Ludum Dare 60

Hi everyone!

This is my 4th Ludum Dare, and unfortunately, it coincides with my move, so I’ll barely have any time for the jam. Still, I’m going to give it a shot and try to create something cool, even within a tight timeframe.

Speaking of jams: a year and a half ago, I took part in Ludum Dare 57, where I made my very first finished game. Since then, I got seriously into game development and have been actively growing in this direction ever since.

Over the past year, I’ve been dedicated to developing my own multiplayer game for Steam — continuing to master Unity and diving deep into netcode mechanics. And now, after a year of work, I’ve finally launched the Steam page and am moving steadily toward release!

I’d really appreciate it if you could check it out and add it to your wishlist:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/5031320/SCREW_IT/

I just want to say a huge thank you to Ludum Dare simply for existing, and to all of you for being such an awesome community! Good luck with the jam, everyone!

I'm in...

Glad to see the website back, I was worried that might be Ludum Dare gone for good. Glad we've still got at least 5 more of these before whatever comes next.

Cleared out my weekend plans and currently getting my Playstation 1 framework updated and ready to make something homebrew this weekend. Sadly can't take Monday off so going to have to keep the scope in check. (It's nice to pretend before the comp begins I won't let scope get out of hand)

Looking forward to seeing what people make...

I'm in for LD60

Over five years — or twelve Ludum Dare — ago, I entered my last entry. It's been some time since I have had the capacity and interest in participating, but it is exciting to come back for another round!

My previous entries were built using GameMaker, so one large departure will be the switch to Godot. I don't have the same proficiency with GDScript and Godot's systems as I have had with GML and the GMS layout, but LD60 provides a great opportunity to leap out of comfort and into something new!

The other big change will be in this being my first Jam entry as opposed to the Compo. I will be working with my partner on her first gamejam ever! We've both been very excited and trying to familiarize ourselves and learn more leading up to the start!

With all of that considered, our scope and goals are fairly low and manageable. We'll be excited in achieving the best that we can (whatever it may be)~

Tools we're using

Godot, Aseprite, Audacity, BeepBox, Obsidian, and Clip Studio Paint will all definitely be part of our arsenal! Bfxr and FL Studio are maybes depending on the tone of the project we come up with.

We both view that the goals of the jam are to make something we are happy to call our own and to find self-betterment in the process of making. For those reasons, and so many more, we will not be using any AI tools or assets for our entry.

Best of luck to all of the compo entrants, and lots of fun to all of those entering the jam :yellowheart: :purpleheart:

I'm in!

Compo. Godot, GIMP, Blender, Psycle, Cakewalk, Git. The usual suspects. Human-made everything.

LD60 yay!

hello :) ; excited for the goated jam. since 4 yrs I've always wanted to join the jam, but idk what stopped me. im a teen who made games in 2021-22. then academics hit me and now I'm coming back in 2026 with ld60 being my first Ludum Dare :D

Just in time... WHEW!!

Capture.png

Finally going to try and finish a Ludum Dare this time around... it's always been a dream of mine and especially now that we are down to the last few (at least, LD as we know it) but was so glad I barely got this done and in the final stretch one of my suggestions showed up (what a coinkydink!) and of course I had some "kept theme regrets" too but good luck everyone and see you in three days!

A quick reminder to anyone who maybe doesn't know since its been a half a decade from last posting.

There is a Ludum Dare Discord where people have been connecting and sharing the LD experience in real time each event!

I'm in!

It's that time again to make something cool!

On this event, I want to go further with "self-made" so I'll bring along my homebrewn C++ & SDL3 engine I was working on for a month (+modified Tiled as level editor). Absolutely no Monday this time so I'll have to go really small scale.

Good luck everyone! Can't wait to sink time into playing amazing entries as usual!

We're In!

Been a few events since I was able to get my full team together, but we're back for this one!

Still using Godot Engine and my EctGodotUtils utility library.

Looking forward to spending the weekend jamming again!

My barebones Godot base project

Created the repo and the base project here: https://github.com/manabreak/LD60

The base project contains a logging utility, FSM base classes, and a music player that handles intro -> loop tracks. That's it.

I'm (somewhat) in

While this time I'll not in a team, I still wanted to participate half because I wanted to at least give it a shot by myself and half out of spite (for who will be between me and the people who know me more closely and I'll only be heavily implying what was it about).

My tools of choice as follows: Clip Studio Paint: Drawing LMMS and Audacity: Music and SFX Fade In: Script Writing and Story Development Twine: Game Creation tool of choice this time I was thinking of Ren'Py since it could allow me to do more point and click stuff but frankly speaking, for the scope of the jam, I'm willing to reduce my submission into being a semi interactive story. Ultimately I just wanted to make something small for myself so that I could say I finished something on my own.

Good luck to you all -🐟

Please make a web build!

I can't stress this enough: If you use an engine that makes it possible to export a web build of your game, please do so. Godot and Unity at least support this.

Most likely I'm not the only one participating with a non-windows computer and it's really frustrating to browse games to review after the event only to find out you can't even run it.

You will increase the chances of getting your game played if you make a web build!

I have made a very simple Godot template that has a github workflow that will automatically build your game and deploy it on itch.io. Feel free to use it. https://github.com/hunttis/ludum-dare-template

Cheers to everyone and have fun!

AI is evolving way too fast (in a good way?)

I'm a game designer from shanghai with about 2.5 years in the industry.

When I first started, making a game prototype meant hand-drawing everything. Back in college, I sometimes spent half a day just building a controller or a map editor. And there were so many config tables to fill in — ideas were hard to communicate, and small feature details were easy to miss.

Now? I can turn what's in my head into art references or a playable prototype almost instantly. It feels like anyone can show their imagination directly, without the technical barrier in between.

It makes me wonder — will we see a huge wave of great games in the next few years? Anyway, I just hope that someday I can design something fun — and if it makes the people playing it happy, that's enough for me. Haha Curious what you all think about this.

Wish we all have fun game-making weekend!

I'm in!

Screenshot 2026-10-14 142104.png

I'm so glad LD60 is happening :D, I'm really looking forward to jamming with you all this weekend!

Per usual, I'll be using my little game engine, Satin https://www.vidarnel.se/code.

I've picked up a few new music tools recently but I'll probably stick to my trusty OP-Z for music, it's got such a fast and immediate workflow.

I'm In!

I'm in again! I won't have much time this weekend, but I will try to make something small and polished anyway.

Why does the home page say LD60 is December 31-Jan 3rd but I’ve seen posts saying LD is this weekend?

*hacker voice* I’m in!

Making something likely on PICO-8 to keep it tiny and focused but pushing the platform of course :)

I made a simple tool for sharing how you used AI (if you did)

The community has been unanimous on one thing: disclosure of AI usage. I love this. I love the community. Therefore -> I help the community be better. I will make use of this. You too - can.

(Edit) Or if you believe "clanker" is less funny than derogative - all text in the banner is changeable:

Basic non-derogative banner shareable link

But you could go much further and state any AI uses in detail - as those differ so much for everyone! We could even learn from each other's usecases. You can even add a final quote at the footer, if you got.. some thoughts.

I'm in!

This time I might do JAM again instead of COMPO as I have enrolled into Spanish courses this autumn and the classes are on Saturday for like 5 hours, so I will have less time than usual but I will make something no matter what, even if it's a little tiny game. I can't wait to play all the games of my LD friends and other jammers and have lots of fun in all the bits of free time I am hoping to have!:))

I'm in!

As usual, I'll be doing Ludum Dare this time! This will be my 33rd time, I think.

This will be the first time planning to do the jam by myself from the start. Normally I start with compo and then if I feel like it I switch to jam to have the extra day for polish. But this time there are two reasons for jam:

  1. I have some things booked on this weekend so it kind of makes sense to do a more chill entry
  2. I think the arguments against AI coding in compo make sense to me... but I can imagine I might want to use AI for some of the more tedious coding tasks. So for now I'll shift to jam.

I've been finding coding myself to be really fun lately. I use AI so much at work that I kind of forgot! So I'm looking forward to that part.

Not sure what type of game I'll make or what tools I'll use. We'll see where the theme takes me. I might try to make something for Google Santa Tracker which I help out with at work :)

We're in

This is @Pegasys and I's 12th entry together. We started our continuous streak of 11 games in a row with LD50 so LD60 feels like a big milestone for us. Some great themes this time. Round 1 especially. Looking forward to many elephants in rooms.

We're joined once again by the great @theoconfidor as our composer and sound designer. We're excited to be joined by a new artist @heyitsbeetle, looking forward to working together and experimenting with some new art styles. We'll be going back to our 2D roots for this one.

Tech Stack:

Game Engine: Unity 6.6

Programming Language: C#

Art: Clip Paint Studio

Audio: Audacity, Unity Audio (Not the Game Engine as I first thought)

Good luck everyone and let’s make something awesome!

I'm in!

Time for the 34th Ludum Dare in a row! What have I learned from all those events and games? Probably not much  I'm not here to learn, I'm here to have fun.

This time, instead of waiting until last moments to figure out what to do with audio, I've actually asked a musician before the jam even started! So big pat on the back for daring to do that.

I'll be working in Godot and if there's any 3D modelling it will be done in Blender. Krita, Inkscape and GIMP for 2D graphics depending on what the need will be. And then Audacity to work with sound effects and dialogue. The usual stuff basically. No AI.

I'm in the mood for something text-based, light horror set around the topic of home. After having played Stories Untold, I wanted to try something inspired by that. And looking at the themes we have, I'd say there's a fair chance I will be able to shape whatever wins into that. :fingers_crossed:

My use of AI

How I Use AI as an Industrial Software Developer

For me, AI saves me a huge amount of time when it comes to finding information. There’s no longer any need to dig through official library documentation and similar resources to find what I’m looking for. I can get answers to my questions quickly.

I see AI as an experienced colleague I can discuss complex topics with, someone with a broad and in-depth knowledge of the subject. And just like with a real colleague, I can spot when it gets things wrong. Because, yes, AI makes mistakes, and in my experience, quite a lot of them.

For this game jam, I’ll use AI in the same way: to make information more accessible and help me find answers faster, but not to generate code for me to simply copy and paste.

Have a nice Jam!

I'm in!

I'm joining the JAM and I will be using AI. I see AI as a tool and it has changed programming from a chore to actually being fun again!

Now I can spend my time on being creative and actually finish something, instead of spending half of the time trying to figure out why things aren't working and then hastily putting an entry together at the end that barely works, or deciding to drop out, like has happened several times in the past.

Well, I think I'm going to give the COMPO a try!

Well, I think I'm going to give the COMPO a try!

I know it's going to be a challenging and stressful experience for me, since I'm not used to developing games under such tight deadlines. Still, I think every game developer should try participating in a COMPO at least once, because I believe it helps us develop our creativity and other skills beyond just programming.

I have a feeling this will be a very different experience for me, and I'm curious to see how it goes.

Good luck to everyone participating in the COMPO! I hope you all manage to finish your games on time.

Updated rules?

I remember reading a post about changes 1 or 2 years ago, especially concerning AI. But the rules page was last updated 5 years ago and doesn't mention AI. Were can I found the up to date rules, especially for compos?

I *THINK* I am in... but hear me out

I recently discovered that I am in the top 50 of most active participants on LD. I have been taking part since April 2013 in Ludum Dare 26 and currently sit at 30 in the most active users on - https://ldj.am/@designernap

I am also a full time game dev and in a very busy period. I have the time off to take part and recover.. but am pretty drained. So I am hoping the theme inspires something and I can fully say "Yes, I am into it!". A good friend and colleague of mine @wisstopher may also NOT be in this time around too.. which is a shame as he makes some great entries and it is fun to share and chat as we both make games.

So the intention is there, but lets see how the rest of this week goes.

Good luck everyone!

So - what are the thoughts on the final themes?

I'll start - these three actually all support the idea I have in mind. This time around I will yet again try to limit the scope.... but pretty sure I'll mess that up again. So to me ... narrow scope - finish the core gameplay loop - actually try and make decent visuals and then maaaaybe try making audio a focus point. 2026-10-15em16h11/em41.png

Uploading games is offline

Due to some issues we've encountered, uploading your games to Ludum Dare is currently offline. For LD60 you're going to need to upload your game somewhere else and add it as a download link on your game page. If you don't self host, some popular options for hosting include the following:

  • https://github.com (git)
  • https://codeberg.org (git)

So what was up with that ldjam.com downtime?

Great question!

Sometime after Ludum Dare 59, a key account with one of our partner services went dead. Any attempt to reset the password fails, and I don't have any record saying our arrangement had being terminated. Automatic notifications simply stop dead one day.

All of this went down around the same time I'd received another "no thank you" for a job I'd been interviewing for. Feeling like a broken record ( ), in an attempt to improve my mood, I decided to take a hiatus from social media (not only posting but reading, ugh). Unsure if the account trouble was a glitch, I chose to wait a few days and try again. No luck.

Getting the website working again was going to take a few days, and with no event currently running and me in a bit of a panic applying for jobs, I chose to leave it and revisit it in September.

Anyway, as you can see things are currently back up and running. Fingers crossed we don't encounter any issues this weekend. If we do, I'll post them over on our Bluesky.

https://bsky.app/profile/ludumdare.com

That's it from me. I hope you have a good weekend.

For the first time, I'm in

Hi, I'll be participating with a group of IRL people, teams haven't been made yet, we'll do them on the first day.

I'm not sure which engine are we going to use. I have RPG maker MV and I know the tiniest bit about Ren'Py and Godot. But ultimately, it'll be decided depending on the winning theme and chosen team.

My part will be mostly working on assets, anyway. I'll make drawings with Krita on my computer and some extra stuff with CS Paint on tablet, as well as Aseprite if we need pixel art. I'll be making music on Reaper, with a challenge to restrict myself to using exclusively Vital as a VST (but I'll allow using external presets).

This will be my first jam ever, this is very exciting!

Good theme

In a Dead world, you follow the cycle of the stars on a journey through endless rain, exploring ancient structures. Use old tech for navigation; combine the layers of reality to restore the flow of energy and open new connections. There are side effects: any resistance will cause mutation and eventual collapse.

Tardi-Grade

I should be cleaning the apartment and preparing to relocate in about a week.

Is there a better form of procrastination that doodling some shabby concept art?

I'm in, very first LD for me

Hello!

I'm Mugule, and I want to try the solo crazy 48h self-imposed crush this weekend. I've got everything planned: my kid is away, I've got nothing else to do, my fridge is full, and my motivation is high as an Adventure Time episode can be. I don't really know how this whole website and game jam thing works, but I'm sure I'll figure it out. I'm the organic kind of guy, no AI or anything like that. Just waiting for the theme now. !

GL everyone!

I'm in

ooh boy can I take part during a busy weekend? I'm certainly gonna try. Probably will have to enter the Jam rather than Compo if I'm very busy but we'll see.

Using: Godot, Aseprite and Bosca Ceoil

The goal this time is to actually have background music. Maybe.

Let's talk about the "Elephant in the room..."

How did it not make it into the final round?!! (I'm only half joking but i honestly thought it might've even won) Admittedly maybe it was getting a bit to meta since Ludum Dare has been in a bit of a Elephant in the room situation... [just being honest, no disrespect] but I suppose if any other theme wins I'll still put an elephant in it: EleCycle.gif

Who's with me?!! Put those elephants in your game in solidarity!!!

Hi guys

Hi everyone. My first gamejam, hope I can publish something in 72 hours

What do you think about “If the theme is bad, I won’t make the game”?

Because that’s exactly what I want to do. I believe that jams have at least two goals — a challenge and the opportunity to get a lot of feedback. And the statement “If the theme is bad, I won’t make the game” relates to the second goal — when the topic aligns with my skills and desires. What do you think?

Time to horse around

Unfortunately, my theme suggestion, "Horsing around," did not make it past the slaughter. Won't stop me though.

I am planning to participate in this jam using my custom language PonieScript and its bindings for Macroquad. The language is very rough around the edges... lots of compiler bugs, unimplemented functionality, and so on, but it is in a good enough state to make usable games. And it even supports web builds!

To show off a little, here's a video of PonieScript with my language server running, and hot reloading:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPwoilJ7SwE

Not sure how much time I will have, so I'm not planning to make anything crazy ambitious. But I'll be glad to participate again.

The last time I participated was, I feel like, before AI really got as powerful as it is now. So it's a strange time to come back. But my game will be written with my own two hooves. :horse:

The Journey of A Process Of Growth-Oriented Relationship Nurturing Journeying

seren_efreet.jpg

For me, this journey has never been about winning. It’s about having the courage to redefine what winning means for people who have already won in ways the world isn’t emotionally equipped to understand. Growing up, I was constantly told I could be anything, and honestly, the pressure of being universally supported was devastating. There were days when I didn’t even know if I could continue believing in myself at the level I deserved. But through healing, intentional growth, and several courageous acts of self-validation, I’ve learned that my greatest superpower is my ability to turn ordinary experiences into extraordinary conversations about me. I’m not here to make a game. I’m here to create a safe space for my own greatness to unfold. And if my presence inspires even one person to recognize the historical significance of my presence, then I’ve already changed the world. That’s my truth. And I’m finally ready to explore my inner relationship nurture journey.

I'm in! Let's go with Godot!

I've completed four Ludum Dare's in the past, two compo, two jams... I've attempted or intended to do many others. It's been almost 10 years since my last successful submission...

I've just done 3 weeklong jams in a couple of months, been cooking with Godot, and so hopeful to apply what I've learned, buckle down, and hit the ground running. I've set aside the time for the compo, will have a few less hours, but it's part of the plan...

Funnily enough also putting together a talk about Game Jams... anti-pattern so it's framed around how to fail, but I have learned, and I will do my best, as we all should!

Good luck everyone!

We are in!

Well, here we are, less than 24 hours away from Ludum Dare! For a while there, I was convinced this one wasn't going to happen. With the website being unreachable for so long, I'd all but given up hope of the event going ahead. And yet, here we are!

Once again, I'll be participating as part of a team, marking my 8th consecutive Ludum Dare jam (7th as part of a team)! We're one member short this time around, as our fourth teammate from last time has decided to tackle the solo Compo instead. :) @philstrahl, my dear sir, we wish you the very best of luck, and all the coffee and Kaiserschmarrn your heart desires!

Without further ado, here's our team for this jam, along with a few words from each of us:

Biz - @bizzybee - Audio Genius

So, who else is paranoid that every LD is going to be the last? Well, as always, I'm looking forward to seeing what we make this time around with whatever horrible theme we get. Lately I've been working here and there on my own game, LoveBites on itch.io, which has had a long timeline. I very much appreciate a few short term projects like this jam to break things up. I've already babbled on many times about how wonderful creative constraint is, so I'll leave it at that. — Biz

Frank Gevaerts - @frank-gevaerts - Programmer and Bug Squasher Extraordinaire

Time to get going again. I'm sure the theme will be fine! This will be my sixth jam with the team, and I haven't regretted leaving Compo yet. This last month has been a bit rough for me personally, and I'm hoping that LD60 will mark the end of that! -- Frank

BalimaarTheBassFish - @balimaarthebassfish - Programmer and Professional Bug Creator

I always look forward to these events. Not so much for the competition itself, but for the whole experience of working together to create something, and then getting to see what everyone else has come up with afterwards.

I'll admit, though, that I've struggled a bit mentally during the final 24 hours of the last couple of jams. There's something about watching the to-do list and feeling like it's barely getting any shorter, even when we're actually making good progress. I start worrying that we're not getting enough done, then the time pressure starts creeping in, which makes the to-do list feel even more daunting... and around we go again!

This time, I've come up with a few ways to remind myself that things aren't nearly as bleak as they might seem in the heat of the moment. Not least of these is learning to recognise how much I've actually contributed, acknowledging the progress we're making, and reminding myself not to panic just because the clock is ticking. -- Balimaar

Good luck to all our fellow jammers. Remember its supposed to be fun - even if the theme sucks :D

A Few Words About Impostor Syndrome and Game Jams

In the we're in post I submitted about half an hour ago ( https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/60/$433240/$434271 ), I touched briefly on my struggles in the last parts of jams. I have come up with a couple points that I think will help me and I hope will help my fellow jammers.

There's something I'd like to share with my fellow jammers, particularly those of you who, like me, sometimes struggle with feeling that you're not quite good enough.

I've been participating in Ludum Dare for 8 consecutive jams now, and despite all that experience, there's one thing that still manages to get its claws into me during the final stretch of a jam: impostor syndrome.

I'm a hobbyist programmer. I don't have a computer science degree, I don't work in software development, and pretty much everything I know has come from teaching myself, experimenting, making mistakes, and occasionally wondering why on earth something that worked five minutes ago has suddenly decided it doesn't want to anymore.

Meanwhile, I'm surrounded by people who are genuinely talented at what they do.

One of my teammates, Biz, is a college-trained audio specialist who produces amazing work with tools and knowledge I'd dearly love to have. Another, Frank, does this sort of thing for a living.

And then there's me. Professional Bug Creator. :)

Now, because we're scattered across different time zones, Ludum Dare begins at 8:30 in the morning for me, while my teammates are starting late at night with one carrying on in to the wee hours while we brainstorm. We generally agree on an idea together, then Frank heads off to bed and I spend the next twelve hours getting the initial game loop up and running.

By the time Frank returns fully rested, we've usually got something playable to work with as I will usually have implemented at least the basic gameplay loop. Then we tag team in roughly 12 hour shifts for the rest of the jam.

I've always considered that simply doing my part.

But I was talking to a friend who works in psychology about how I sometimes struggle during game jams, especially in those final 24 hours when the deadline is looming and the to-do list seems determined to grow faster than we can shrink it.

They offered me a perspective I'd never really considered.

At the beginning of a jam, being a generalist is an enormous advantage. There's a hundred different things that need doing, and having someone who can jump between them and get things moving is incredibly valuable.

But towards the end, that same strength can become a burden.

Because you understand a little bit of everything, you can see everything that's still unfinished.

And because you've spent the whole jam jumping in wherever you're needed, it's easy to start feeling that everything left undone is somehow your responsibility.

That really struck a chord with me.

I realised that, somewhere along the way, I'd started measuring my contribution not by what I'd accomplished, but by everything I hadn't managed to finish.

Suddenly, twelve hours spent building a playable foundation didn't seem particularly impressive because there were still bugs to fix, features to implement, and things that needed polishing.

And when you're tired, watching the clock, and comparing yourself to teammates who are professionals in their respective fields, that little voice starts whispering that perhaps you're the weak link.

But here's what I'm trying to remind myself of this time around.

You don't have to be the best programmer, artist, musician, or designer in the room to be a valuable member of a team.

You don't have to know everything.

You don't have to fix everything.

And perhaps most importantly, the things you haven't finished don't erase the things you've accomplished.

I'm still learning to put that into practice. I suspect I'll have to remind myself of it more than once during this jam, particularly when the final deadline starts creeping up on us.

But if you're reading this and you've ever felt that you're not contributing enough, that everyone around you is more talented, or that the unfinished to-do list is somehow evidence of your own inadequacy, I hope you'll remember something.

Take a moment to look at what you've actually helped create.

Not just what's left to do.

And remember that Ludum Dare isn't just about producing a finished game. It's about experimenting, learning, collaborating, occasionally breaking everything, and seeing what wonderful, ridiculous things people can create in a ridiculously short amount of time.

Your contribution matters, even when you're too exhausted to recognise it yourself.

Good luck with the jam, everyone.

And remember to have fun. That's why we're here in the first place. :)

Not sure if votes are allowed

Hi all,

One of the things I loved to follow these last days was the "exit polls" - I'm unsure if they are not allowed. If they are - I'll remove the post.

It's just for fun... since the polls to my knowledge have never shown the correct winner

To everyone participating... GLHF

Update: To avoid the obvious AI skepticism I fired up the HUION and made a 3 minute sketch instead

*hacker voice* I'm in!

Likely making something for LD60 in Pico-8, to keep the compo tools tight and finishing something more than likely :)

I’m in!

Very excited to participate in my 17th Ludum Dare! This time, I’m going to be doing it from a campground, which will either be a total disaster (bad internet?) or a delightful boon (forest-y inspiration?!). Either way I’m looking forward to spending a weekend in nature, sitting by the fire, staring at my laptop screen!

Woohoo!

this is my second LD jam and i’ll be compoing again! last compo i was not prepared and it too 2 weeks to recover from the hyper focus binge but calm, balance, and focus will be my mantra this time around (we’ll see how i do with the calm or balance 😅)

I'm in!

Forgot to post and confirm, but I will indeed be taking part in Ludum Dare 60. My last couple of entries were severely rushed due to my ADHD, so I've made sure to take Monday off (and the rest of next week, in fact), and will be aiming for the Jam instead of the Compo this time round. That should make for a more relaxed experience and, hopefully, a better final product. The fact it starts at 11pm will also be helpful because I can check the theme and start coming up with ideas before I go to sleep.

As ever, I'll be using TIC-80 to develop my entry. Good luck all!

I'm in!

Super stoked for my 14th Ludum Dare! I'm going to try to focus on art and music more this jam than I have in the past, possibly going for my first hand-drawn entry (with a bit of nervousness about that).

For the first time since I joined in 2018, I will NOT be using Unity. Excited to get outside my comfort zone and not have my process be dictated by old habits and workflows as much this time around.

Instead of Unity I'll be using a custom game engine based on Phaser, Photoshop + Aseprite for art, and Ableton for music and audio.

Super excited to be here as always. Cheers to a fantastic LD60 everyone! :champagne_glass:

Enjoy the Ride!

Super excited to be participating in LD again! I think especially because we know it will be ending, I'm really appreciating these final opportunities to participate. LD 50 was my first Compo, and this will be my 5th overall (with a regular Jam entry in there as well).

What I love about the Compo is that it's always been a great measuring stick for me to see how much my skills have progressed. The games I make, and the quality of the final product has steadily increased, year over year. I'm excited for whatever I'm going to make this jam, and I can't wait to see how it lands and the feedback I get on it.

Game Jams are stressful and hectic. It's basically a signing up for a weekend of crunch! But I'm going to make a real effort to make sure I take some time to stop, look around, and appreciate it. Because we only have 5 LDs left! So I'm going to work hard, try my best, and enjoy the ride!

Best of luck to everyone! May all your bugs turn into features!

LD 60

Planning on making another Twine text game to keep things simple, but we'll see.

Good luck everyone!

I'm in (probably)

I'm not a big fan of one word themes, but if I can think of a good game concept I'll join.

Last LD I participated was LD54 with the theme "Limited Space" and managed to get a place on the podium for the first time!!!

check it out https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/54/mr-adbar!

If I join LD60 combo, I will be using

Construct 2

Aseprite

Audacity

Bfxr

Good luck everyone!!!

1st time

The dead world theme sounds the most interesting to me. Excited to give this a try!

1st try

The dead world theme sounds the most interesting to me. Excited to give this a try!

I'm participating

It has been a long while since I took part in Ludum Dare. But it is a great motivation to work on my own framework and try make something with it. (And also to prepare for Retro Game Jam that is on the next weekend.)

In addition to that my tools are Reaper, Blockbench and LibreSprite.

Have a good time everyone!

Here we go again...

Back again for my 15th attempt at Ludum Dare. Really hoping that the tradition of being horribly sick on the October jam misses this year...

A Lightweight Unreal Engine 5 Template for Ludum Dare

I created a lightweight Unreal Engine 5 project template designed for Ludum Dare and other short game jams.

The template focuses on fast startup, good performance on weaker hardware, and a small project footprint. It removes unnecessary features and keeps the number of enabled plugins to a minimum, giving you a clean starting point for building a game.

Main features

  • Built for Unreal Engine 5.8
  • Supports Windows, Linux, and macOS
  • Forward Shading enabled
  • SMAA anti-aliasing
  • Bloom enabled
  • Motion Blur and Depth of Field disabled
  • Lightweight rendering and scalability settings
  • Minimal startup map
  • Reduced number of enabled plugins
  • Packaging helper for all supported platforms
  • Editor validation script for checking important settings

The project is available as a GitHub template, so you can create a fresh repository from it using the Use this template button.

Download or use the template on GitHub

I hope it helps other Unreal Engine developers spend less time configuring a project and more time making their Ludum Dare game.

Feedback and contributions are welcome!

I'm In

I will be joining again with my custom engine. It received many improvements this summer (now at 40k lines of code), so things should go smoother than the previous edition, where I couldn't finish on time. I'll also do the art myself, and I'm lucky to have a great musician on my side. Let's see what we achieve!

I'm in~

So I'm back as I promised!

This time I would try to bring a compo game as what I've done before, and I hope I can try some different styles. And as I promised before, I won't use any AI generated code this time 🔗.

Hope I will enjoy LD60!

Mega-Man-2-513x480.jpg

Ok, my first post was something ridiculous and sarcastic, but this morning I literally woke up with some (original) Mega Man 2-style chip tunes music in my head; and to be frank, it surprised me! I'm not really sure what to do with that, since we don't even have the theme yet. I'll probably download some NSF-style VSTs or something, but TBH chiptunes are way outside my normal wheelhouse. Uhhhhh, that's it for now, I guess.

I'm in!

Joining with @TheSheepster and @FranFry. Let's gooo :D

I'm in

Back for another go. Using Godot and Paint.net(for exciting graphics).

*** I'm in ***

This time I'll be alone! For the first time in several years of participating in Ludum Dare, I'll be trying my hand at compo!

I'm in

I'll be using Godot, Blender and Krita, or Aseprite if I decide for pixel art. If there's time left for music I'll probably use Milkytracker for that. I will not use generative AI.

Three li'l stories

I threw together some stories about quirky game ideas I had based on my voting habits.

Themes I like: Journey + Layers + Flow + Navigation + Rain

Picture this: you're the sound-engineer for the band "journey", using only a map, an umbrella and pure will-power, you navigate though a rainy city to get there in time. You have to follow the flow of vehicles to get there faster.

Themes I don't hate Stars o Resistance o Old tech o Side effects

Ok ok, due to a sudden magnetic field that EMPed the earth as a side effect from some new kind of bomb that the Land Of The Free was testing, all electricity on earth died off. The galaxy is visible to see with the naked eye for many people now. You're a young boy who found a book with instructions how to create an old-tech telescope, to see even more. However, the lizard people don't want you to see what they've been hiding for decades now. The resist...

Themes I don't like Cycle - Structures - Connections - Collapse - Combine - Mutation - Dead world

Hmm.. Ok maybe this? We found a new planet. It has been dead for millennia now. Scientists found out that the structures that used to be there, actually were living beings and mutated as needed. Inside of them, little green people with spout noses lived inside of them.

These structures did not reproduce, but they could combine to create bigger structures. They could also absorb the corpses of the green people, making their memories part of the structure itself. That way the offspring could connect with the structures and therefor the memories of their ancestors.

Sometimes the structures became too big and collapsed, taking all inhabitants with them. Because they did not reproduce, the planet died off. .... euh.... it is your job to breathe some life into this planet again, thus starting another cycle

Anyway, this is my setup. Imma head to bed soon, good luck everyone! I'll post some in-between-builds here if you're interested!

SETUP okt 2026.jpeg

My second Ludum Dare!

So, this is my second Ludum Dare!

During the last jam, my team and I didn't manage to finish everything because we're beginners)

This time, we'll try to do better!

I've almost finished reading Level Up! The Guide to Great Video Game Design by Scott Rogers, and I'm halfway through Learning C# by Developing Games with Unity, Fifth Edition by Harrison Ferrone.

Since I'm still at the beginning of my journey, I'd really appreciate it if experienced developers could share some recommendations for books worth reading!

Good luck with your games, everyone! Peace to the world, and may goodness prevail!

The Keyboard Cowboys Ride Again!

keyboardcowboys.jpg

Well I'll be, looks like LD is actually happening!

As usual, we'll be streaming our entire process and all of our shenanigans at https://www.twitch.tv/coleslawski

See you in the trenches! :pointright: :cowboy: :pointright:

Keepin' it simple?

Trying to keep things small.

Here's my little 320x200 project-template.

Template.png

I'll try to keep myself from expanding it only if truly necessary!

we are in

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xFrp3SCWtxk

every 6 months the roach stirs from its slumber, its Ludum Dare senses tingling and with them, an urge to dunk on unfinished passion projects

mostly just here to rate your games on stream, expect some bullshit for our game we have work all weekend

Starting Point

Very basic 3D renderer setup:

Screenshot 2026-10-16 200006.png

going to try and focus more on the game itself, and actually finish something!

We are back.

This is now the 3rd jam in a row for us.
Unfortunatly this there are time many obstacles in the way:
International travel and my birthday celebration.

So basicallly I can only work for 48h and Silky can only do the last 12h.

But we will still find a way:
Design a simple game, do all the art and level design up front and then complete it on the last day.
It's a gamble, but hopefully we will finish with something.

A personal goal is for me to stream as much as possible on day 1 and 3(EU Time).
I even updated my handmade Vtuber avatar for this jam.

Build3 Screenshot 2026.10.16 - 19.59.42.40.png

See you in the Jam and good luck!!!

I'm in (hopefully)

I'll be using Godot, Blender, Krita and Aseprite depending on the theme. Maybe Milkytracker for music if I have time for that. Now just hoping for my account to be approved.

I will not use generative AI.

Our first very time on Ludum Dare

Hi! We're very begginers in game development and want to actually try ourselves in Ludum. I hope we will manage to create at least working build and get some feedback on it.

What we will use? - Java - libGDX - LDtk

Good luck to everyone!

Golden Hour of Game Jams

Hey all! I might sound a little negative, but I don't mean it like this. Not gonna lie, gamedev is about to experience a great change with AI and all, I assume this will also shake (or already shook) the Game Jams as they are today. So, let's enjoy the culture while it's still here.

Let's enjoy the golden hour of game jams, but after we will have the starry night of game jams! fe526877-32bc-4d5b-b7f1-a79288ccae11_text.gif

Just an observation

Refreshing this page, does NOT make the countdown timer go any faster. 🤔
