Ludum Dare 60

WIP - Old Tech - Morse Code?

Been exploring down the path of Morse Code as the old technology. It wasn't my original line which was going to involve QBASIC (my first programming language)... 😅

LD60-MorseCode.png

(Using C# and Godot via 2dog)

Still figuring out what I want the name to be...

Been playing too much with fonts and trying to figure out the aesthetic I want for the game, but finally dug into some coding and have an audio manager setup... I played a test audio file. I need to get it a bit more established to handle outputting the morse code bits, but I have some dots and dashes generated via BFXR.

I had tested my web export before, but I should do that again quick now that I have a sound to play, see if that works OK.

Need to get some food, remember breaks folks!

good progress

yayaya.gif

Very clunky but in a charming way (I think!! hehe) Dial bigger numbers to reach farther. Enchant numbers to give your attacks more effects. I think it'd be really funny if everything was one-hit-KO in this game- I think it's funnier to have no "damage number economy".

progress #0: player movement

spent most of the evening thinking about how day/night cycle, stars and seasons would work on a 2D plane

didn't leave much time for programming but I did manage to set up a simple version of player movement which is enough to convince me the game exists in some sense

Ghost in the Egg - our Old Tech Ludum Dare 60 entry!

The Typhoon Dragoon team (me [@tanjou], @pan-pan, @ricardo-menin and @fromrose) will be participating in Ludum Dare 60 this weekend!

The name of our game will be "Ghost in the Egg".

Late at night, a tiny virtual pet hatches on your tamagotchi, and it adores you. Feed it, play with it, keep it happy! Just be careful with its battery!

A short horror game about old tech from the late 90s-early 2000s and a cute little thing that will never let you go.

We have been working on it since earlier today 💪 ghost in the egg.png

I'm in!

Heya peeps! I'm in! Doing the Jam solo as per usual :p So far I've written down the idea, created some dialogue and composed a bit of 1930's smooth jazz :D

I'm going with a more horror-y route and my idea is based on getting trapped in one's dream and having to travel through decades to get back to the present moment (which includes a lot of old tech ;3)

I'm posting progress updates on my socials (@popelik.monster everywhere)

Good luck everyone <3

End night 1

Will need to cut things to finish on time I think :p .... unless! we'll see

Good morning!

I just woke up on a sunny Saturday and found out the theme. I decided to do the sensible thing yesterday and NOT wait until the midnight for the theme reveal, and instead get a good night sleep and start in the morning. :sunny:

So here we go! "Old tech" eh? I can't say I'm thrilled by this one, but that's as usual, heh. So, I'm just gonna start coming up with some ideas while I get breakfast. Good luck to everyone, enjoy the weekend, and don't forget to take care of yourself!

Initial progress!

Against any possible good judgement, I have decided to work on a platforming game and write new bindings to various Macroquad helper libraries as I go.

So, I have spent a couple hours fighting with my horrible, horrible Rust code to bind everything together. I am really feeling like I need a smarter way to handle such things, but oh well.

All that is to say I have done the very annoying: I have a Tiled map loading into my PonieScript game, and providing both graphics and physics. I have not actually designed anything meaningful in terms of gameplay so far. Oops!

I do have a concept for the game, based on an idea I had for a game a couple months ago. I am not sure I will be able to really get it to a point where it communicates the idea, when working under such time constraints and self-imposed programming environment jank, but I'll give it a try.

LD 60, I'm in!

This is already my 10th Ludum Dare!

I chose an obvious mechanic that will be common at this event. But I hope I can still add something new to it

photoem2026-10-17/em10-08-41.jpg

It's working!!!

suppressorlogo.jpg

I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to figure out a horror game idea, but I've been on a tear in blender and so far it's working!

Here's the idea so far:

You play an important role as the "Maintainer of Old Tech" for your enclave. Without Old Tech like the Suppressors' constant EM waves, your enclave would be swarmed by robotic monsters. A storm is rolling in and has damaged the outer Suppressor, it's your job to fix it before monsters claim your home!

What I've built so far: * volumetric light shaft shader * lantern model * mini flame shader for lantern * lantern animations * shotgun model * shooting mechanic * updated moleman skin * hazmat skin * goggles * suppressor model * suppressor animation * suppressor lazor shader * sculpted rough draft map * house model * table item * crystal light item * placed home and destination suppressors * placed houses for mini town * placed and customized npc questgivers * placed torch path * placed checkpoints

Tomorrow is gonna be all about monsters and sound design! Gotta make this spooktacular for Halloween!

It's OK folks - - - don't send help!

So, just spent a couple of hours working out how to turn ASCII characters into sound!

I now have code to properly play my dot and dash WAV files to hear morse code!

It was cool to record the audio loopback and then measure out to test and see that the gaps were all laid out correctly (can you work out my interval time? 😉):

LD60-MorseCodeAudio.png

I nailed it first try, woot! 😅 (I did pre-emptively catch some bugs as I was going over all of my algorithm, as you have to account for how the various gaps are handled as a special case at the end of loops...)

I think this means I can start on the actual game tomorrow... 😂 (It's just been ambiance for the Title screen and getting this audio engine working for today, but I think that's a good start. I think that was the hard part?)

Sgt. Bean reporting

When I woke up and saw the theme I naturally jumped out of bed grabbed my trusty musket and started firing, that is my style sir!

(If you get the reference I love you, if you don't you are missing out on a great series!)

For this Ludum Dare I want to seriously cut back on the development features and focus on game feel and design. The concept is very simple, you are a napoleonic area solider with your trusty musket lost in a dark forest with some very strange noises approching.

Step one was making Sgt. Bean out of basic shapes because I ain't touching blender, thats for talented people. So I installed ProBuilder and learned that making hair is really hard: HairIsHard.png

ForgotMyHair.gif

But a few iterations later Sgt. Bean is ready for his adventure in the forest! (How will I get trees? why didnt I make this an adventure in the very generic grey cubes?!, help!) SgtBean_v1.png

Ideation over, let's get to work!

Spent the last 2-3 hours writing down ideas and concepts and I think I got something I really like! I decided to go with the very first idea I came up with, cause I never made a game focused on atmosphere yet. The idea about plants and an old hand-cranked greenhouse is also cool, but is much closer to what I usually do. I wanna try something new! :muscle:

Got something, working on it. Vibing...

Had many ideas and went through each until one grabbed my imagination. I am mixing something from my past with something from a possible future. No spoilers yet but here is a WIP of the world. ScreenShot00003.png

I'm in.

It's my first game jam. I started working on this rather late. I had planned to build the game using Defold, but I ended up having to return to my familiar home base. tic.png

Got an idea — old telephone exchange

In this game we'll play as a telephone operator at a telephone exchange: receiving calls and connecting subscribers with the addresses they need.

For now, we're thinking it will be some kind of arcade game where you need to quickly orient yourself and make as few mistakes as possible. And all the addresses will have to be looked up in a phone book or memorized.

That's about it for now :)

Inspiration to everyone and a good jam! Снимок экрана 2026-10-17 132037.png

Got basic FPS controls and a Slingshot

LD60emSlingshot/emlow.gif

Took me longer than I'd like to admit to remember how to make an FPS controller  But it's working now! I have a slingshot that varies in force based on how long you hold it

Time for lunch break :meatonbone:

The core mechanic is finally working. It took a lot of time to get things rotating correctly, but it was worth it! Programming without AI is hard...

Oh never before have I used this setup: 2D sprites in a 3D world with lights and shadows. Looks so cool!

Nine hours in, and I think I'm out

Rare for me to give up on a jam, but I spent the whole day working on a game and, frankly, it's not fun at all. It would take so much work to have the slightest bit of fun in it. :slight_frown:

I'll see if I can figure something out, but chances are I have to sit this one out.

Invented a story driver!

We’ve never tackled narrative-driven games before, so traditional dialogue trees and Timeline-based cutscenes just didn't fit here. The shift at the print shop ticks on while you're actively working, and the story has to weave directly into the shift, rather than halting it. We had to build a custom driver from scratch.

A day is pure data. Events trigger organically from your workflow: a timer runs out, the front-page grid gets filled, or you slam down the final print stamp. Conditions check context parameters—like just how much we’ve already dialed up political tensions.

The driver orchestrates the whole shift. Come morning, the game saves. The shift wraps up, and the next day kicks off. But if the men in black show up for you on Day 4—even if there were supposed to be several days left—that day triggers a hard stop. It branches directly into its own unique bad ending: a custom sequence, shared credits, and back to the main menu. No further days trigger.

The scene itself is a sequence. The data layer only tracks the trigger moment (i.e., time to fire). From there, it's a top-to-bottom sequence of steps: an incident occurs, dialogue pops up, another event resolves.

This is just the high-level architecture; right now we're starting to drill down into the low-level implementation!photoem5377555769542254802/emy.jpg

a few more blocks

After a basic movements and interactions, it’s time to build the area, block by block. Capture d'écran 2026-10-17 151903.png

I’m cocked by my own game

imaыуауыge.png (Idk, it’s only been a little less than a day, but I feel like I won’t have time to create good graphics. Am I the only one who feels this way?)

Concept Idea for Game - "Memory Leak"

After much deliberation and design, some quick AI art generation of different aspects to then pull together and visualize the game concept we want to built - it looks like something that would be fun to play and maybe fit the theme. finger crossed we can build something that lives up to this concept art

Gameplay.png

Progress :)

Initially, I wanted to create a game unrelated to the jam's theme. However, for me, "old tech" is primarily associated with Windows 95. I sketched out something along those lines, and a good idea came to me.tic2.png

The Greatest creation of my life

old tech is a hard one to to come up with ideas for. as a blue coller worker the thing i thought of was my dads old tools.

I've always loved the idea of pixel mashed real life art style. I've seen it done on some jams and its always made me think WOW. so I've had a go at it and managed to make something that just makes my brain sing and had to share it

gif of hands.gif

hope everyone is having as much fun this jam

On my way!

Something different than my usual style of LD game...but going well.

Struggling

Between my ADHD, the physical fatigue I've been feeling these past few weeks, and my continuing struggles with coding a match-3 game, I haven't made anywhere near as much progress as I would have liked by this stage, even for a jam game. The code to detect matches seems to work, but the code to fix any matches when the grid is first generated doesn't. Hopefully I'm just getting the horizontal and vertical axes the wrong way round.

I'm pacing myself and taking breaks, so I'm not worried about burning myself out entirely, but I am worried about finishing in time. We'll see.

Day 1

Day 1 is over! I picked an idea that’s a bit too ambitious, and the core gameplay loop isn’t finished yet, but I’m already happy with how things are coming together.

The plan:

Day 2 — finish the gameplay loop and make the art.

Day 3 — sound, polish, and a tutorial.

Seeing so many cool games in the feed already — love it! Good luck, everyone! Гиф17.10.gif

Old Fashion Murder Mystery radio?

I'm starting this compo way too late, but me and my mom were talking about the jam and she told me about old fashion radio channels that told murder mysteries, with sound effects and all done live. Honestly thought I could try doing something similar where you are part of the crew producing the sounds and things for the radio. Hardest part is gonna be audio since, well... radio... Idk, not sure if I'll get it done for the compo or what, but thought I'd give it a try.

Any suggestions/tips? Thank y'all and good luck :D

First day's progress...

Made the obstacles advertisement billboards, added some sound and a game over condition... it's starting to feel like a game!

Overheadprojector my beloved!

Screenshot 2026-10-17 173828.png

Happy so far with my little overheadprojector, also really love what i have in mind as core game feature - i just struggle to find the right game to put it all together. At the moment it could be anything, sidescroller, topdown, fighter, simulator - nothing seems to be 'the one and only right answer' and i really want it to feel fitting and not just "look i made pacman on an OHP" - might have to give it a bit more time to think about that...

Pigeons are old tech, am I right?

While trying to come up with something unusual, I realized that nowadays, delivering information relies almost entirely on the internet. However, centuries ago, people used carrier pigeons to send messages. Now I'm designing a game based on this idea, and I hope it fits the theme.pigeon_show.png

In the process!

I have an idea for the game, brainstormed on my way to Spanish classes and finalized the idea on the way back, immediately ran to draw everything at home - hopefully I'll have time to write code as well! xD (tomorrow!!)

I am trying something a little bit different with the art this time, partly inspired by the theme too ^v^/ For now, here is the logo! I am quite happy with it :)

Making progress!

Still not sure the game loop is good, but it should be by tomorrow. Don’t forget to polish your games, folks!

I hope itch holds up over the next couple of days

First day: Code

Logbook. Day 1

Why is programming so difficult? A single comma out of place, and the screen turns green, the character won’t move, or the game won’t even open. I wonder if anything worthwhile will come of this in the end. They say the important thing is to try. Is that really true? I’ve already realized that I’m going to spend a lot of time on this phase, which means the art and sound will likely suffer.

DayLog #1

obrazem2026-10-17/em192418863.png added a working inventory system added ability to pick up items added a crosshair wich is a dot the sphere is a placeholder it will become milk eventualy

Work in progress...

Work is in full swing! You can already pick up wires, connect lines, and supply current to power them. I've also drawn sprites for the connectors, nests, different states of the bulbs, and the switch :) There's still a ton of work ahead, so we hope we'll manage to get everything we've planned done

How's your progress on the first day? ezgif-801507f74daf1cf7.gif

update #1

Almost a full day in and I can proudly say I have a blob,

img_1792260651.png

Okay, now it's starting to look like a game

ldjamemwip/em02_18.png

The height map is now on a nice grid with responsive animations and stuff. Time to start thinking about ho I ant to make the tiles less. . .ugly, and maybe I should think about making the resource sprites.

My little old-skin adventure

I'm working on a game about an old guy playing his old gaming console, and I needed to create a better hand to control because the previous one looked like this: hand_old.png

I'm not really an artist, but I managed to make this: hand.png

Details are still WIP, but what do you think?

Here we go again

It's your turn to fix the breakers, again. I wonder what old tech is inside that bunker.

bunker.png

I have spent most of the day fighting bugs and learning tools (SLADE 3 only crashed on me twice). But the game can be played and finished. It is just very short and completely silent.

Meanwhile, the game finally has a title!

photoem5377518811348672287/emw.jpg

                                              THE LAST WORD

We spent the entire day grinding non-stop. Roughly 75% of the core mechanics are already locked down, along with a major system designed specifically for branching dialogue and narrative events.

All day long, I kept coding with this lingering thought: "No way, there’s no pulling this off in time—it’s just way too much scope." The pieces just weren't quite clicking into place.

It wasn't until late this evening, when the team regrouped to sync and showcase our progress, that it finally hit me: we got an insane amount done, and we are actually well on track to hit our deadlines.

Two days left to go. The night-shift crew is taking over now, and I’ll be tagging them out first thing tomorrow morning. I’ll probably wake up to another jaw-dropping surprise seeing how much the visual presentation has evolved overnight.

By the way, tomorrow is my birthday, and it looks like I'll be celebrating it knee-deep in code!

We might even roll out the first round of playtests tomorrow. Having you guys play it would be the best birthday gift ever.

Technical difficulties

Because of course something would go wrong with my computer mid jam lol. Old tech indeed...

PS1 Homebrew Horror Adventure - Day 1

It's all placeholder art but I'm happy with day 1 progress on my little spooky deductive adventure game I'm working on for the PS1. Not the PS1 graphics style but running on actual hardware. Everything's placeholder right now as even the 3D character is not right for the period the game is set in. My main goal today was getting all the systems in place and designing the puzzle and story the game is built around.

Tomorrow I'll be replacing all the placeholder art with real art, and doing all of the writing. I won't have a huge amount of time on Monday so I'm hoping that Monday will just be final polish passes.

Day1.gif

Couldn’t sleep, so I started making art

Couldn’t fall asleep, so I started putting together some art…

The game isn’t finished, and here I am working on visuals. Huge mistake, but I’ve been awake for 20 hours, so that’s where my decision-making is at.

Good luck with Day 2, everyone, and good night to those heading to bed! Дубль2.gif
