I’m bailing out

Day 1 went brilliant but then day 2 has come and everything has gone down the @!#*er collision just stopped working, mobs are not working correctly, button rectangles are also completely off, the x and y and like flipped and mirrored everything has gone bad so i’m bailing.

Better luck next time my friend

Superconnected World

Superconnected World 01

I’m a bit late to this party, but here’s my first update.

The first few hours of this Ludum Dare were spent paring down my awesomely epic idea into something I could actually achieve over 72 hours (I may still enter the 48-hour compo, depends on whether I can add everything in that I want to).

I’m going for a simple(ish) side-scrolling shooter, with a twist. The core gameplay is pretty much there, but the twist is going to take a bit longer. You can check out my progress so far via this super-secret link to the unpublished page on Itch.io

Thank God

Finally fixed my problems with the fireball spawning and collisions.

WIP

Less than 11 hours to go, and the flash part of my game is already looking neat!

wip 2

I can do it.

Nice 😀

6 hours left, AND OH MY GOD THERE IS SO MUCH TO DO

The clock is ticking and there is still a lot of stuff I want to add to make the game as good as possible. I don’t want to go to the jam, this shit is getting finished tonight even if it sucks.

Here’s a GIF of how the game looks like right now: (but this gfycat is smoother and loads faster)

I wish I had more time to do better graphics, but even if I had more time I’m not a good artist. OH WELL. The mechanics are pretty good at least.

Salvation – Light at the end of the tunnel

I’ve now gotten the game into a state where I can start working on assets. Currently I have 10 hours and 52 minutes left. Originally I wanted to spend 24 hours on the assets but I am confident that 10 hours will be enough to cover all the buildings I have in game since I didnt add all of them.

My plan now is to make the textures / sound effects and if I have time maybe a sound track. I’ve never made music before so I’m apprehansive but I’m super proud of my game and wanna go all out.

If I finish this with enough time remaining, I plan on spending the rest of my time fixing bugs.

Not all buildings are in and I’d like to make the game more in-depth and add a Save game system but those are on the backburner. I’ll probably add those in my own time after this event.

I have to say, all the other games I’ve made in the past have been little arcade games that I didnt think were amazing, just standard match three stuff. Or avoiding obstacles stuff. This is the first game I have made that has something to it in terms of depth. It’s amazing what you can do in around 32 hours. This event really made me see what I am capable of. I love city building games/ stratagy games so I’m really happy I could churn out an idea I was playing with for a while. It feels like a weight is off my chest. 😀

My game is not the most amazing thing ever but you know you have a fun game when you lose and go “This is bullshit, I should have been fine, why did my happyness go down like that? stupid leavers!” Or when you build yourself into a corner and realise that the refugees will probably rebel before you can get enough funds from the goverment to build more living accomodations. If you can get worked up at a game you made then things are probably going pretty good 😛

-Improvement ideas-

  • Add background elements (in terms of quads) like asteriods, ships, fleets etc to make things more immersive / war torn.
  • Add a deconstruction tool so I can revert the building to an empty room object and get some money back. This will make it so I don’t build the wrong building and have no way out resulting in a lost game.
  • Add tooltips! Like seriously, loads of tooltips!

Second Day, only 10 Hours left…

As a somewhat novice game developer, HaxeFlixel was a great choice for LD. I’ve finished the main gameplay stuff. Now I just mostly need to polish and juice up the game.

Best of luck finishing on time, everyone!

Mythbusters cameo in my Ludum Dare game

Yesterday I was completely lost, my adventure game needed a good story and couple of puzzles… So I turned on the TV and the Mythbusters were on. The game story is about a rocket, and who are better in blowing stuff up than the Mythbusters!? So I decided to include them into my game:

HELP!!

After spending about an hour trying to figure out how item drops work and how i can put them in my game, i am now probably going to spend another couple of hours trying to figure out how to craft stuff. I need help so bad.progress

More poetry, this time I made my title screen into a sonnet. I am seriously getting loopy here :)

Finally able to update.

So I was at my holiday home yesterday and thismorning with only phone internet, and couldn’t write an update

Here’s My title screen menu

It’s called dead land and heres a gif of the basic idea :

Untitled-1

So the idea is that my game takes place between the world of the living and the world of the dead. You can phase between worlds at any time to solve puzzles and make mostly everyone in the valley happy. It’s basically a first person point and click adventure. I decided to go back to 3d this LD and try make a low poly style game. I think it looks quite snazzy. I’m entering the jam because I have the free time I might as well take longer to make a more polished game.

Hams from Space

A quick screenshot from the latest Team Rocket Butts production:

And try to overlook the temp graphics for the asteroids and player ship ^.^

A couple of temp graphics aside, it’s playing OK (if ridiculously easy at the moment)—try the latest build!

Art???

2014-08-24-524The process of art work is good and we trying to do it better. Our art work is not too heavy and we don’t have any serious problems.

At home to Mr & Mrs Fail.

Oookay, this game is morphing into a bad acid trip. Need more coffee… or less coffee… or something.

Progress #4

Oh boy!

Added gates and levers. Movement code doesn’t always work as intended, but I don’t have time to fix rare bugs 😉
Todo: 2 or 3 more levels, character animation, user interface. Oh boy.

CWpoetry

Poetry, check. Still need some finishing touches and play testing :)

That looks really interesting. Can’t wait to see what it is 😀

Ludum Dare is missing a motto

Something catchy like “I planned a sequel to The Last of Us but in the end I have a fucking pong”.
