Working on an Extra idea

I'm amused by the idea of a competitive grain-collecting game. Still just tinkering around at the moment to see what feels fun, but I'm happy with the feel of the driving for now.

Crops on fire

Have you ever driven a combine harvester? Have you ever seen a burning wheat field? Have you ever try to stop the fire with a combine harvester? No? 😅

Now you can, check out my Jam submission.

Warden of the Woods - Mini Devlog on environmental splat tiles using pixel art.

Album.png

So, here's a mini blog about how I did the tiles for our game "Warden of the Woods".

Our game basically is a 2d top-down pixel art game about a little fairy warden who has to protect and take care of the nearby woods.

I was in charge of most of the environment art.

msedge_09-01 22-22-15.png

My goal for this environment art was simple : I wanted to make something that's simple to make, reusable but still organic.

I had heard of splat textures before in Pixel Art, but I never got to use them.

Splat tiles are basically sprites that are larger than normal grid tiles, but have varying shapes near the edges, creating a more organic look! MultiGrass.png

I decided to use splat tiles on the Unity Tilemap, with a custom shader that gives the tiles a little bit of offset based on a 'Gradient Noise" node within Shader Graph. Normally this would deform the pixels, but we made sure to use the Upscale Render Texture feature on the Pixel Perfect Camera inside the Universal Rendering Pipeline.

Using this shader and these sprites in a custom rule tile for the Unity Tilemap allowed us to create varied grass and paths with only a few simple textures.

I'd love to share more thoughts about Pixel-Tech Art topics like this in the future on my YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/@RunicPixels/, so stay tuned.

Which Cover Art is the Best?

Hey, we are working on a cover art for https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/52/lavender-showdown

Bit of explanation: In Lavender Fields Forever you play as a Fennec, growing a lot of Lavender. You employ animal friends to help you farm. Each night thieving gnomes come and want to steal everything you hold dear - so naturally the Fennec whips out a pistol and takes care of them. image_1.png

Which one do you think is the best for this game? :)

Water Tower: Watering crops with a sniper rifle

ldjam2.png

Water Tower is a game where you play as a Water Tower Attendant. You deliver water to crops like any sane person would, by shooting them with a water-filled sniper rifle.

Help produce a field of fruit by completing daily watering tasks, and soon you'll have a field so full that you'll lose yourself in it!

Ready... Aim... WATER!

This was my first 3D jam game! I always defaulted to 2D games because I always assumed that I'd never have enough time to make something in 3D. I was pleasantly surprised by how smoothly development went. I actually spent less time on art than normal (pixel art animations take a long time to make!) As a result, I had a lot of extra time to work on the mechanics. I honestly had such a great time "finding the fun" in the mechanics, and I can't wait to make more 3D games going forward!

LD52 Aftermath and the future of Internet Detective Club

After finally taking part in a game jam, I can confidentially say that it was one very stressful event, that I'm not entirely sure I want to take part in ever again. I like the idea of creating a concept in a short time-frame, but the constantly ticking clock (especially for a solo dev) is extremely straining mentally. At this point I'm certain this is how 'crunch time' feels, and it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

IDC_LAYOUT copy.png

That aside, I'm still relatively happy with what I ended up with, the only issue is that I didn't manage to complete all the things planned for my game, so it ended up being rather short. I did learn a bit more about the engine I was using, but on the other hand I also lost a few braincells trying to figure out why some things break, even though they shouldn't. All in all I can say that it was an 'experience'.

visplayer_xSn8syoPYh.png

Internet Detective Club, the game I ended up with is continuing on with development. I've been adding to and modifying both the back and front-end of it at a more casual pace. Feels quite nice when things actually do work as I envisioned them. I think I will release the 'updated' version of the game in about a week or so, maybe more depending on how much time I can use to work on it, and then start working on the full experience. If you want to keep an eye on the project, you can follow the itch page ( https://studiosonant.itch.io/internet-detective-club ), where it will be available for download. It'd be great if people could check if the MacOs or Linux versions of the LD52 version are in working order, so I'll know if I have to do something extra when the 'upgrade' releases.

Hey everyone! Could you help us?

DisarmProtocolLogo.png For this Ludum Dare, we made Disarm Protocol: a reverse-crafting survival tycoon! We need 3 ratings to get out of the ~~stranger~~ danger zone, if you are feeling kind: could you play the game and rate it as honestly as you can? It would be great! UE4EditoremnOnjdLw51N.gif UE4Editor/emtTVoguyhxs.gif

We have plans to possibly expand the game into a full product, so if you have feedbacks, it would be hugely appreciated as well. We didn't have the time to add a proper tutorial in-game, but the page should help you get started.

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/52/disarm-protocol

Thank you for the support! Also thank you to everybody who sent feedbacks and played our game, it is being extremely helpful!

Looking for an easy game to rate? Try my first ever Ludum Dare entry!

Hello! This is my first time doing Ludum Dare, and I've created a short piece of interactive fiction, which you can play in your browser.

twinery.orgem2/em.png

Check it out!

The entirety of the game is one conversation, and it should take roughly ten minutes depending on your reading speed. If anyone has created similar entries, I'd love to read them and rate them too. I'll be trying to rate as much as I can in general!

As well as being my first Ludum Dare entry, it's also my first time using Twine. I'm keen to receive feedback, so if you are kind enough to check it out, do let me know what you think. Anyway, all that is to say: Why not give it a try?

Come spend some time in Pleasant Valley!

You've been left a farm by your family member in their will! Come plant and harvest crops, upgrade gear, and unlock other areas of the map in this farming/horde shooter game made for LD52.
