Happy Cleaning Co - progress gifs

Happy Cleaning Co is a humorous game where the character fights the good fight to keep the world clean - from radioactive sewers through a deep ocean to penguin-infested snowy plains of... Manitoba??

We started with an idea for a super-powered vacuum cleaner(to collect everything efficiently!) and a made a few janky prototypes out of boxes. Tileset art in the gif was made by https://kronbits.itch.io/inca-game-assets; we used one of the samples in the LDtk editor while figuring out how to make levels!

From there we decided to center everything around a directional push and pull mechanic that also changes player movement. The objects can be "eaten" by the vacuum and ejected to deposit in receptacles placed around the level. The goal for each stage ended up being simple, just find and dispose of all trash to win!

Around that time the artist was about done coming up with a style for the game. We landed on very simple pixel art with 16x16 tiles and a zx spectrum palette. Really loved this choice, almost everyone on the team contributed some sprites at one point or another.

We were also experimenting with Dirt as a special type of entity that could be sucked into the vacuum. To make this work at runtime we mirrored the tiling rules from LDtk with stock tools in Unity. Much more janky to work with, but it was worth it in the end.

Gameplay application of the system. Snow tiles have collision and can trap objects. On one of the later levels we even have the player come under a barrage of snow-spawning snowballs. :)

First Ludum Dare/first rhythm game and I definitely learned a lot. I need to build my page waaay earlier and set my expectations way lower 😂 But I'm glad I participated! It's been so cool to see everyone's projects and I'm looking forward to playing as many as possible during the rating period 👍

If anyone wants to give it a try, here are the links:

Congrats to all who finished!

Congratulations everyone!

If you need to relax, feel free to do it in Tiny Expeditions a chill exploration game about collecting bugs. Swim, take a hike, and try to find those missing critters for your collection.

And be sure to leave a comment on the rating page so I can go rate your game too!

Or you could catch up on the sleep you missed this weekend-- you need that too ;)

Congrats again!

Finished with 2 hours to go! Siege Crawler is done!

What a solid jam! The last stretch turned into my first all nighter but i think the final outcome feels worth lacking a few hours of sleep. This year we had a 2 man team, with me solely doing all the visuals. SeigeemCrawler/emLogo copy.png PLAY

The collector theme certainly wasn't my first choice of themes, so it took a bit of brainstorming to figure out where we wanted to go with it. After a while we settled on a Dune/C&C inspired sand crawler collector/harvester "tower defence" game. I sort of went with the design of some sort of militaristic style combine harvester. From there we started working on upgrades and enemies (of course we went with drones to avoid extra animations). After we got the basic loop in of the drones and turrets shooting each other I started working on the resources and minor environmental props. Screenshot_11.png

After we had some stretch goals to get a player weapon + tool into the game so I worked on modelling those (unfortunately the weapon did not meet stretch goals and has been added to the game as an easter egg).

I'm not a UI artist, however i also did some work adding UI which I'm happy enough with.

The rest of my work mainly focused on trying to add as much juice as possible on most of the interactions. Collecting the resources, destroying drones, turret upgrades etc. I spent longer than i wanted on a bunch of particles and either sourcing or blending new sounds.

Screenshot_14.png

The remainder of the night mainly focused on playtesting with only a few hours to go, I'm not sure how well balanced the game is. It takes a while to get to the end, so I didn't quiet have enough time to test if its fully winnable, but i certainly got close, which made me think its do-able.

Screenshot_13.png

Overall massive respect to @lordsheo for the effort he put in, we matched each others energy and smashed it out, super impressed with all the programming work he did. The way the turrets and drones aim at each other looks really great!

My wishlist for features: -In game tutorial and story -Drop ship which picks up your deposits -More node upgrade types -Player Weapons -More crawler upgrades -More enemy types

Let me know what you think of the game and if you have any suggestions of what you would like to see? Let me know if you find the hidden collectable.

Get some logic flowing

This is a solo attempt at the jam - there was a lot to do, but I got through it all! Mars Rovers is a puzzle game where the goal is to manipulate a series of rovers from a remote location by passing instructions to them. I'm quite happy how it turned out - definitely a low-key no-rush logic game that will make you think a little :)

Give it a go!

Review and play Mars Rovers

Our first game - idk-team -

We made our first game or something like a game. There are still bugs and a lot of flaws, but you can already see our project and play it!

This was so much fun!

Just wrapped up my first solo Game Jam! It was a bucket of fun and a huge learning experience, even if my to-do list didn't quite get finished. Playing all your incredible games was an absolute highlight. Can't wait to see what you all create next! Tittle.png

Our second ludum dare!!

We worked hard for three days, barely sleeping, trying to make everything as cool and interesting as possible. This time we made a horror game, but the game wasn't indexed on Itch.io. That's a problem. The development itself went smoothly, all the mechanics are implemented. I hope you won't encounter any bugs. I don't want to spoil it, but you'll have to take pictures of the kids at the birthday party.

Our first Game Jam is complete!

We worked hard for the last two days and finally released our first jam game — Wishdom Teeth Pact! 🦷✨

Grant the Wishers’ wishes and collect all the teeth! But be careful... the instructions are very important 😈

Play it now and let us know what you think! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/58/wishdom-teeth-pact

Become a museum keeper and make it the best spot in town!

Deal with pesky kids and thieves, go on expeditions and get your hands dirty, arrange your collection for the best results, get accused of counterfeits and controversies - and it's all because you own a tiny, old museum!

We really wanted to make something tycoon-like for the challenge, of course with the doable scope in 72 hours of work. Still, we're proud of the amount of assets and events produced!

Enjoy the game and let's exchange ratings!
