Summonion

Here is what the game looks like:

And here is some gameplay:

This is a slingshot:

And this requires no explanation:

Finally, this is me when you don't play my game:

I'm sort of happy on how it came out and spend quite some time trying to get it to feel as right as possible.
It would be really wonderful if I'd get some notes on how this could be made better

We'd like to shared some thoughts and sneak peeks to our dev process!
For someone in our team it was the 2nd Ludum Dare, while for others it was the 1st jam ever.
We already were waiting for Ludum Dare two months before it started. We participated in LD53 and made a little game called Souls Delivery (unfortunatelly, we didn't stand out that time). So I, being a GD and PM, seeked for some tips, tricks and other sorcery about jams, game design, project management (т.т) and even something useful for team members.
We had quite a big team in this jam (three 2D-artists, sound- and level- desinger in single person, GD and very talented programmer), but even there some problems can appear. Everyone needs to have a role, all of us must have a single and clear vision for the game, everything must be connected and organized well.
And for the first time we nailed it almost perfectly (even though I was a bit anxious about jam before start)! You probably won't believe me, but it's possible to do a game in team with decent organization, with little to no misunderstanding, and with no conflicts between members.
We'd like to share some images and footage of several development milestones:
1. Concepts of chreatures and monsters
His name is Pyrik. He's our favourite one.
He's a Freaking Hunter (literally, that's his name).
He's a middle-sized bad guy. Untitled. No name.
2. Magic circle

Um, that's just a test scene. Nothing to see here.
3. Auto-battler and summon animation

First auto-battler and cool summon animation!
*4. First game balance *

With some trial and error we managed to balance game to the playable state... But not on the first try 💀
For those who want to see all available creatures, but who cannot get all of them in-game: A Bestiary!
| Portrait | Name | Stats | Description |
| -------- | ---- | ----- | ----------- |
|
| Ratoroo | Low HP Low ATK Low SPD | Based, has personality of chihuahua. Will bite you without hesitation. |
|
| Pyrik | Low HP Low ATK High SPD | Very polite, curious and silly. |
|
| Emo | Low HP High ATK Low SPD | Timid guy who doesn't like violence but does like to eat berries. |
|
| Freaking Hunter | Low HP High ATK High SPD | Acts like older brother, serious and protective. |
|
| Bloomba | High HP Low ATK Low SPD | Friend-shaped |
|
| Mr. Uptight | High HP Low ATK High SPD | Tense fella, has anger issues. |
|
| Kusok | High HP High ATK Low SPD | Nobody likes him. |
|
| Just-a-dragon | High HP High ATK High SPD | Looks wise but has not a single thought behind his eyes. |
If making games has thought me something it's that every programmer secretly wants to run away to the mountains to herd sheep. This can be tricky since there's no high speed internet there so our game is the next best thing!
https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/55/deep-in-sheep

Have fun herding ;)
We made a brand new trailer for our game, Autobahn to Hell!
Come and play this hellish car chase game, where you must get to Melvorath the Demon Lord and destroy his car while dodging hords of summoned minions! Discover three unique worlds, each with its atmosphere, gameplay mechanics and original score!

Don't miss your chance to see strange and mysterious gnomes summoned by you, the player! You Are Gnome-Caller can be played here... https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/55/you-are-gnome-caller

Another stupid rookie mistake - I composed a 7 minute track for the level, but accidentally put it as the title music, and the title music ( 30 seconds? ) as the level music. :stuckouttongueclosedeyes:

Ludum Dare 55 was my first time participating in a jam, and also the first time I took on the entire visual portion of the game. A new and important experience for me! It turned out to be incredible: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/55/get-away-your-pitchforks-from-my-oak

As it often happens in the game industry, not everything that our team had planned was realized in the final version of the game. I have a lot of unfinished concepts that I would like to show to the world! Before I started development, I had no idea that time was SO limited! :flushed:
In the first moments I thought I was the problem - I had to insert sketches and artwork from other team members who were not professional artists. And I thought it was MY mistake, any flaw was a nail in the coffin of my professionalism.....

But hey! In the pursuit of "perfect" art, I forgot that my main goal is to have fun and try a new format of work for myself. While working on our game I met cool people, got support from the community and made some really cool art for the game! :hugging:
So please, friends, stop criticizing your work. I saw really many beautiful, original and fun games on this jam, and I am proud of each of you! Thank you for supporting our game and my part of working in it! :heartbeat::heartbeat::heartbeat:

since the jam ended, we've been trying our best to make a WebGL build and WE FINALLY DID IT! now you can enjoy our game without downloading, isn't it perfect
DON'T FORGET TO RATE US

Just released the brand new patch for my LD game in itch. It shouldn't be taken in considerantion for the voting, for that just play th egame from my LD page, but if you want to give it a shot, here's the link: https://romuloandahalf.itch.io/danger-zone-by-rchives
What's a Seamonner ?
Well, you'll know if you try Seamonner Survivor, our latest jam in which you play a reversed Survivors game :innocent:
Tell us what you think of it, and hope you have fun!
https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/55/seamonner-survivor

My game received 5 reviews without any comments while our team had reviewed 0 games. To me it sounds like some teams are just blindly giving random reviews in large numbers. There might even be bots included.
What do you think? And is there anything that the community could do to mitigate review spamming?
Hey there! A new little behind the scene about how we created the assets for one level of our game: God's Apprentice! We used the app Procreate on iPad to draw most of the game assets :)

God's Apprentice Game: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/55/gods-apprentice
Check out the version we ended up with here:
https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/55/school-is-hell
It can be hard to coordinate a 72-hour game jam living in distant time-zones, so we ended up with some unused art assets which we had no time to program in. I just wanted to show them off, as a treat:
Incidents at Demondeed Academy were supposed to be divided into "minor" and "major". The major ones are where the staff gets killed by imps. We wanted to telegraph these events more than just a speech balloon :speech_balloon: as they would be punished more if missed.
So, each staff member got an extra sprite leading up to their death:

We also planned to add imps that skipped class and showed up in the locker room or cafeteria even during lessons. You would be able to catch them for extra points. They would start showing up randomly, later in the week, as the students got more and more bored with school. This feature also had to be cut for time.
I'm happy with how the game turned out in the end, but next time I'll make sure every drawn pixel sees screen!
