Time for another update

I spent the morning and most of the afternoon creating sprite animations and tiles but the game looks a lot better now. Next will be finishing the level, creating a menu and adding sound and music. Still almost 10 hours left so I hope I can get it done.

Here is a video of my updated game:

Things are going well so far.

Started a bit late as an earlier idea seemed too far from the actual theme itself.

The game so far is a Space exploration type of game, where you must light beacons on each world, to reignite the “Spirit of the Sky”. To do this you must travel to each Planet in the Solar system and then disembark your ship in a 2D Platforming section, where you traverse obstacles to light a beacon.

Space exploration

Game mechanics are about 70% done. Don’t know if I’ll get done in time though….

Update

After scrapping my idea twice I settled on a simple mechanic.

You have two circles connected by a rod and these cricles are always held at a fixed distance by the rod.  You use WASD to move the blue circle and the Directional keys to move the green circle. If either circles touches anything in the environment it’s game over.

I. AM. DONE!

I’m finished. The game is done.

Ladies and gentlemen! I present to you: I.A.N!

My prediction

I predict what I make will be a short demo rather than a game. I though of the idea, but not of what type of game it would be. However, something is better than nothing right?

Grrrr!

Charter, our ISP, has decided that we should have intermittent internet that’s only up about 25% of the time. And that this period of flaky internet should coincide exactly with the 48 hour LD window.

Bit of an impediment when developing an online-based game that makes heavy use of an externally hosted server.

Ready to commit.

I didn’t know if I was going to make it because of possible prior engagements. I’ve managed to get enough done to have something to deliver so it’s time to make a late  “I’m in” post.

I’ve been using easlejs, jquery and html canvas. Pretty fresh to javascript and the libraries, except for a failed Ludum Dare attempt a year ago.

Been using Sublime Text 2 to edit the javascript file…

Graphics and sound have not been needed yet. If  I need anything here I’ll probably use GIMP for graphics and sfxr for any sounds.

Here’s a screenshot of what I have at this point that doesn’t really explain anything.

badimage

It is basically a sokoban game where the player and the blocks are separated from each other in two .. connected worlds.

Thanks for reading and good luck!

Milestone 5

I now have the basics of combat working. You can move to a new planet and attack the familar, which will hurt the witch.  Now I’ve really got to get cracking on AI to implement the rest of the game.  At this point I’m not feeling good about completing this.

  1. Setup fission_engine
  2. Get a basic UI started
  3. Add links between planets
  4. Add ‘familiars’ and ‘witches’
  5. Show where ‘familiars’ are
  6. Add turns
  7. Add actions that a ‘familiar’ will take
  8. Change karma and powers based on actions
  9. Show which planets a ‘witch’ is on
  10. Add simple AI
  11. Add more planets and arrange the planets better
  12. Add Defend and for* commands
  13. Add next level condition
  14. Add lose condition
  15. Add win condition
  16. Bug Fixes
  17. Planet textures

TIME TO WORK HARD

Ok about 9 hours to go only starting on audio now oh my code please help

Space!

It’s coming in a bit hot, but it should be done in time.

WorldOnAString-3

Keep it up! You’re almost there!

Finished!

I won’t have Internet access for the next ten hours, since I went on a flight to another place. I have finished my game, Control, which is about a ruler who tries to balance a whole load of stuff in the two worlds s/he rules, with intentions to conquer the universe by building a Death Star.

I spent my time on the airplane and at the airport trying to get the sound effects to work and fixing other bugs that occured while I was moving code around.

Yay! I completed my first Ludum Dare entry ever!

The game:

Den of Thieves is jammin’ for the Ludum Dare #30! The game, currently called border patroler, is about protecting the world from the northern alien invaders. You shoot them. You shoot them all. Make sure to pick up powerups such as Homing missles and the Jimmy Hendrix Experience, or you’ll lose for sure!

The game currently has 2 enemies and 7 different powerups, but we might still add more. WIP/ final game will be up near the end of the jam.
