You too can discover new things about yourself by playing Masseuse You Loose!
In all serious though, we are all super duper pleased with the warm reception that our silly little game is getting. We've been having a blast playing and rating games already, and we look forward to continuing to rate as many as we can over the next few weeks! We'll also try to get our usual "recommendations" post written up at some point as well. Look out for it!
'Til next time! :pointright: :cowboy: :pointright:

Full patch notes available on the Itch page...

This update doesn't fix the game, far from it... but it does try its best to improve what's there.
In this patch...
As always, thank you for all the feedback and support! I learned a lot this time around... the main lesson learned being "level design is important." I walked away from this jam with a lot of important things to keep in mind from this point on, and Resurface may have future potential now that I've had a few days to mull over how I could possibly expand it. It remains up in the air for now, but I'm hopeful.
Full post-mortem vid coming in the near future!*
*A week or something idk, we'll see
Into the depth is a game where you collect depth. when you're fully 3D, you can walk in forward and backward in the z coordinate.
Maybe, if you have some extra time, you can check out my first 48 hour jam game. https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/48/into-the-depth

.goodbye my prize :hand_splayed:
I will kill my desiger who said two players will be more fun today :anger:
You are a powered robot with low fuel, you need to avoid and destroy obstacles in order to land safely at the end of the cavern. Good luck https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/48/falling-bot

Hey everybody!
It's this time of the Game Jam again! It's time for me to do the post-mortem of my game, Search for the Undergem.
This time around, I wanted to experiment with a video format.
I hope you'll enjoy watching it, and have a wonderful day! ;)

I think just a little bit of polish can go a long way, don't you think? We focused a lot on playtesting and fun this time but in the last few hours we still added some animations and made the colors look nicer. See and try for yourself 🙌

Here's part 2 of my series of blog posts explaining some of the audio systems I designed for our game Dieper and Deaper (https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/48/dieper-deaper). This time, I'm discussing the "Animal Crossing style" gibberish I used for Dieper's voice. The game is developed in Unity, with FMOD for all the audio.

Dieper is the player character's partner, waiting outside in the van while you infiltrate the building. He speaks to the player via an earpiece/walky talky type of system. This manifests as text bubbles, each letter appearing in succession. I wanted to try to make the cartoon-y gibberish sound effect made famous by Animal Crossing.

In order to create sounds that are at least somewhat related to the text being spoken (despite being quite abstract), I decided to map the sounds to the alphabet and have the UI trigger a separate sound for each letter. I recorded myself saying every letter of the alphabet (or making open vowel sounds for variety), and created separate FMOD events for each letter. I sped up the recordings, and processed them to have a crackly radio quality to them.

It turned out that one sound per letter was too dense, so we only played the sounds on alternating letters. I also tried both high pitched voices (similar to the NPC barks in the game), as well as a lower mumbly sound, and decided that the contrasting low voice worked better. I also added some radio static sounds that trigger at the beginning of each new speech bubble, as well as when Dieper finished speaking to add to the walky talky effect.
To trigger the sounds, I named all my alphabet events single characters (A, B, C etc...), and fed the current letter into my FMOD PlayOneshot command. As an extra detail, we decided to have the sounds pitch up at the end of sentences that finish with a question mark, to give the questions a different cadence. I simply duplicated my alphabet events, pitched them all up, appended their names with a 1, and checked for the next letter in code (if it's a ?, then add 1 after the letter to the OneShot command, triggering the higher pitched versions).

In the end, creating this system was more about the experiment than the results for me. I believe it works quite well as it is, but could be significantly improved given some time to fine tune the actual recordings (and possibly the speed of playback). All in all, it was a fun little challenge!
I hope this is of interest to some. If anybody has any questions or remarks regarding FMOD or the system, please let me know in the comments! And of course, go check out our game "Dieper and Deaper" to hear the system in action!

Hey,
my team and I want to stream some of your submissions this saturday. After playing it we will rate it and discuss our feedback. But we would like to extend our stream with one interaction - a short tech-talk/retrospective/whatever you wanna call it with you. While we play your game, we would like to ask you question about the idea finding process, challenges, learnings, achievements, ... so you can share your acquired and gained knowledge with the audience. So you can discuss your game with us and the chat while wr are playing it. This might be a great opportunity to give more insights into your game and talk about the things you were not able to communicate within your game.
The interview will be completly optional, no need to participate. You can preregister yourself here: Register Form
We will choose the games randomly we will play, but we will call you out if we are going to play yours.
The stream will start this saturday between 15-16 CEST and will have an open end (or until we call it a day).
Currently there are 7 games registered and 2 of them want to be interviewed. We are still looking for some more submissions, so that we can offer a broad variety of different games and talks.
Gladly looking forward to play your games and have a nice chat with you :)
My game got awesome responses (Thanks everyone!). People even think the music is good.
I cringe when the music "pops" in the webGL version. It happens at the song's loop point!
Anyone have any tips to smooth that out?
Tried a variety of import settings. DEEP Fade-in & Fade-outs at the ends of the audio clip, which helped but didn't totally clear it. (and kind of ruins the attack of the instruments)
It's ONLY in webGL. Windows and Editor is looping as expected.

Interesting happenings today-- I appear to have received my first bot message on LDJam. It appeared on my last blog post just under an hour ago. Well, either that or my game had subversive themes about elderly dating and relationships. I can't say I really had that in mind while writing or ever picked up that connotation, but Death of the Author, etc. etc.

On one hand, it's incredibly unique and I find it amusing to spam LDJam of all places. On the other, it's spam and quite possibly a malicious link. Is there an account reporting system integrated to LDJam yet, or should I reach out to Mike Kasprzak about this?
Thanks in advance!
In addition to having fixed some minor bugs, I finally got to work the features that were not present because of WebGL, such as opening to our different portfolios and saving the adventure in PNG.
In a future version I am also thinking of making a bonus section where we can admire the soundtrack of the differents planets as well as the audio comments.
And of course, if you haven't tried the game yet, come and enjoy this experience. It lasts between 5 and 10 minutes and requires only a mouse to play.

Hey everyone!
Just in case you are wandering around here, we made some adjustments to our jam game - Deep Breath! Feel free to share your thoughts and feedbacks with us (: We currently have the game in WebGL!
Version 1.2 coming out soon!

Our first ever game and our first ever game jam submission all in one! So happy we managed to make it on time. It's pretty short but sweet. :)
We will use this as a prototype and make a bigger game using this type of artstyle. If you'd like to keep track on our upcoming projects you can follow us on itch.io, twitter and youtube!
The responses so far have been amazing! Thank you everyone for playing our little game <3

I've compiled some highlights of my development stream to hopefully give some practical insight on my development process, including some nice Blender tricks for quickly making low-poly style meshes. Oh, and donkey sounds.
