Since the player won't see the other side of the train, why not leave it empty

Anywho, the structure is all starting to come together now. I think tomorrow it should be a matter of creating the opening and closing cutscenes, padding out the number of characters, and writing up "epilogues" to show how your chosen characters fared in space. I'd like this to be a game that people play repeatedly, trying different characters each time, to see all their different reactions and epilogues. I'm just now sure how much I can do within the time constraints of Ludum Dare and the size constraints of PICO-8.
I also added some animation when the blocks spawn. It looks alright and it avoids the player getting stuck in it

I still need to make the enemy properly attack the player and make some nice assets. Now is the moment when Im starting to realize I may not have enough time after all :eyes:

Maybe it was a bad idea to go with an engine none of us actually know.

I just finished the first part of the pickup system and also realized I could embed a video to show the game. Enjoy!
(tentatively named) Trash Truck Hero is coming together-ish. Building some neighborhood tiles to terrorize with your trash truck driving and collecting skills... but looks like i didn't think through my tile sizes yet.

Hoping you would check out the 1 minute gameplay video (Though the gameplay is not playable) ... Good luck for your game :)

I have the concept, the characters, and a game play loop. Now all I need to do is make some art! I've never made 2D art like this before so this will be a fun challenge.
Well...most of it!
Got the collison done ( yay me! learning mini bits of godot!) The big chunks of coding are also done, Cobalt did a wonderfull job so for the rest of the evening we're resting!
Good luck everyone <3
Last time I posted I had to upload the gif to my site and link it hoping it would embed, I compressed it this time.
So yes I should absolutely be spending more time on actual mechanics and features. I have them PLANNED but I'm having a blast right now :bomb: The compression really messes this up though of course.

I present a murder mystery on stage "With a twist". If you're familiar with Pagliacci you're already probably 100% sure of where I'm going with this. Not gonna spoil anything myself yet though
Hope you guys are having as much fun as I am but making actual progress!
We have a game mechanic of drawing on paper, and the technology seems to be working well so far!

End of day 1 and what a day it has been. Perhaps our best start to a Ludum Dare yet. We have a finished MVP, a finalised game name and even a few pieces of near final artwork.
So here's Terminal Velocity so far - A bullet-hell game in a limited space terminal window.

Plan for tomorrow is to add different projectile types and behaviours, add audio and create proper health bars for the player and Boss
I have made enough progress on the case and mechanics that I am ahead of where I wanted to be. As such, I am going to take the night off and sleep!
Here is the current WIP of the game case -

Stay close to the Bullets to gain energy and points. Fill the bar to complete the level. Tomorrow: Polishing and more Levels.

Kind reminder for everyone to keep your scopes obscenely big and plan as many features as you can imagine, because the more the better, right? Don't forget to add that intro animation and multiplayer! I believe in you!

Less than I would have liked has been done, but I'm still happy. I knew that learning Godot at the same time would be a bit of a stretch - I could have gone even smaller on the scope!
Programmer's placeholder blocks, still with some random lighting it looks okay

Switching from Unity like most other people (even though Unity apologized I'm beginning to like Godot a lot so I'll probably stick with it) and I made the mistake of not practicing Godot before the jam, so I'm basically learning everything about the engine during the jam, which I couldn't manage to get around to for half the day anyway, so I'm probably not going to manage to finish this jam if I keep going at this (borderline nonexistent) pace, but at least it'll help me learn some Godot :)
I do have an idea though - a grid-based puzzle game (noticed the grid-based part seems to be pretty common as soon as I checked this website but I don't mind) where you create immovable blocks until the only empty square on the map is the one with the player in it.
Still kinda unsure how I want to visually theme it - I was thinking maybe the player is a rock golem and has to fill up empty space in a cave to become one with the rock? Or something like that?
I'm going to leave this for tonight, hope I don't get too sidetracked tomorrow and actually have something to show...
Edit: Rip I have way too much homework there is no way I'm getting anything done - it's not like I had anything done anyway :'(
