a ton of great games this jam, but here are some of the ones I want to give a shout out to and point you all toward playing!

Recommendations.png

[Top row: Selkö, Dome Romantik, A Taste of the Past, Me: Tree! - New Roots]

[Bottom row: Billy's Gone Again, DeepO, The Plot Chickens, The Void]

Selkö - A beautiful and atmospheric game that sees you descending into the ocean in search of a rumoured secret in the ocean! With charming pixels and relaxing music, this is a light gameplay experience filled with plenty of charming fish! Created by @thekingbarry, @dodidouda, and @doot.

Dome Romantik- A visually stunning game with simple and elegant design about mining deep into the earth to escape monsters attacking your surface base. The gameplay is appropriately scaled for difficulty and there's a completeable ending to get to, so try to complete it and enjoy the beautiful art along the way! Created by @idinakloppstock and @rongo-matane

A Taste of the Past - For anyone looking for a narrative based game, this is one of the best I've seen this jam. It pulls heartstrings as it brings you through a journey of the importance cooking, connecting with the past, and learning to move forward. Created by @julia-lee, @johnnywan, @caiojmini, @isabelle-szeto, @lancival, @carolinewang, @kelvin-nguyen, @jaimi, and @emily-pitcher

Me:Tree! - New Roots - A very soothing game with the only objective being to grow. The gameplay takes a little to get used to, but after learning it's a calming game. It was a little saddening to get to the end without any more nutrients to grow, but very satisfying to look at the beautiful tree I'd made along the way! Grow your own lovely tree now! Make some fun shapes with those branches. Created by @groggi

Billy's Gone Again - A fun shooter! While this isn't the 'deeper and deeper'est game I've seen, it's a delight to play. The art design is charming, the music is very fitting, and while many shooters give you several near identical guns, the weapons provided in this game feel enjoyably and usefully different. Enjoy some cowboy time! Created by @willoxs, @preda, @rat-spine, @waltsontanaka, and @kingofnova

DeepO - Do some deep breathing exercises in this lovely little platformer! A well-balanced adventure comprised of taking deep breaths and launching yourself further, the controls feel wonderful. That said, it is definitely best played as a controller experience. Created by @alejandrodecea, @jmartinez-gamedev, and @rodrysson

The Plot Chickens - Solve a mystery about a chicken! This puzzle game includes so many charming characters, a beautiful little town, and a story that's fun to solve! It's very easy to get attached to the characters, and the humour is delightful! Created by @sarafilipa, @ru-mey, and @jpiolho

The Void - A suspenseful, narrative-driven game about descending into a pit. The voice acting is very well done, and the suspense as you descend made me more and more nervous with every puzzle I solved. Find what's waiting for you in the depths! Created by @zuhairghias, @axlplosion=, @gnahzanit, @deathhound, @ceyhun-yanikdag, and @amastryukov

It's been such a fun Ludum Dare, everyone! I'd love to see all of your recommendations - what games have made you smile? If you make a recommendation post, please leave it in the comment to share your favourites!
