Ludum Dare 54 September 29–October 2, 2023

Limited space definition

  • 1 having a limit; restricted; confined.
  • 2 without fullness or scope; narrow.
  • 3 (of governing powers, sovereignty, etc.) restricted or checked, by or as if by a constitution, laws, or an assembly.

Limited Space

I was going to bed after the theme reveal because it's awful, but my brain didn't want to and here I go starting working on a stupid idea i got, let's hope this will be a bit fun to play

Have fun everyone and good luck

@pov's pov

Imagine working hundreds of hours into removing spammers and making the website extremely good, hosting a game jam, all while being sick. Then seeing once again that 80 percent of everyone who joins hated the theme they voted 💀

Doth in it!

May thee all have a jam of a life time! Huzzah!

"Limited Space" - Too similar to a LD 42's "Running out of space"

Thankfully, I managed to come up with an idea for this theme that's different from my (failed) idea for LD 42, which would have been a puzzle game where you have to control a robot using a keyboard whose spacebar is breaking down.

This might work

Going to bed with a pretty solid idea, tomorrow the work begins. Good luck everybody and remember to have fun.

Go home, A.I. You're drunk.

This was an A.I.'s response to my asking for images with "limited space." These are some of the most spacious homes I've ever seen.

Well, that's certainly convenient...

In my last post: "If I do participate, it’ll be with something extremely simple – like, confining myself to a single screen. Pong levels of simple."

After theme announcement: "Well then, universe, I see you're conspiring to make me code after all this weekend..."

brainstorming / free ideas

i don't like the theme either, but so what, i've got a lot of ideas. and i've also chosen one that i both like and can see myself actually doing, so just throwing these ideas out there. feel free to use

  • you have limited space in your stomach, but you should not disappoint the hosts who feed you
  • basically any game with inventory
  • you live in/move in to a tiny apartment and you have to fit your stuff
  • you live in a dormitory/hostel
  • you're imprisoned so all space you have is your cell
  • you give out presents in boxes and you must fit everything
  • you're a farmer and have to manage your plants in a limited space
  • you're space traveling but found out there's a barrier that confines you
  • you're space traveling but you can't navigate very well due to inertia, so as soon as you accelerate, your future space is limited to a narrow cone

if you have your own scraped ideas, feel free to share them as well ^_^

I've Reached my Limit!

I have formulated a plan! The brainstorming took me all over the place, this was pretty much the last theme I imagined to win...

I rested on an idea about a physics-based game where the player has to navigate extreme clutter that is limiting his space. Here are some boards from Excalidraw: physics-game-idea-1.png physics-game-idea-2.png physics-game-idea-3.png

Also grabbed the "Steam Lords" palette from Lospec steam-lords-32x.png

I hope y'all are enjoying the brainstorm!! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with, too!

I'm participating!!!

The theme is pretty bad, but I've managed to come up with an interesting idea!!! Also, first time using Godot  !!!

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!

I wish you all the best! I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with! Good luck!

So maybe...

Limited space was one of the themes that i kinda ignored.. BUT after a bit of braintstorming i think i've got a neat idea. I'm sure someone else made something similar but it's worth a try. Now starting on the art and thinking about the finer mechanics and hopefully ma partner can make then the coding - we're using godot! (i have zero coding exp ._.)

My second LD!

So excited for this! Theme is interesting imo and after a good night sleep (it's 2 am...) I will start working on it!! Not sure what engine to use though since I am still a newbie in coding :"D

Oh dear...

It's "Ludum Dare 42 - Running out of Space" all over again.

Stay creative, folks!
